10 SMM's and a 192-bit bus...Should end up right around GK104 (GTX770) performance, maybe a tiny bit faster. This could go either way insofar as being a new chip or a further cut-down GM204. Probably will match the R9 280x in price (i.e. $249), making it not particularly exciting in the perf/$ category.

Agree with the price and performance guess but considering you can get a 290 at that price it is going to be hard to recommend one at $249. They'll still sell like hot cakes though.

According to WCCFTech, it may also be 256bit.

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-960-gm206-maxwell/

The card will feature 4GB of GDDR5 Memory and will make use of the 256 Bit Bus interface. These specs vary from the ones quoted by Sweclockers.com which are a 128bit Bus and 2GB of GDDR5 Memory. You can take your pick on which one will make the final cut. Zauba is a rock solid source, as good as the official word.

I was going to say in between a 770 and 780 but with a 140w TDP. Would make a great efficient SLI setup if the bus width is still 256bit with 4gb of VRAM. I bet it will only have 32 ROPS.

2GB is soooo 2012.

its either 192bit + 3GB or 256bit + 4GB

2GB is not beyond NV, but 128-bit is just... no ok? Even for Nvidia, at this point.

I think it'll be 256b/4GB, just like the 970/980. Slower memory and core clock to keep it below 970 speeds, save on power usage. Price is anyone's guess.

If they made the gtx 960 at 2GB vram I'd hail them as GPU kings.
Because God knows nvidia could market it.

If this is GM204, I bet it would overclock to 1500mhz still. If they sell it at $199 or 229, it could have tremendous performance per dollar depending on specs.

My guess is we will see a GM206 based GTX960 and a GM204 based 960Ti. The 960 will pit against 280x and the 960Ti against 290. Then the lower end GM206 will be GTX 950Ti and then GM207 will be GTX 950.

Similar to Kepler line up. Then we will have Big Maxwell crash the party.

the 970 is "rated" for 145 watts so I assume this will be a 120-125 watt card. that will allow a single 6 pin and still be able to raise the power limit so overclocking.

I can't imagine paying $250 for a 2GB card in 2015. Not when Shadows of Mordor wants 3GB for high textures and Skyrim needs 3GB for mods. I guess it wouldn't be any stupider than AMD's R9 285 though. LOL the price fell pretty quick on that thing.

960 is too late to the party IMHO,I already have 3GB Sapphire 280x which I got for nearly 50% off retail price, personally waiting for R9 390 series.

Personally would never go back to 2GB or less on any GPU from AMD or Nvidia.

Agreed. If it's just a slightly better 770 then what were they waiting for to release it? A $250 card with 770 performance wouldn't stop me from spending $330 on a 970.

Based on marketting alone I doubt the card will be 4gb. Enough folks walk into to stores and buy based on VRAM that nvidia putting up a lower cost 4gb card to compete with 970/980 just isn't going to happen IMO.

For the 960 I guess 192bit 3gb and 280x speed for $219 and a Ti version with boosted clocks at $249-$269 that will be ~10% slower than R9 290 (290 ref at 925/1250 clocks). Power use 120w-130w. Single 6pin.

For nVidia they'll have to keep the 970 as the much more attractive option IMO. The 960 could be a slow poke by comparison, but I'd guess at least it will be crippled for anything higher than 1440p.

My bad, I thought it was 165w but maybe I was thinking the 980. I have them in SLI and at stock its about 80w more than a single R9 290. Not too shabby.

Nvidia has some really stiff competition from AMD at that price range. I mean $250 for 770 performance when someone can get an R9 290 for a similar price that just crushes a 770? I know Nvidia has a great brand name and all, but the 290's were selling like crazy. If they come with something weak like 770 performance I hope they get slaughtered by AMD in the midlevel market.

I hope it's like this:

960 - GM206 1280 CC, 3GB 192bit 48 ROP @ $219
960 Ti - GM204/6 1536 CC, 4GB, 256bit 64 ROP @ $259

Effectively the GTX 970M & 980M albeit using the GM206 for the 960. They could then use 1024/896 CC for 950 Ti & 896/768 CC for the 950 keeping it above the 750 Ti in performance.

there is zero chance of a 960 having 1536 cores when the 970 has 1664.

At least at Newegg, The 290 is back up to $280 and the 290X is around the 970's price. It won't be 1536 cores, that'd be too close to the 970.

I'd be surprised if the 290 doesn't drop back down to the prices it was selling for in early to mid November. The GTX 970's are getting hard to find again, which tells me people aren't buying the 290's at the higher prices. A few weeks ago the 970's all seemed to be in stock at newegg. At $300 before rebate right now the Sapphire Tri X R9 290 is way too close to the 970, but I'd be surprised if it stays there.

my guess would be something like a 970M, GM204 with only 1280 cuda cores, 192 bit memory,
