Local Microcenter shows one 980 in stock... On the extremely slim chance that it shows in stock tomorrow, I want to grab one. Been rocking some 670's since launch.

Since upgrading to a 1440p monitor my 670 has been hard at work.. Mostly need something to hold me over until the so called "Big Maxwell" launches, but I can't decide between 980 and 970! Hopefully this thread can help me decide when you guys get your cards and start posting!

A single 980 would be a decent trade for two 670's I think. Less noise and heat and basically same performance. Maybe sell the 670's for $150 each or something like that.

Same here. Plus, I am pushing about 35% more than a standard 2560x1440 display. Need more VRAM!

Keep an eye on Unigine and let us know if NV has fixed the artifact problem.

I know it was fixed in the 340.72 drivers.

I have the 980s installed now. Ran a brief Kill-A-Watt test with the Titans using 3DMark Firestrike before removing them. I'll post the Titan vs 980 power results after a little testing.

Newegg is sold out of everything except the short PCB Zotac 970.

I've got two MSI Gaming 970's on the way. This 770 2GB was not cutting it for 1600p.

4-Way Titans in Fire Strike Extreme

4-Way 980s in Fire Strike Extreme

Default driver settings. MSI Afterburner was set to max power and temp usage in both cases.

Just ran a few loops of Unigine Heaven at max settings. I have the EVGA Superclocked 980s. With max power and temps set in MSI Afterburner all 4 cards initially boosted to 1367MHz and then stayed at 1354MHz after a couple of minutes. These are out of the box clock speeds. Pretty impressive.

Nice, local store has a couple in of these in stock, guess will pick one up tomorrow!

:biggrin:AdamK47, I was spot on with @240W difference! Intrinsically, how do the 4 GTX980SCs "feel" in comparison to the Titans?

You were spot on with the estimate. The 980s don't feel any different than the Titans. They run cooler and use less power. That's a bonus. Plus I'm crazy and I love overkill.

Adam,

how are the noise levels like on the 980's? I never owned a GTX with the stock titan style cooler, but I always wondered how it performed noise wise.

AdamK47, those benchmarks are incredible. Are you using multiple monitors?

I can't really quantify the noise levels. I will say that the fans on the cards don't speed up nearly as fast as they do on the Titans. They remain much quieter when running at 95+% load for several minutes.

Post 'em if you got 'em! This thread is to share owner experiences with the new 970 and 980 cards. Overlocking, benchmarking, cooling, etc.

It's going to be hard getting through the day at work.

I'm jelly. From what I heard, the gtx 980 really shines once overclocked. But, atlas, here I am, still stuck with my gtx 780 ti.

Pretty tempted to jump on one of these, since the PCB layout is close enough on all these reference designs for me to re-use my waterblock without much issue...

^I'm curious if the 780 WB's will fit these. Would be awesome if they do. Might replace my 7970 with a 980 down the road.
