They are not the same heatsink, but it looks like the fans are the same. The G1 heatsink has 4 heatpipes that spread out from the GPU, while the WF3 model has 2 heatpipes. Also, the G1 comes with a backplate.
I have the gtx g1 gaming 970, sweet card but a little louder than my gtx 670 windforce when fan hits 60%. Also, is the factory overclock confirmed 100% stable? I get BSOD sometimes and wondering if its the overclock? Never got this on my windforce gtx 670.

Looking to add a second 980 to my rig (i7 2600K and Asus P8Z68-V/ProGen3). Should I upgrade my CPU and MB as I don't know if my current set up will get the best use out of Dual SLI's.
**Note: I have a G-Sync monitor and have read that some people are having issues using the G-Sync feature with SLI'd GPUs. So sticking with a single may be best until they sort out the issues.**
I am currently looking at the following CPU/C.Set combo's. Just not sure how much the performance will increase between the 3.
1150/Z97
2011/Z99
2011-V3/Z99
Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.
About sums it up
Does anyone know if the non G1 that is cheaper have the same cooler as the G1?I wouldn't cheap out on purposely for a non G1 but i wouldn't know if when the time comes to buy if there would be stock and if not would i be missing much of anything with the non G1 over the G1 outside of the overclock?
I would maybe wait a good while for stock to return but the suspense would just about kill me into making a second possible alternative choice lol.
I'm in a similar boat. I've still got an i7-2600k on the 1155 socket. I have a GTX 780 ti. I'd like to get a 980, but I'm wondering if at this point I should be looking at replacing my processor\motherboard\memory. Then I look at benchmarks and it seems that the newest i7s aren't really that much faster than the years old ones.
I am not too worried about the CPU speed, more so the PCI-E lanes on the Mobo. My system is running the 980 fine on a single 27" 144Hz monitor, when I add another monitor(19" 60Hz) is when I see a drop in FPS.
Still concerned about the G-Sync monitor and SLI'd GPUs. If I would get more out of a 980 with a new Mobo/CPU I may just stick with one 980.
My MOBO says PCI-E 2.0, but the manual says 2.0/3.0....so I am unclear.Isn't PCI-E the same as it's been for years?

I have a very similar setup. I have a 2700k with a Asus P8Z68 Deluxe and am running two 970s. You will not have any problems with the PCI-E lanes in your current setup. You will end up running the cards at PCI-E 2.0 8x. Compared to a new CPU/Motherboard combo where you could run them at PCI-E 3.0 8x you may see around a 2%-4% difference. This is pretty insightful... http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GTX_980_PCI-Express_Scaling/21.html

Anyone got the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 OC ( ZT-90101-10P ) ?
Well, I finally took the 'final plunge' with the 970/980. I game at 1600P so DAI was bringing my 780Ti to it's knees. I initially got a G1 980 which regularly crashed so I exchanged it for another one. .
its not the card its the drivers...
Lately Nvidia makes me want to pull my hair out in there driver development team.
:hmm:
Well, I think it's probably the card. I have had a card crash numerous times until I replaced it and it was all good afterwards. Also there are many people who run 970/980 cards with no problems related to the driver myself included. It could be anything though, but I've found hardware to be the first source of problems for me.
I have been seeing quite a few of these"nvidia gives no f***s about kepler" anymore comments. Is there even any truth to these comments or performance so damn good on Maxwell that it just looks this way?
I never seen these claims with fermi to kepler or G80 to G92/G200 at all.
