The MSI 970 Card will not drop temps even with 3 SP120 High Performance fans blowing air directly on it. It runs cool enough though, never had an issue with cooling.

I have a temperature probe hooked up next to the GPU die that signals the fans in the front of my case on whether to even and past that what RPM. I had it matched to the auto off function of the MSI fans on that card; reference is a bit different however.

Won't drop temps? Is there a problem with the temp it's running?

I think I finally have my cards (Gigabyte G1 970s) dialed in where I want them 24/7. Even with the great cooling of the G1 cards keeping the temps where I wanted them in SLI proved challenging. My corsair 650D is a great case, but does not have a ton of air movement. The cards are stable and the temps are acceptable. Granted I did have to create a custom bios to get them just right for me. I have them undervolted to 1.150v with a core speed of 1519MHz and the memory at 7400MHz. You've got to love cards that you can undervolt by .1v and still overclock past 1500MHz. They have proven stable through multiple games, Firestrike, and over an hour of Valley and Heaven. The max temps were 76c for the top card and 67c for the bottom card.

Did enough homework this week,MSI Gaming 970 simply is better in about all aspects over Asus Strix.G1 is awesome, not as quiet as the MSI but the best for overclocking. My head was spinning as i want to make the perfect choice.

Decided the MSI Gaming 970 is my best option, quiet gaming with moderate overclocking is what i aim for.No record breaking clocks but getting to a guarantee point would be nice, then see where it goes from there.

I do have a question, there's a MSI Gaming LE which is $10 cheaper, clocks are lower then the non LE but i figured if its a identical card it should overclock all the same right? Or is this one binned? No information on google, just the articles dating prior to release.

I don't know if they are binned, I imagine so though. I'd just get the normal one as it's the one reviews are based on and I can vouch for them.

Yeah reviews and videos and everything look great, been on nearly every review multiple times along with the clips off Youtube and i can't see anything horrible about it.

Not sure what these do exactly as far as overclocking yet. From what i have seen in about every review 140+ core and 200 memory is pretty consistent.Good place to start you think?

Got a week before i buy, perhaps i could leaf the many pages on here and get some ideas.

I tried to find a difference between the cards, seems the only thing is the clockspeeds. Heatsink/fan looks the same, PCB looks the same, same PCI-E power requirements, same TDP, same outputs.

You'll be upgrading in a couple years anyway if you're a gamer so don't spin your head over it too much, all of the cards are not far off from each other 2 years down the line.

Usually in pass Nvidia generations before i got my Zotac 770,i would always go Evga and before that BFG.With Evga really not all that fantastic this time around, the whole MSI/Gigabyte/Asus thing is new to me.

All just look great.

I don't know what others are saying, but the GTX 960 is a GREAT card!

It made me get myself a Gigabyte G1 GTX 970, lol!

That being said, do the owners of the G1 have any quick tips for me? Do I have to do any BIOS updates, tweaks or anything, or is it ready to go out of the box (it hasn't arrived yet)?

I was considering SLI, but I thought it would be overkill, plus I don't want to spend all my 2015 budget in one go. Better save some money for the 380/390.

Games have become very multithreaded lately, not enough cpu cycles left to spare on two gpus.

Yeah, that's reasonable for sure.

EVGA is certainly backpedaling now to gain their marketshare again. ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte made some stellar cards on launch day and I would love to get my hands on a Strix 970 right now.

Just ordered a Asus Strix 970 off Newegg,if it ships out of Memphis as usual it will be here Monday for certain.

Much as the MSI Gaming/G1 is great for overclocking,i think for me as a novice overclocker this card will work equally as well.Single 8 pin means less mess, backplate makes this thing look great and overclocks while not record breaking will work just fine for me.

I ended up running stock on my 770,i may very well run that on this 970 and if so,this card suits me absolutely perfect. Will see what happens.

Yeah i love Asus motherboards so i figured giving Asus a try with this gpu was really the right choice.Already played around with Msi with a 7850 and the G1 is just to much 970 for me.

Almost jumped on a Evga SSC as Evga has been good to me but for god who knows what reason their 6+8 pin plug location ruined that quicker then anything.Would be damn near touching my case doors 120mm...that and price is same as MSI Gaming which doesn't seem fitting for what you get.:'(

For the love of god and everything he created,FedEx Smart post is how this card is being shipped. My experience with this method of shipping has been so slow this time about i mind as well start looking forward to Pascal in 2016 lol.

The wait is simply going to kill me. 0_O Why u hate me so much Newegg, you spoil me with 2 day top shipping from Memphis via UPS and now this? Meh!

Yeah smart post should be called slow post. It's cheap for them but the worst option for you. I despise it.

I wouldn't be so antsy about it but being used to quick shipping via UPS or simply going to Frys back in the day for a quick store pick for a new gpu, waiting a whole 5-7 days for this thing to ship is simply murder.

Haven't been so excited about a video card since the gtx295 i purchased back in 2009,everything else has been sorta pale and meh in comparison honestly in the wow factor department. So the wait as you can tell is wow.:awe:

My wife orders off Walmart.com and Walmart loves Smartpost,iv'e come to hate it cause packages land in this mystical place called South Haven,MS where i think they fall into a black hole for about 2-3 days before finally magically ending up in a whole other state out of thin air.

Yeah tell me about it. I ordered something from a knife manufacturer out of CA and it arrived in Atlanta 3 days later, next day it went to Jacksonville. Then it took 4 days to move and finally ended up in Ft. lauderdale FL which is 20min from me. It took 2 more days to be delivered. The handoff from fedex to the post office takes a long time and since you are essentially paying fedex and not the post office, the post office will sit on packages sometimes.

I hate Smart Post. I made Amazon refund me when I ordered something with Prime shipping and got something not in time, and told them if given a preference, do not ever ship FedEx Smart Post or UPS Sure Post to me again or I will cancel Prime.

They "noted my account".

That is one hell of a mess right there. My package information was sent to FedEx where its located in Indianapolis, IN.Hopefully i will get it before the 3rd.I'm in Arkansas so it shouldn't honestly be even 4 days.

Battlefield Hardline open beta starts the 3rd,hoping its here by then or i'll be a sad panda.:'( 770 will suffice still i guess.

Lol Amazon is great I once paid for two day and it shipped at 2AM on a Tuesday morning. I got it Wednesday at 8:00pm. Which should have been one day I thought.
