yup im fairly sure because even he 780GTX required 2 different blocks.
One for the original, and the other for the Ti... which then it was near exact the same card.

Also if it was a perfect match fit, im fairly sure eK would sell the same block with the added compatibility saying 780 / 980.
Instead the 980 has its own block.

Its like the 7800GT block.... the 8800GT was esentially the same card, yet there was slight difference in height of mosfets or a added mosfet which made the block invalid in mounting.

As far as fitting the mounts it does seem the 780 blocks would work, that being said the VRAM covers a larger area/there's more on the 980 than the 780 so the cooling would be a tad weird...

In any case I'm excited to see what the mass OCing average turns out to be on the Maxwell cards, personally going to wait for the big Maxwell cards to come out before really upgrading (or picking up a really cheap 780 to SLI maybe). I really do need to get around to playing with the unlocked BIOS stuff around for my card and see how hard I can push this thing.

Got mine on Saturday.... upgrade from 7970 and it is as good as it gets for gaming especially at the price... Batters all games and looks good to. Got the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming primarily because of the overclock out of the box and it goes with my current system. It is very quiet indeed and I can not hear it at idle and barley hear it when it is running BF... Good job from Nvidia and I am sure that AMD will hit back with a good card soon.

Will SLI if and when needed...

^ That is one clean looking setup.

Thanks Tweak155... I'm a noob at this but it's all down to the Corsair Air 540 case. Makes keeping things in the case extremely easy and tidy. The power supply and SSD's are in another compartment allowing the motherboard and graphics to get good airflow.

It is one ugly case from other angles now that I've googled it haha. But, that isn't as important. I always wanted to clean up my case but never took my time to do it. Need to find some good cable managers.

Got myself EVGA GTX 980 SC.

Boosts on stock to 1366 Mhz. Since no one has posted benches yet, I will start. Adam started with Firestrike, I'll continue...

These are OCed @ 1480/3954. All benches are 2560x1440. Drivers version is 344.11. CPU is 2500K @ 4.6.

Bioshock Infinite

Catzilla 1440p

Crysis 2

Metro 2033 Redux

Sleeping Dogs

Sniper Elite V2

Tomb Raider

Crysis Warhead

And one suicide run @ 1532/3900 for Metro Last Light (not Redux, regular) at 1920x1080 :

Let me know if you want specific settings these benches were ran at.

You were spot on with the estimate. The 980s don't feel any different than the Titans. They run cooler and use less power. That's a bonus. Plus I'm crazy and I love overkill.

You should get the ROG Swift, then you'll feel a difference. I know because I felt the difference just staying with Titans.

Also, if you end up selling your Titans and putting a FS thread, PM me because I might be interested in one.

Thanks for running all of these benchmarks  Looks like the card runs like a champ.

I just did a quick bench of Tomb Raider with the same settings with my GTX 780 with the stock BIOS - boosting to 1280-1293MHz/1656MHz and I got 46 FPS vs. your 58.5 FPS that's a 27% difference.

You should also submit a Valley score -

So are you guys able to enable MFAA yet with the new drivers?

If you can, would you please give some first hand "user" impressions for us.

No problem. Valley is bad on release drivers, I'm getting ~80 in Extreme HD preset. Slower than decently clocked Ti. Anyway I will submit my score in a little while.

^^Giggity.

Does anyone know of blower style 970s that are set to be released (other than the crappy looking EVGA and PNY cards)?

Post 'em if you got 'em! This thread is to share owner experiences with the new 970 and 980 cards. Overlocking, benchmarking, cooling, etc.

It's going to be hard getting through the day at work.

Sweet!

When did you switch to X99?

What did you do w/ the AE11 and the 8x SSD array?

I'm waiting a bit before jumping on the X99 ship.

These 980s seem to clock like monsters!

Got any pics of your actual setup?

Just did a review of the ASUS RoG Swift (PG278Q) in Surround: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS3HkteaPjI&list=UU0mS1fU2DlsKTPBtxyTiQag

*I mention GTX-980 in the video!

Switched to X99 / Haswell-E on the very day of release, Aug. 29th.

Sold the 4960X, AE11, DDR3, and all 8 SSDs.

Just snapped this shot of the 980s installed.

This is the system pre-980s.

Only 60Hz? I thought it was a 120Hz screen.

Also time to update your sig. :awe:

Nah, there are no 120 Hz 4K panels yet. The 120 Hz isn't "true" 120 Hz, it's just 60 Hz + motion interpolation.

Just played Metro Redux for a bit at 4K, runs very well. Cards are extremely quiet too I barely hear them at full load.
