What happened?:$

Running great here, what happened?

Random monitor disconnects on the DP monitors. (common issue)
Video driver will randomly restart causing whatever game im playing to go black and not refresh.

Monitors on DP port will flicker on and off, and then disconnect.

Tested system to see if it was unstable... and nope... my system is rock solid.
Rolled back driver to 344.11, and it fixes the disconnects as well as the restarting of driver.

Generally, the restarting of the display driver is caused by overclocks. Not just of the video cards. Memory and CPU instability can cause this. I've been lucky. Played through several games and haven't had it happen. My overclocks are conservative though.

CPU @ 4GHz, Memory @ 2666 with tighter timings, and the four GTX 980s @ ~1400/7250

Was it introduced in 344.64, or is it there in 344.48, too?
(I don't have full-size DP or HDMI ICs spare, just mini/micro adapting ones, so went back to an old monitor until a couple get here).

it was introduced in 344.48 but it wasnt as bad as 344.68

meaning i saw it less in the 344.48 where it was non existent in the 344.11/344.20

Went on forums to file the bug report and also saw its not just me with that disconnect issues.

And yes Adam, the first thing i do when i see problems like that is test my system.
I ran stability tests for 12 hours before going back to 344.11

On 344.11 i don't had any problems nor am i seeing any issues.

I'm getting this as well, but it usually manifests itself as driver crash/BSOD on wake from sleep.

Just got my PNY GTX 980 today. Not experiencing any of the issues the other users are having.

Currently running dual monitors (Asus VG248QE's) with one connected via DVI and the other Diplayport.

Driver verision: 344.65 on Windows 8.1 Pro

Rolling back to 344.11, while I wait on a DP/DP cable...

Also, stuffed inside my case, closed, at 4-5 feet away, with v-sync*, there's barely any electronics noise coming out of my new GTX 970; little enough that I doubt anyone that can hear their case fans on a regular basis would be able to hear if they tried, and little enough that my headphones totally block all of it.

* haven't touched the rate limiter, for those triple buffering cases.

The one thing I don't like about the control panel is that it takes several seconds to load the list of installed games under program settings. I have "show only programs installed on this computer" checked.

Lets hope so for everyone's sake. On a side note, I think I am going to be sensible and leave it as boosting 1410 core using default volts and 7600 memory.
Temps stay nice and cool around 65-70 and I cannot hear fan.
Its a pleasure compared to my old card.

XiandreX what rev did you get it will be on the sticker on the outside of the box it came in.... on the same note Cerb dont they list it on the box anywere?

Has anyone been able to get BioShock 1 (not infiinite) to work with DSR? As an older game on a newer system it has always been touchy for me -- requiring me to disable my creative card, switching to onboard sound AND running in compat mode (either xp or w2k). Game loads fine but when I try adjust the graphics to 3840x2160 it no worky. FWIW Bioshock Infinite is amazingly better with 4k DSR on a 1080p/60Hz panel -- much, much, much better, but can't seem to try out the original with improved gfx.

just tried and it works perfectly fine in 4k for me. using 344.16 drivers if that matters.

The Revision is 1.0 so I guesss I did get lucky with no coil whine. No clue.
Not sure if the coil whine are from certain batches in certain countries or just a random dice roll anywhere in the world.

I know some of you will think this is stupid, but I just ordered an EVGA 970 SC to put in my wife's i3-2120 machine. Total overkill, but it was mostly free, so I figured, "why not?" Coming off of a broken HD6870, I figure it will give her a tremendous boost now, but she can carry it forward to her next build in a year or two and still be comfortable. I'm excited!

(It also will make it easier for me to get a 390X or 980Ti in a few months when she feels bad for getting m0ar fps than my machine.)

i FINALLY got it working -- seems to work just fine with my sound card enabled and all that AND 4k DSR but ONLY in Vista compatibility mode (and not vista sp 1/2/etc, just straight vista). But MY GOD does this game need a graphics overhaul, even in 4k DSR it's getting extremely long in the tooth. Turning off the 4k to just straight 1080p was even more painful.

Perhaps a re-release in 2017 for 10 yr anniversary ?? I would much prefer that over whatever stream of crap 2KGames will likely eventually do.

hmm I did not have to use compatibility mode.

running a higher res is not going to make an old game look better. all its really going to do is get rid of aliasing for the most part. that is why I just laugh when people claim how much better games look at 4k. now dont get me wrong as games with bad aliasing can certainly look tons better but other than that the graphics look basically the same of course.

It's surprising how some games age, in their graphics, given that they tend to seem similar enough when released. FEAR, for example, still looks really good. I played Anachronox a little while back, and despite being Glide era, and my needing to use a smaller resolution than my monitor to get it working right, it holds up very well.

But then I also re-played Deus Ex. Fun to play again, but even with the DX10 renderer, it looked kind of ragged.

While I won't argue that DSR@4k (on a 1080p panel) makes ALL games look MUCH better, it does make ALL games better -- sometimes slightly and oftentimes dramatically. I have so far tried DSR@4k on:

Hitman Absolution -- major improvement on jaggies on character models, your suit lapels and tie are so much cleaner and not a zig-zag nightmare. Those funny disguises you can get into like the football mascot or whatnot look much much much better and more detailed.

Bioshock Infinite -- amazing improvement, extremely noticeable even passing the girlfriend test, char models VASTLY improved over the previous mess they were, weapons have much much cleaner lines, less jaggies on floor.

Bioshock 1 -- slight improvement and does give it a cleaner, crisper look with less jaggies but nothing groundbreaking, game is really starting to show its age

Metro 2033 Redux -- could not run in full 4k but able to do DSR at a lower res (still higher than 1080p) -- noticeable improvement with cleaner lines and char models

Don't think I've tried any other games but as noted every game showed some improvement and only the oldest game had the least improvement. And don't tell me it's just improved aliasing, as in both Hitman Absolution and Bioshock Infinite the game feels like a much crisper, more detailed, higher res game. My guess is the newer the game / higher res it was to begin with the greater the improvement.

A quote from someone else using DSR@4k for Bioshock Infinite:

"Just finished playing a Bioshock: Infinite session, about two hours worth ... all the while at 3840x2160 resolution on a 1440p monitor (Samsung S27850D) (... using DSR ) ...

And, I have to say, it looked pretty freakishly good.

Comes down to it, I think the whole DSR/downsampling thing is worth it if you can keep frame rates reasonable..."

I have used it in tons of games. there is not a single game where the characters or guns look really any better to me like you are noticing. again except for aliasing its really no different to my eyes and yes I have excellent vision.

Wolfenstein has some horrible aliasing so it looks WAY better. same goes for the first Crysis as it really cleans that game up. Crysis 3 looks almost exactly the same though and at normal distance to my screen I see zero improvement. Alien Isolation looks really no better and the type of aliasing in that game remains at 4k and does not improve much if any at all which sucks because its bothersome at times. and none of those games are playable at 4k anyway without reducing the settings by a lot.

How about some screens to show the difference?

Hello all.

Which would be the better buy out of the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming and the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0?

I'm after performance out the box and quiet cooling. Both are in budget with a bit to spare.

Any reasons for your choice will be appreciated.
