Heya. I'm thinking about finally replacing my 7950 during black friday/cyber monday stuff. Looking at the Asus 980, from Amazon. I notice that on newegg it comes with a game code for like Farcry 4 and a few other titles. I don't see such an offer on Amazon.

Does the game code come with the video card, regardless of seller? Or is it just select vendors?

I purchased a GTX970 from Amazon that arrived last week. About five days later I received an email directly from Amazon with my game code. There was nothing that came with the card itself.

Just grabbed an Asus STRIX 970 (back in stock on Newegg). Someone talk me out of buying a second, quick! The only I didn't already grab one is because someone said that Dragon Age wouldn't run properly at 5760x1200 with 2x980, which means 2x970 won't cut it either, and that's what I'll be playing for the next couple of weeks. If the price falls after that I might grab another just to play around with.

Hi guys, I live in Japan and just bought the MSI GTX a 970. It comes with the Pick your path bundle but according to the Nvidia site, only The Crew and AC unity are available since Far Cray has not been released yet in Japan.

I know I have to register my card with MSI first to get the code. I am just wondering if the code are country restricted, i.e if I enter the code from MSI Japan on the U.S. Nvidia redeem site, will I get access to Far Cry 4?

Or if I register my card in the U.S. MSI site? would it hurt my warranty ?

Thanks!

what difference would it make if the game was released or not? game bundles have contained unreleased games before.

I know, right?! It seems the official reason is that the game has not been translated into Japanese yet.

I have been loving my EVGA SSC 970 so far. So much so, I decided I wanted another one...lol. SLI here I come.

Joined the GTX 970 club today. Already have a 140 MHz OC on clock and 500 MHz on memory.
Meanwhile, I have mine set to 70% power for older games (lower temps w/ no loss in performance), 100% for newer, and am annoyed that I can not undervolt the card.

why would you need to undervolt? the card will automatically lower the voltage to only what it really needs depending on the load. heck I usually voltage drop before the clocks ever do.

So that it won't go up to the maximum, so won't have to run the fans quite as fast. Is each chip separately binned for voltage at every speed, and using its own minimum operating voltage, rather than a set curve for every one of the same model?

The voltage setting is obviously maximum, but I consistently see both voltage and speed go up and down quite a lot, regardless of power limit, even with GPU usage staying in the 95-100% range (indicating to me that it's doing so by need of the load, more often than by reaching power limit, which, given that I try to have IQ settings only as high as I can keep smooth gameplay with, is just what I'd prefer).

I just upgraded from a 2 year old MSI 650 Ti to a Zotac 970. I have an old Lian Li case that's still very functional but doesn't like long video cards. The Zotac 970 is only ~8" long, shorter than the MSI 650 TI. I have had it for a few days and it's running fine with the 344.75 drivers. No coil whine so far.

I got it from NCIXUS for $319.98 shipped. They have a $10. off over $75. or a $20. NCIX gift card for over $120. purchases for new customers.

If it makes you feel any better I push for a quiet rig - this is my HTPC hooked up to my receiver and my TV in the living room (60" LED) so it has to be able to game and also go into stealth mode for the movies. The MSI card is quiet in comparison to most cards that I've heard and it actually kicks the fans off and on in games.

As far as a length of life on higher voltages and such, I go through video cards like socks.

My experience with 680/780/780ti suggests that the cards are never really very aggressive in dropping clocks. When playing older games, I can save a lot more energy by setting the power limits myself. I have a watt metre attached to my computer, and very often the card is wasting 50+ watts by sitting at higher clocks when the GPU load could be around 20-30%.

Seems to vary by game, though. I have profiles set up with MSI Afterburner so it's easy for me to switch between power limits. I don't like wasting energy pointlessly

I have the same card and it's a sweet piece of hardware except for the coil whine. Everything else is top, fan is silent and cools well, card is a beast for it's price and EVGA gave me a free backplate which is awesome.

I wanted to stepup for the FTW but it's not worth the wait and cross-shipping hassle.

Good buy TahoeDust and enjoy it!

I've read that you can kill coil whine by very slightly over volting. Anyone try this?

I heard that you can eliminate the coil whine by leaving FurMark running for a good few hours. Probably a safer first step than overvolting.

Just joined the 970 club at the weekend - was hoping for the MSI 4GD5T as it's difficult for me to justify such an expensive card already, but they only had EVGA cards or MSI Gaming (or even-more-expensive STRIXes), so I went with the MSI TwinFrozr Gaming model and prayed I wouldn't be hit by the omg-fans-what-are-you-doing problem. No problems so far! \o/ And sold the bundled software for a nice $42.

Just squeezed into my case, overhanging my SATA ports, which will make SATA diddling less comfortable in future. Replaced my trusty MSI TwinFrozr (coincidentally enough) GTX 560. Let's hope the fans last longer on the 970 than they did on the 560 - I had to rip the old ones out after they started clicking and failing after a mere two years, and strapped a 120mm fan onto the heatsink with twine instead.

Just pulled the trigger on the EVGA SC 970. I was too late to pick up the $329 model yesterday. I saw a paypal ad with $15 off on $99+ purchases so I figured why not...

I debated getting the blower model since I have a small case but decided against it in the end, there just isn't enough info on the blower models out there.

I'm aware that other 970's may perform better but the 10.3" clearance in the case limited my options.

I've been disappointed by that, too. Ninety reviews of the MSI Gaming (none of which picked up on the fan-omg-stahp issue), eighty-eight reviews of the EVGA ACXes (I think one of them picked up on the Heatpipe to Nowhere), but no blower goers.

I felt better after I ate a bar of chocolate.

This is the Achilles heel of all hardware reviews; that they don't have long or even short term use case experience. They get a cherry picked unit they plug in benchmark and run with. They have no context of any possible quirks or issues that turn up when you are using the card as a daily driver.

I will have to try that but I noticed the whine goes away slowly with time and most of the time I play with headphones so I don't hear a thing.

How likely is it that GM200 will land in the next 6 months? I have a deal right now for 2 GTX 980s for 926 and in wondering if I should bite.

I notice that you also have a Grandia GD08 case. I realize that you put the Strix in your other case, but does your Strix fit in your HTPC case? I have the same case and I was thinking the 0dB fan feature would be perfect for an HTPC/living room gaming setup. I'm just afraid that the width of the card (5.5") is more than the case can handle (5.25" on the Silverstone website).

Bought from Newegg, shipped via UPS that used USPS surepost, final drop made by Fedex

Seal on the box was cut. Posting impressions as soon as I have some.
I'm thinking Afterburner but how's the EVGA utility?

Highly unlikely, but I haven't tried it.
