The new card smell is normal. I would like my components to smell this their whole life. I really love that new part smell.
It is fine if you leave the protective plastic in place. Won't cause any issue.
There isn't a "g4." So far, no one has made a good survey of tens of thousands of these cards. You'll just have to try. I've had two MSI Gaming GTX 970s, the first had bad coil whine, the second very little (to the point that my case blocks it, and most people would have fans too loud to hear it even with an open case). Have they categorically fixed it, or is there still a fair chance of it? I have no Earthly idea. Get it from somewhere that's easy to return to, in case it does.quick question is true that msi gtx 970 gaming g4 (the one with red and black color scheme) suffers from coil whine
Ok, finally finished my new build with the eVGA 970 FTW. So far things are running well (BF4 on ultra is so nice) but have a question on temps. I'm doing no additional overclocking on the card and after playing a few 30+ min rounds it reached a max temp of 76 C according to afterburner. I assume that is in the normalish range for the card at 100% utilization?
I never heard it spin up and it looks like the fan only got into the 30% range. So far I'm liking the card, might have to push it a little. Thoughts on that temp?
The temps are fine, but I felt the stock FTW fan curve was a little on the lenient side as far as temps go. I like my temps low, so I've adjusted my fan curve to my liking. I've never seen above 65°C, yet still can't hear the fans.

How do you modify the curve? I can set it at a specific speed with afterburner, but I'm not sure about adjusting the whole curve, sounds like something I'd like to do.
Hello.
That being said, I think I will go for the G1. They say it has nice power circuits and I like my overclock. More out of a hobbie, not out of necessity.
So what do you guys and G1 owners think. Is it a good card? Any complaints so far?
Oh and is there any other model than the V1? I don't want to get a V2 model and find out that I am voltage locked...AGAIN! I got burned one time with my 7950 WF3s, don't want a second one. This time I want to have fun!
Also what about the OC? I read at guru3D that it can reach 1.5Ghz turbo with + 87Mv. Is that something common with these cards or can they go higher or lower as a more common result?
thanks
Well apart from the locking of the voltage of my 7950s, the cooler was exceptional. No regrets there.
The 970 G1 has a similar and better one I think, which is important.
Does anyone know if the non G1 that is $10 cheaper have the same cooler as the G1?I wouldn't cheap out $10 on purposely for a non G1 but i wouldn't know if when the time comes to buy if there would be stock and if not would i be missing much of anything with the non G1 over the G1 outside of the overclock?
I would maybe wait a good while for stock to return but the suspense would just about kill me into making a second possible alternative choice lol.
