Six weeks ago, I grabbed a used GTX 680 SC for only $170. Here I thought I was getting a good deal on a 680 as it would hold me over until the 9 series came out. With the 970's aggressive pricing, I may have to consider either buying another used 680 for a low price, or sell it for whatever it's worth and grab 2 970's....

I play at 1440p so the extra RAM helps

decisions, decisions!

I think 2x970 is in my future as well.

My 770 2GB isn't cutting it for my 30" Dell.

Like R9 290s for $800 for the last 6 months when 780Ti was $700?

Think about how many people will buy dual 970s if they are $330 a pop vs. skip both 970s entirely if they are $400? The drastic increase in demand and sales volume could compensate for slightly lower margins.

I think a lot of people will be looking over 970 SLI 4K performance, given 4K is starting to supplant high end 1440P in the $600+ price range.

Saw this on overclock.net: http://in.ign.com/nvidia-gtx-980/64915/review/nvidia-gtx-980-review

No idea if it's accurate but 6fps at 4K Metro Last Light doesn't seem good. Official review day is going to be fun.

If they ran fully maxed SSAA is enabled as well which would equate to 2 times whatever 4K resolution is, in that case 6 fps would make sense

It does seem like SSAA is enabled because without it on, my two 290s get around 60 FPS at 3440x1440 in that game.

No idea what Metro LL Ultra defaults to but they report Watchdogs 4K Ultra at a more reasonable, yet not great, 22fps. Even if it is poor at 4K, if priced well it will still be of interest to 1080P and 1440P users just a bit less exciting than it could be.

I may very well look at them if nothing else than for increased VRAM. Its becoming an increasingly annoying issue that VRAM is running out with SLI 680's now and performance is being hindered purely by the lack of it.

But I will seriously be looking at that high resolution performance, its something these mid range cards are often hampered in.

BTW, I saw a rumor that AMD isn't going to release/cancelled the 285X. If the 970 really is in the 320-350 range, AMD will have to cut the 290 to the price range the 285X would have been in. So it makes sense. The obvious problem is that it now wrecks the mid range market. nVidia's going to sell a bunch of 970s but not much else on the desktop.

These cards are 28nm? I'm actually surprised they are as good as they are.

If the die size really is in the 390 range, that's pretty good considering GM107 is 147 or so.

As far as pricing goes remember they are defective GTX 980's after all.

Running integrated currently

Depending on the reviews and final pricing I might pick up a GTX 970 to play around with.

The rumor of the rumor is there was never a 285x announced by AMD. It was the internet hyperbole that created it.

Except that doesn't make any sense at all. If AMD never planned to release a 285x, that is, a full Tonga, they are incompetent.

Maybe they're using full tonga for a 3xx card. They don't have to release a 285x.

I been thinking if the 970 price of 300 ish is true, I might be looking at a used PCS or Tri X 290 on e-bay used for under $200.00 in the not to distance future for CF? Or maybe as posted (RS) going 970 SLI (for G-sync/Shadow play imo) but then I think about the how I have read on the smoother game play with AMD 290 XDMA and also has 512 bit. But that is not a bad ideal to pick up a 970 (after I read some reviews first/see oc's, SLI performance/game play smoothness) after the NDA lifts to play with and then either sell the 290 or the 970 to go either CF or SLI. So this is looking like good/fun times coming I hope the 970 pricing is true.

Btw what size PS do you guys think would be needed foe 970 SLI?
