Hi guys,

Currently I'm running on a Asus P8P670Deluxe Board with a I5 2500K @4.3Ghz CPU on it.
My GPU is a GTX670 FTW and I'm thinking about selling the 670 for a 970.

But I'm worried about my board an CPU. Could they bottleneck the GTX 970?

My PSU is a Seasonic X-560 so I don't think that power consumption of the 970 would be a problem.

Thanks already.

Depends on the game. Do you have any games in particular you play a lot?
Still, I'd say go for it... CPUs hasn't improved that much, especially considering your overclock

I have the same CPU with the same OC. I have a 770. I doubt that it will bottleneck the card at all. Some games are CPU limited rather than GPU limited though. So really it really depends on what games you are playing and at what resolution. For example if you are playing CS GO, then you will see no FPS improvement from upgrading your gfx card, but a huge improvement from upgrading your CPU.

I recently bought Watch Dogs, Crysis3 and Far Cry3. They all seem to drop into the lower FPS, even with a lot off candy turned off.
Resolution is 1920 x 1080.

Some older games like Batman AC, NFS Shift1&2, GRID2... they could run smoother, I guess.

If you are getting frame drops the best course of action is to reduce your resolution to 720p and see if your framerate changes. If it increases then you are gpu limited, if it is the same, then you are cpu limited.

The 2500k is a fine cpu man. I mean really you cannot do any better anyway. Ivys and Haswell have what, 10-15% better IPC but they clock lower. A 4.3 Ghz 2500k should be enough for any game. If it's not, then it's the game's fault and you should stay away from it.

As for the question at hand, you getting a 970, sure go for it by all means.

2500k is still one of the best overclocking CPUs Intel ever made, you'll be fine and yes I've same CPU and probably going 970 route down the road .

With your current setup i'd say you're golden. The 2500K is still in the race and still do really good. Go for it and don't look back! It's a beast of a card.

I didnt notice any difference in gaming going from my 4.5ghz 2500k to my 4.6ghz 4790k. Only exceptions are Crysis 3 & BF4 cause they use hyperthreading, fps went up in crysis 3 & less stuttering in BF4. Other than that, i feel all my other games are the same (i game @ 1440p though, so im almost always gpu limited),

For video editing it's a night & day difference, but thats another thread.
