Someone who has a budget for 5960X and triple 980s should strongly consider a 4K gaming monitor. For 1080p, 5820/4790k and 970 SLI/290CF is all you need. Futureproofing with thousand dollar components is a waste of time.
RS: I'll go further and say that for most games even at 2560 x 1440, 970SLI/290CF will be plenty of Horsepower.
I respect the OP for at least asking for input. However, when I saw he lists a single 27" 100p monitor, I realized he was confused as to the power of a single GTX980.
First, the 5960X from what I read is truly a beast but for the $$$ not the best cpu for gaming unless running multiple gpus and even then the devil's Canyon may be better. I have a 3930k @ 4.6Ghz in my rig below, but honestly my 3770k @4.5 Ghz with 2 GTX670s runs just as well in most games. Perhaps triple GPUs would tilt in favor of the hexcor/octocore but at what cost?
The biggest change I have experienced is jumping from 1080p to 1440p in 2 of my 3 rigs.
Thus my comment that, in my humble opinion, running a THREE GTX980 setup should have at least a single 4k monitor to take advantage.
