Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out which 980ti I should buy to put into my NCASE M1. My dilemma is in regards to the cooling solution on the GPU. NCASE recommends a blower style card (which would mean I would need a reference card), but I was wondering if anyone tried a different cooler with better results. The blower cooler seems fine, but typically there are better solutions out there, but I'm not sure how well they would work with the NCASE M1. I am ruling out liquid cooling due to the cost.

I ruled out the Fury X due to a lack of HDMI 2.0 and a DVI connector.

Thanks,

With a case that small you are pretty much forced to go with a blower or liquid cooling.. That case is so small, and without much venting, that an open air cooler would heat it up rather fast.

Thank you both very much for the quick reply. SithSolo1, how has stability been with your PC? Any overheating at all? Also, any tips for when I finally start building this thing? Any specific components you recommend?

For the most part it has been stable and I've been happy with the build.

Issues I've run into:

Its really loud under full load but I knew it would be when I picked out the parts, I'll fix this down the road.

My msata drive died a while back. I never rma'd it but I suspect it was killed over time by heat. The back side under the cpu gets fairly toasty after gaming a while and thats where the msata was sitting with no airflow.

When buying parts/putting it together:

First and foremost take your time. Check the build threads for what fits and what doesn't, ask questions if you need help. If something doesn't seem to be fitting right while building don't force it, check spacing and make sure its not hitting something.

If you are going with an aftermarket CPU cooler check not only compatibly with the motherboard but also with the case after the motherboard is installed. With my Asrock mobo the cpu socket is high on the pcb and and some heatsinks would interfere with the top panel after installation.

Both the fans I have on the side bracket are set to intake for positive air pressure, I custom made a filter but I think the v4 case comes with a magnetic one standard now.

Also if you have any questions along the way ask in the Hardforum thread, people are usually quick to respond: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1717132

v1 Build log thread:

v2:

v3:

I'm sure a v4 build log will pop up once people start getting the cases.

How are you cooling your cpu? Reason I ask is if it is a unit such a the Corsair H100i or something a blower card would work well using the radiator to exhaust the card's heat as well. It wouldn't give the most ideal cpu temps but if you aren't going for a huge overclock they should be well within reason. Also make sure the card you choose is standard width, coolers common on Classifieds, Lightnings, Windforce, etc. which protrude beyond the pci bracket don't work.

Open cooler cards are okay as long as you dont mount extra hard drives on the side of the case. My 970 G1 dumps more heat than I would like in the case. I had hard drives mounted on the radiator side bracket and the temperatures of all components would sky rocket even with two extra fans on the bottom of the chassis.

Note that even an open air card wont be quiet in the M1. My 970 G1's fans are noticeable under load, and a 980Ti dissipates much more power. If I were to redo it, I would get something like the eVGA 980Ti Hybrid.

Thank you very much for the replies everyone. I think I'm going to try the 980ti hybrid, then just get a decent air cooler for the CPU.
