After 7 years with Nvidia i have changed sides and i have switched to 5700xt.I
have tested it vs my old GTX1080TI
Test system:
R7 3700x
MSI b450 Tomahawk
32GB ram 3750mhz cl16
Drivers:
MSI GTX1080TI GamingX-441.87
Sapphire nitro+ 5700XT-Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.1.2

Each card is tested with undervolting, stock and oc
1080TI undervolt-0.800V and real in game clock 1700/11000 and 150w power
1080TI stock-real in game clock 1924/11000
1080TI OC-real in game clock 2000-2050/12600

5700XT undervolt-1.090v and real in game clock 1950/14000 and 150-200w power
5700XT Stock-1.2V real in game clock 2000/14000(sometimes its tdp limited and undervolt is faster)
5700XT OC-1.2V real in game clock 2050/14640
First synthetic benchmarks

and again limit 3 post because i have too many graphs

Average only in games 1080TI stock is 14% faster than 5700XT stock. After both overclocked 1080TI is 18% faster.Problem with 5700xt is that it can be good in some games and it can also be 40% slower in others. Also AMD drivers are terrible.I had tons of black screens and other bugs.

I've only been using NV cards for my primary rig since 780 Ti. And I'd have to say only the 980 Ti and 1080 Ti are cards I genuinely enjoyed. Both OC's wonderfully, none required stupid RMA or pricey coolers.

The 1080 was underwhelming and the FTW3 water cooled version I had required an RMA and my 2080 Ti got space invaded which required an RMA.

At what point did you have black screens? And did you run DDU when you switched from the nVidia card to the AMD card?

I am curious as to why you switched? I am waiting for big Navi for more performance before switching cards in my main rig.

In witcher3 and borderlands3 and yes i was DDU drivers.

My last ATI/amd gpu was 5850 and wanted try them.I think navi10 is decent HW, but drivers are terrible.Forcing MSAA+TRAA supersampling dont work in old DX9 games, stuttering in some games when using anti-lag, stuttering when using custom fan curve, black screens, terrible performance in older games like crysis3(its even AMD game LOL)Rise of the tomb raider even under dx12 have terrible performance.Greedfall runs like crap too.

Ugh, 5870 was my second AMD card after the 9800XT and it was a disaster. I suffered from the grey screen of death issues and had to RMA 2 times and flash several bios versions before it finally became usable, not to mention perf profiles were jacked on the first several bios versions, it would never idle the clocks, it tried to run at full blast all the time, even sitting at a windows desktop.

The 9800XT had great performance but constant graphical glitches which were comically awful, peoples heads stretching across screen etc.

I really wish AMD was a better competitor because i hate the Nvidia tax. I REALLY want them to be successful.

In my life, the only cards that have been consistently stable are 3dfx (long live my voodoo 5500) and nvidia

For non rt games,i would suggest anyone to find a used 1080ti over anything in its price range. I am sure there is some special cases where the 5700XT would win but for most games just get the 1080ti. Used isn't for everyone but so far i haven't regretted my decision on mine.

Which ram kit did you use for your build Op? I am looking at pairing a B450 Tomahawk Max with a 3700x as well and so far stuck on what memory to use with it. I assume that memory isn't out of the box XMP ready? I heard various reports that some can't get over 3200 then others do 3600.

Weird. I have been playing Witcher 3 heavily (full maxed settings at 1080P) with a 5700XT and its been flawless, no crashes. The black screen issue seems so random as to whom it effects and doesn't.

Yeah its random and what i saw on reddit or amd support there are tons on people with black screen bug.I found more bugs-custom fan curve causing stuttering(maybe people have stuttering because of this???I use auto because of that and i dont have any stuttering at all).Radeon anti-lag causing stuttering in some games.Forcing MSAA+TRAA Supersampling in drivers in old DX9 games just dont work at all.

It is important to note that every 1080ti is different. For example, mine has an average boost in game of around 1980 MHz. Occasionally it boosts over 2 GHz, and very rarely it drops to 1900 MHz.

-While I certainly don't want to drive up prices on used cards, I've been buying used cards since my ATI 9800 and I've literally never had a bad experience.

The way I see it, the used market has weeded out those cards shipped from the factory with a defective component, and electronics tend to die (barring physical abuse) shortly after first use or never during their useful life.

Also provides the opportunity to pick up top end cards from the prior gen for a song as those users will likely be picking up the current gen's top end and just looking for a way to move the hardware and recoup their outlay. Great way to play last gen titles at top tier settings.

I got a used 1080ti ftw3 on these forums for $500 back in 2018 and I love it. I skipped the 2080 ti entirely. About the only thing that I think can get me to upgrade is maybe a 3080ti but I hope to god AMD makes a card as good or better than a 2080 ti. If they can do that, I'd buy one. Even if it can't match what Nvidia has in the works with their 3000 series. I just sorely want to use my Samsung QLED's freesync feature as I was too wary about burn in to get a C9 Oled that had Gsync.

Freesync should work now on that 1080 ti now, right? I got a freesync monitor for my 1080 ti and it works great (but it is on that supported list using DisplayPort).

I would love 2080 ti performance but at 4k60, the 1080 ti is fine for the games I play.

But I am on a 1080 ti FE. That blower cooler instantly makes an aftermarket 5700 XT an upgrade. Too lazy to upgrade cooling.
