Hey guys, I'm waiting to do a complete upgrade once the next gen nvidia cards are released but until then I'm thinking of either getting another GTX260 to SLI with the current card I have or get a GTX560.

The GTX260 would be bought second hand for around $50 while the 560 would be bought for about $150 new.

What would you guys recommend?

Sell the gtx260 and buy a gtx560 and overclock it some. It'll be a little faster than 2 gtx260's and it will run way quieter, cooler, and use less power. Plus you'll have DX11 features with the gtx560.

I'd also vote one 560 > 260 SLI. If you can afford to wait, that is what I'd suggest. I'm still quite happy with my 280. There isn't much it has a hard time with. However if you need a cheap fill in; I'd go with the "sell the 260, get a 560" advice.

If the 560 is a ti ,I vote for the 560 if not , 2 gtx260's are faster. plus you can get a used 260 for about 70$.

in games that sli works fine in there is no way a gtx560 would be faster than gtx260 sli.

that being said, I personally would not fool with gtx260 sli but I think the gtx560 ti would be the lowest upgrade I would go with.

and really the OP did not list anything else about his pc and none of you bothered to ask. the rest of specs including power supply and resolution would be helpful to know.

EDIT: damn you happy for always beating me...

If we are talking about a gtx560ti, then I beg to differ and think a gtx560ti will be faster in most cases than a pair of gtx260's. Overclock both setups - the gtx260 SLI setup and gtx560ti setup, and the gtx560ti will extend it's lead even further.

EDIT: I'm sorry. I forget the vanilla gtx560 even exists. My brain would work better if they called it gtx555 instead of just removing the TI moniker.

Well if its a gtx560ti he should pick up the Galaxy one thats 174$AR, ends today! Only then would it be worth it, and thats if he has the cpu power to push it and the correct resolution.

He states 150$ for the 560 so I gather its the vanilla card not the ti.

well the ti was not mentioned but maybe he did mean ti. even the ti version is only about 65-75% faster than a gtx260 so gtx260 sli would match or beat it in a game with good scaling. and a gtx260 or gtx560 Ti both have about 20% overclocking headroom so no real advantage there either for the gtx560 ti.

again though the gtx260 sli setup is not something I would want to deal with. I would chose even the standard gtx560 over the gtx260 sli setup any day.

Another gtx260 for 50$ vs a regular gtx560 for 150$? That 80$ more for less performance after he sells his gtx260..

I'd go with the 2 gtx260's in sli any day, even with mediocre scaling.

less power usage, less heat, less noise, less compatibility problems, more consistent performance, DX11 and more vram would make a single gtx560 the better choice for me personally.

less power usage

Get a real psu

less heat
get a real case

less noise
game with headphones on, or use speakers

less compatibility problems
This is not much of a concern as of late, mabe 2 years ago.

more consistent performance
even with poor scaling the gtx260's are faster.

are you serious?

more vram would make a single gtx560 the better choice for me personally.

Its not for you and does 110mb of ram gonna make that much difference?

allways wanted to do that.
Just breaking balls bud.

none of those excuses fly for me and in fact some of them make no sense. get what you want and I will do the same...

we don't know what PSU has the OP. He might need to buy also a PSU for SLi. Anyway a 560Ti at around 200$ is a nobrainer vs. another 260.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I think I'm gonna hold out until the BF3 beta comes out before I make any decisions and I'll see how it runs on my single 260. But I'll probably just end up getting the single 560 as I don't think I wanna bother with SLI.

Oh and I know some of you guys were asking about specs so I'll just give em to you for general info:

Core i7 920 OC'ed to 4.1GHZ
6GB ram
EVGA Classified Mobo
40GB SSD
1TB WD Caviar Black
Enermax ERV920EWT REVOLUTION85+
GTX 260

I originally built my rig a few months before fermi was being released and bought the 260 as an interim card until I could get my hands on a 400 series card. But after the release, the performance figures were a little underwhelming and I did not feel like dishing out hundreds of dollars for the 400 series cards.
The 260 has served me extremely well but, sadly, it is going to be time to upgrade soon.

New 28nm cards are coming out soon. Maybe you can use another GTX260 for SLI until those cards come out? Or maybe you can even use a single one.
