does anybody have any good intel on the SI launch date?
the gf104 only has a max of 384sp/64tmu/32rop and 256bit memory controller. without insanely high overclock from the factory there is no way they could make the gf104 to match much less be faster overall than a stock gtx480 and 5870.Judging by the architecture changes I would say whatever GTX485 etc they make out of the GF104 would beast the 5870, and 480 while remaining much much cooler and consuming a nice amount less power the the 480.
The problem is that the 485 or whatever it will be, will now be going against SI, which will beat it out I imagine.

Edit: nevermind, I agree a full gf104 with 384sp's (gtx 475) will be as fast as a 5870, but not a gtx 480. That would be suicide for Nvidia.
Why would it be? The 480s are made from the initial batch of risk wafers if you buy into rumors. If so, their stock should be just about depleted. A more buff gf104 with the cut down version in dual config for $700 (GTX495) and a full fledged 512 shader Fermi ("GTX490" or "GTX480 512") would do several things: it'd reclaim the #1 fastest card title, secure the #1 fastest single gpu title, and get a lock on the upper mainstream. ATI is once again in a position of competing on price only, with the full-bodied 460 duking it out with the 5870. The cut down ones can become the 450.
The downsides? People who read reviews won't buy any current 465 or 480 parts, and being profitable depends on TSMC's ability to manufacture on the 40nm process. Only the second part is a valid concern.
How long does it take for a respin?
The gf104 is also A1 silicon and Nvidia said yields for the 384 sp part were poor.
where did Nvidia say that 384 sp product had poor yield? Was is at that pcper article you link (I don't see it)?
it was said in at least one of the reviewspost it if you can find it. I've never even seen Nvidia mention a 384sp part, just the rumor sites.

I think he meant a dual core 384sp x2 gf104 card.
That should beat a 5970 easy.
