OP: I'm glad your happy with your card but there's no need for childish comments. I assure you I am not jealous as this 5850 plays everything I have at max settings as well and it does it at much lower power than most of what nVidia has. Like I said, if you are happy with your card knowing all the facts, that's all that's important. My goal was to educate you on exactly what your options are, after that it's up to you to make the choice.

You might want to check your math on that one, you're just a tiny bit off. Two 6870's cost MORE than one gtx480, not half as much.

neweggs current 6870 is 239.99$
neweggs current 480 is 499$ with 30$ rebate. = 479.99$ (cheapest I could find on newegg)

239x2 = 478$
479x1 = 479$

so in short... 2x 6870 cost less than 1x480.

Was compairing 6870 CF vs 480 SLI.. and had gotten things mixed up.

6870 CF is half the price of 480 SLI, for about 10&#37; less performance.

In a few weeks, they will bring down the 480s prices if nothing else.

Rumors are going that the 580 with a slight overclock (75-100mhz on GPU core) can outmatch a 6970 in a few benchmarks. Which besically means that rumors are saying the 6970 will at stock perform faster than a 580 at stock.

the 580 is going to be around 20&#37; faster than the 480, and use less power. Same with the 6970.

If you can put off 2 weeks or so, Id have waited for those cards instead of a 480. OR at the very least to see how much the 480s drop in price.

Anyway, you should try the 6990 Crossfire and it'll own.

The best GTX480 is an understatement! MSI GTX480 Lightning cracked 1400mhz overclock on the GPU. No information on power consumption figures was provided. Don't try this overclock at home. :biggrin:
