This is not gonna replace not gtx460, its going up against the 6830.
Basically with about 5830 performance with much lower power usage.

If/when they do replace the gtx460 it will/should be with a gtx560 SE version.
A revised gf104 core with higher clocks and lower power usage but faster then the 6850 but slower then the 6870.

That seems more logical.

Early rumors said the third memory controller was (still) disabled... I like this new rumor much, much more. What held the gts450 back was it's lack of ROPs. A gtx550 with 768mb ram at 900mhz core clock speed will likely beat a 5770, but still needs to be priced appropriately.

yeah people were dreaming when they inferred the 550 might challenge the 460.

The problem is that the gap between the GTS 450 and GTX 460 is just too large

Pretty sure that the Anandtech review of the GTS450 stated that there was still a memory controller disabled (with ROPS?). So getting that turned on would be good bump in performance anyway... Here's to hoping

With the current rumered specs the gtx550 should be around 5830 performance.
The gap between a gtx550 and gtx560 is just too big, expect a gtx560SE or some other card to fill it.

right, we're talking about a difference of ~ 800 million transistors, there's just no way a 550 can compete, that's not to say it will be bad, its just not going to be a miracle gaming card

I believe that a full core GF106/GF116 has 240 Cuda Cores (5x 48) and 192-bit memory controller.

With 240 cores @ 900MHz and 192-bit memory @ 4100MHz could be close to GTX460 SE.

it was said in gts450 reviews that the only thing not unlocked was the 192bit bus with its additional 8 rops.

Yes I know, I was wondering about the 35% more performance than GTS450 and it wasn’t coming from the specs (192 cores @ 900MHz).

And then we have 8 more ROPs and 192-bit memory and if we add that to the equation we could have 35% more performance than GTS450 at higher resolutions with Antialiasing filters.

So (GTX550 with 192 cores and 192-bit memory) with no filters the performance difference will be close to 10-15% but when AA filters at high resolutions are turned ON, GTX550 could be 35% faster than GTS450.

The performance number seams to be against the HD5770

1680x1024 με 4x AA with Core i7 965, x58, 6GB mem DDR3, Win7 64, και drivers 267 και Cat 11.2.

I very much doubt thats it possible. I've never seen that before.

Ah so it seems that a GTX 460 1GB is still much more powerful than this card. I'm glad that I didn't wait for this GTX 550.

Wasn't ever meant to be. You can see that this card is the replacement for GTS450, more or less.

well we have known for a while that it was going to be a revised gts450 core which means it would have no more than 192sp. so basically there was no way it would come close to a gtx460.

ok Question,

Is it possible to have 8x 64MB + 4x 128MB (1024MB) memory modules for 192-bit memory ??

or 4x 128MB + 2x 256MB

the way I understood it was you needed the same amount of memory on each channel, they could pair a 128MB chip with a 256MB chip (or do 3 x 128MB) on each of the 64 bit channels but that would net us 1152MB total, seems odd to round that amount down to 1GB for marketing

but just like the strong rumors of the 5770 having a 192bit bus right up until its release, I just don't see it happening for the 550.

its easy to assume that the 550 will have the extra ROPs and memory controller that were disabled on the 450, but its just as likely that 40nm manufacturing was mature enough at the 450's launch to go ahead and have those features enabled then, but were instead disabled for reasons such as the GPU simply being shader limited and the extra ROPs and memory bandwidth unable to provide a tangible benefit

Or to save power, the 450 already uses as much power as a 6850. So if the 550 is going to compete with the 5770 it can't end up drawing a lot more power.

yeah but the 6850 only uses a little bit more than a 5770 so its hardly a problem. I mean you are talking about splitting a difference of around 10-12 watts watts here. as you see the gts450 only uses 8 more watts than a 5770 even during furmark. http://www.anandtech.com/show/3917/...-palit-and-calibre-overclocked-and-reviewed/8
