You really think something will take the crown from 580x2? I guess we will see...
$567 shipped? Lol WTF?
nVidia is DREAMING.
Looks like the 580 has been released

Price is obscene, yes. What is MSRP of GTX 480 ?
This card should be priced with a MSRP of whatever the 480 was at prior to this release.
That said, if you want one of these, give it a couple of weeks for the 6970 to launch and the price will likely drop $100.
I thought the 69 series was delayed and may not make it before the holidays?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
That's just rumors based on other rumors. Only one source ever said it was delayed (TechEye) and everyone else just based it off their report. And since not a peep was said about this til a few days before the 580 launch, I'm more likely to believe this is a bs story
Priced to make 480 seem like a "good deal?" 480 inventory clearing strategy? Wow.
So you feel that in the face of the rumor, the 69 series will launch before the holidays? Might this be more of AMDs intentional FUD campaign?

Maybe it's a part of nvidias international FUD campaign? Thought about that?
It's possible, but this is on the retailers only. Nvidia set the MSRP at 499.00
Sorry for the multiple sticker shock posts. Not so surprising with Newegg. They'll hike a price if they can get away with it. nV/retailers would have been much better off cutting 480 to $400ish and sticking to MSRP on 580. They'll adjust if they want to sell off remaining 480s. 580 availability will be a factor.
Keys, any idea on units available?
Those prices... Even at $499 i said this was a mediocre card for what seems to come and what the expectations were set to. Those prices are way too high. Hopefully, and probably, they will drop soon or when the 6970 drops.
Thanks Keys.
The other side of the coin though.. nV should consider current 5870 pricing. They did good with the 470 price cut and 460 pricing; but they're not moving on the opportunity to clear 480s out. Look at 5870 pricing in comparison. If 580 is readily available, do what's needed to move 480s (at a price point that's competitive). 480 isn't $100+ better than 5870.
If they have 580 product to support it, they should cut 480 to $399 immediatly.
We have no clue how the 69xx series will perform. It could be fantastic beyond expectation, or it could be another 2900XT. Due to the rumor of lateness, and yes, I acknowledge that it is a rumor, but rumors spring from some sort of truth somewhere, I expect AMD to have a bit of trouble with the 69xx series. New architecture, right? Vec4 instead of Vec5? So, we don't know what the 69xx series will do to the pricing scheme. It may cause everything under it to plummet if the performance is stellar for the price. Could be a mediocre release where it performs well, but not as hyped to. Or it could be AMD's turn for hardship with manufacturing. Maybe it's AMD's turn for a "fabric" like the issues Nvidia ran into with GF100.
Well, I can go on forever as we all could. So many possibilities.
Really you think every rumor springs from truth ? You sure were fast to jump on the rumor that nv's price cuts were not permanent really fast. You set that record straight right quick. Guess it's only the rumor you prefer to be true that have that basis of some truth.
This was true "at one point in time" until it was clarified later on to be permanent. So yes, I stand by what I said. Every rumor has some minute amount of truth to it somewhere, even if that truth is only a truth for a brief time. Same thing. It seems you have some contempt for my jumping on that rumor quickly. Would you rather have been kept in the dark rather than to hear it from me?
Can you field a question to nv for us ? Ask them why they've named a GTX 480 refresh as a brand new series ? The 580 is just the 512SP 480 we've been hearing of for months now. Why the weird naming ? Have you got your free pair of GTX 580s from nvidia yet ? Or did they not bother with the focus group process for this launch as the card is really just a refresh not a new series as it's name denotes.
I already shot off an email to AMD asking the same thing about the 68xx series. I'll let you know what I hear.
Perhaps in your capacity as a mod you can lock the umpteen 580 threads and create the stickied 580 review thread for us all as we saw with the 6870/6850 launch. Thanks.
I am not a video forum mod. Ask Idontcare, BFG10k, or MarkFW600.
Yes the 6970 sure is looking to be an exciting launch when it comes out this month. Brand new architecture. Fastest single-gpu. Big improvements in crossfire scaling that will make it the multiple-card champ as well. Then there is the 6990 in December to look forward to.
6970 is rumored to be late. Do you disagree with this, and why?
Claiming fastest single GPU is a bit pre-mature don't you think? We don't even know if this will be the next 2900XT or R300 yet.
You're claiming many things here without anything to back it up Groover. Why?
1. Brand new arch? Ok sure.
2. Fastest single GPU? Where?
3. Big improvements in crossfire? Where?
4. 6990 in Dec? Confirmed? Where?
