Yeah so I finally got around last night (was up until 3am) installing my BIG power supply and the two 580s (had it since monday) and I'm blown away how quiet it is. Much quieter than the two 460s I had before. Can't hear it over the 6x120mm case fans at 800rpm & 1200rpm and CPU with 2x92mm fans @ 2500rpm. I also use vibration dampeners on all my fans and it helps. Love these cards. In January I'm upgrading to a 27" 2560x1440 panel so I can give these cards a workout...

quieter than a gtx460? you must have been using the external exhaust gtx460 because the other ones are about the quietest cards made.

You always have a pretty killer system... do you notice any difference over the 460's in performance? I would imagine two overclocked 460's can max about anything already.

yep those were the loud ones. you should really clarify that in your post since the standard gtx460 is VERY quiet.

Don't forget I have other cards to compare it to. I can tell you they are quieter than the two XFX5870s I had before and those are considered quiet...

So jealous...you guys seem to have so much disposable income in this economy... 0_0

But then, not everyone lives in the U.S and Canada is doing better. We should track video card sales in Ireland...

It just seems that way because generally people posting on a hardware enthusiast site are going to have the disposable income to participate in the hobby. The numbers are definately skewed here compared to the general population.

This is as out-dated as my rig has been for quite some time. I was attempting to hold out until SB to replace my 775, but the $199 i7 950 @ Microcenter is calling my name.....

I only had few hours with these cards and so far I'm liking it. I've played some BFBC2 last night and this morning and it does feel smoother. It could be my brain playing trick on me but it does feel smoother for some reason...

Why would you hold out for SB? From what I understand the X-58 is the platform to have for the high end for awhile. I'm convinced there is no difference between the 920's, 930's, 950's except for the clock speeds from the factory and if you overclock you'll never know the difference. I've had 4 i7 chips and they basically all overclocked the same. 2 different 920's and 2 930's. I would bet if I got a 950 it would overclock the same as my other chips.

SB is going to be a monster. When the enthusiast versions come out in ~Q3 without the integrated GPU, it will hold the high-end by far.

And you are correct, the 950 is the same as a 920/930, but could possibly be binned a little higher. It just happens to be the $199 microcenter special right now, that is why I would choose that over 920.

But I digress, as we have gone off topic. Sorry Solo!

Post some benchmarks from your 580s..!

You and I are kind of in the same boat. I am still using an E8400 with a raptor, 470, and 8 GBs of ram. That CPU is pretty damn resilient. Waiting on SB to upgrade. Will have used it for 3 years.

The i7 930 is also on sale for $179, so if you want to save $20 and am willing to overclock it more...

Yeah, my GTX 580 is quieter than my GTX 470. Some may call that an unworthy upgrade, but if I consider how much I spent previously water cooling my GTX 470 for a quieter rig and a small bump in OC clocks it actually comes out to less money to just upgrade to a quieter/faster card like the GTX 580.

are you using auto fan profile on both cards? or is the top one more aggressive? i would assume it'll try to grab more air...

SB Quad's were as fast as the 980X in some Apps.. THATS why you wait for SB

Plus 32nm > Bloomfield

AND then there's this

Congrats OP. I'm pretty stoked, next week for 580 SLI. Not a big deal, but I'll be changing GPU TIM and installing high flow brackets I have on hand. The GPU heatsink is so easy to access. I love these coolers.

I grabbed a 930 when they first launched, can't remember but Fry's had a good price. I think mine's at 1.24v for 3.9. 930 or 950, both killer for that money..
