A bit of a contradiction there, isn't it? I will agree that if you want to put in the effort you could find one. I've seen them in stock 2 times since their release at Newegg. That's hardly good for a retail product. It's not like they are supposed to be a limited production item.

Besides, just buy one of the better 670's. Save $100 and get no noticeable difference in performance.

I mean... sure, if you want to nitpick. I got two Gigabyte 680's on release day, F5 mashing not found. I got a Windforce 680 on release day, F5 mashing not found. I got a DC II 680 on release day, F5 mashing not found. If you've only seen them in stock twice, you were doing something wrong, because there has been at least one model in stock almost every day. Granted, it sells out quick, but it's in stock.

My "effort" was a browser add-on that told me when the page changed, probably all while I was in my pajamas watching Spongebob with my kid

Actually, now 3 times. I just checked and there's 3 models in stock.

I didn't check right away on release day. I do generally look a couple times a day at Newegg. I never saw any in stock for the longest time. Then I saw the Asus DCII's when they were released. I've never seen them since. About a week ago when I looked there were a few other models in stock, and now 3 models today. That's it. Hardly easy to find, IMO. They've been out for a while now though and I assume that yields are improving. Things should continue to improve as time goes by.

Still, I wouldn't waste my time on a 680. I'd just pocket a hundred bucks and get a 670. Better availability and almost identical performance visually.

Too much information. D:

Takes time for non reference models to come out.

Please! It's taken time for any models to come in stock. It has nothing to do with reference/non reference. There have been non reference models released for a while now.

I didn't mention that the cheapest in stock model was $550AR. If you want one you're gonna have to pay dearly for it. :'(

My point was only to make clear that the GTX 680s are still of low supply being that Newegg offers 18 different brands of the 680 and only TWO brands of the 18 are in stock. Yesterday THREE brands of the 18 brands in total Newegg carry's were in stock this is indicating VERY LOW SUPPLY which was my intended argument in the first place.

Newegg is not the only place to buy. They have been notoriously poor in keeping high-demand items in-stock for the last couple years. Go to EVGA; they have both a 670 and 680 in-stock and have so for the last few weeks. Same applies everywhere. Sure the 680 is not 'everywhere' but it's hardly 'tough to find' anymore.

Everywhere has been "notoriously" OUT OF STOCK mate because Nvidia is having problems with yields with the new cards.

Did you try to obtain one, or are you assuming? I dedicated, probably, 10 minutes a day total to checking while at work and had no issues. I see an awful lot of "never in stock", but I've yet to see an "I want one and can't get one"

You seem to be implying that the GTX 680 supply is acceptable. It's not
I want an MSI GTX680 Twin Frozr II, but its been out of stock for weeks (i know, i've had a notification alert set with Newegg).

Also, in-stock on Amazon with a price $100 over MSRP = supply problem/not in stock IMO

To get back on the OP... I've got high hopes for the MSI Lightning. The card looks sexy.

I'll agree that if you want a specific non-reference model, there are supply issues. However, saying that you can't get a GTX 680 is just a lie, or a product of being uninformed. You've always been able to get them.

Mate, there are supply issues, period. Right now, out of 20 models on newegg, 3 are in stock. A Galaxy a PNY, neither of which are models that most people are looking to buy, and a EVGA. Add to that the cheapest one is $550, and it all adds up to supply issues. This is months after release. Do we have to remind you of how long that for ~23.5 hrs. a day they were completely out of stock?

Luckily the 670 is in better shape, both stock and price wise. You can get reference EVGA for $399, no gouging going on there, and the FTW card, with 680 PCB, for only $20 more. Anyone who would pay $130 more for a 680 would have to be terribly misinformed, anyway

Not your mate, and have you attempted to purchase one and been unable to?

People use terms of familiarity in bizarre attempts to credence to their claims via some distorted condescension, regardless of merit. And that's exactly what you were doing there.

And so you're saying that there is this magical supply issue, yet there are plenty.

Got it. That's all I was asking.

There is nothing bizarre here except you taking things personal. Nothing you've said addresses anything in the post of mine you originally responded to. I gave you facts. You moved the goal posts and went on attack. The supply and pricing issues I've mentioned are real and no amount of bad attitude by you changes that.
