Ya Its rare an NV thread is locked. The AMD guys did a good job of butchering the other topic. Considering that the release is Wednesday . I kinda think that preview was on the level.

Keys This is the way it should have always been for NV . I like very much how NV has changed its marketing. Tips hat.

Hope the rumor people are a bit dyslexic and the 680 is going to launch at $450. Coming 3 months after 7970 it seems they should be the price mover.

But I'll settle for the 7870 and Kepler equivalent hitting $300.

I think I'm going to avoid V&G for a while. This is ridiculous. New posters and old posters can't seem to behave themselves and act like adults.

There are 3 fanboy or troll posts for every 1 good one.

Agreed, it's becoming more and more difficult not to step in the BS here. I've tried ignoring some of the posters, but the list is growing lately, pretty soon I'll have to see if it's not easier to simply steer clear of V&G.

But hey, take heart, there are alternatives to having dirt on the shoes.
You could always try http://www.visualphotos.com/photo/2x2675647/businessman_on_pogo_stick_cb032267.jpg

Bench images ... snip

Assuming that the images are real--a big "if"--were they both maxed out on OC headroom, or did the GTX 680 have more headroom that went unused? How much more headroom?

I know it's only an artificial benchmark, but it's still a pretty good showing by Nvidia, and I am eager to see how it does in actual games, particularly in regards to minimum fps (w/ GPU Boost).

Why is he comparing it to 7950? Not that impressed. Put 1.3v to it and jack it up. he probably gets HW by the tray load.

Haha, man that other thread went down like crazy! Still nothing new in terms of leaks? Woof! I'd had hope with the first leak we'd get some kind of broken dam affect.

At least some new pics

I'll check back later.

GTX 680 OC SLI @ 1150/1800 -VS.- HD7970 OC Crossfire @ 1150/1500

stock GTX 680 > stock HD7970?

OC'd GTX 680 < OC'd HD7970?

Would like to know more about respective oc'ing headroom and real-life games instead of synthetic benches.

It's amazing how people just can't enjoy the products. The price/perf curve was broken due to anomalies that generally don't usually happen. When asked where they'd price the HD 7970 - none of them answered, they just knew it was too expensive based on past events.

Now their team is doing the exact same thing and you have an avid complainer of price openly say "I'd pay a premium for nVidia."

It's like - WTF people!? Seriously? I own both products in my house hold, so I get to tinker with both feature sets. So far, I wouldn't even say one is miles over the other at the same price point. For what you pay, each benefit differently. From what I'm reading it seems nVidia is copying AMD and doing a good job at it. So now nVidia users can benefit from AMD features and guess what, AMD copied nVidia this round two (custom profiles, the AA crap) and it's almost to the point where both companies offer the exact same product.

And before BoFox gets in here, yes I am an AMD shill :awe:

Go Premiums!

haha.

The point about two 'competiting' companies offering what are getting to be indistinguishable products performance wise at the same price point is well made and a bit worrying. Despite architectural and design team differences they always seems to be within 10-15% of each other.
I guess this is how capitalism works in the long run-sort of like Coke and Pepsi- but with graphics the barriers to entry mean a duopoly could persist for a very long time. Also the lack of new really demanding games and slowed CPU development means thing will probably get worse.
AMD has always offered better price/performance but that's because some people believe the marketing hype put out by Nvidia and will pay a premium for something that's no better than generic.

Yes thanks ballatheFeared for your lesson, however I know what a core and shader clock are. That is what a hotclock is. 1.1ghz core shows 2.2ghz shader in that program, because the program reads the video card's core speed from the I2C bus, and outputs twice that measurement into the "Shader" box because the uncore & core domains in Fermi are 1:2.

There is no speed measurement derived from the ALU domain, the program just says xxx mhz times two for Nvidia. amirite?
