Bit the bullet and ordered from TigerDirect before the EVGA came back in stock at Newegg... but I couldn't cancel my TD order. BAH. Oh well, card won't be here for a couple weeks, but it gives me time to prep the rest of my system for a massive overhaul (complete rebuild would be a better term).

This is my first time buying an nVidia card, and I am upgrading from a 5850. I had a $100 Newegg GC and after the reviews hit this morning I just couldn't resist. I just bought the EVGA 680 and was wondering if any other seasoned nVidia vets could chime in if this is a good choice or not. My current card is pretty quiet, is the 51.9dB load reading from Ryan's review going to be pretty loud? I'm a "buy once, cry once" kinda guy so I just wanna make sure this card is gonna rock
I've historically been an nVIDIA guy, but my last card was the 5870, and that was great. The 680 is going to absolutely destroy the 5850, so if you're going for performance, it's a great upgrade. If you're concerned about noise, the 680 is going to be significantly louder than the 5850. 52 dB isn't all that loud, but it is noticeable. If you truly want a quiet system, you may want to hold off to see if a non-reference dual-fan design comes out which should be quieter.

I was sitting at lunch with the girlfriend, and I told her, "you'll have to excuse me when I randomly check for this video card being in stock!" I ended up nabbing an EVGA off Newegg. I kind of scared myself because I did it so quickly that I thought it wasn't the EVGA brand. I did it on my phone so I couldn't easily just look at the browser history.

Unfortunately, most sites don't test WoW performance, but I typically use StarCraft II as a benchmark as any graphs that I've seen have tended to be similar between the two (related to the performance increase). I don't have a problem in most places, but during heavy AoE in 25-man situations, I can feel my current 6950 chugging a bit, and in some cases, I was seeing around 15-20 FPS.

I saw some wow benchmarks at toms:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-680-review-benchmark,3161-12.html

It kills in Wow, so you should be good to go.

I grabbed an EVGA too. First time I've purchased a card on launch day.

Had to cancel my evga from TD because it went to backorder, but managed to get a zotac that were still in stock. I like evga a lot more but I'm not planning on oc'ing this anyway so I think it will be fine.

Edit: Actually EVGA isn't even listed there anymore...When I talked to the guy on the phone while I was cancelling he said they wouldn't be getting anymore shipments of it for 2 weeks.

Zotac actually comes with 3 Assassin's Creed games. Not bad if your looking to play a lot of AC. lol

the 680 is looking to be incredibly strong in DX9 (at least when not CPU limited like in Skyrim), the Portal 2 and Star Craft 2 benches from the AT review are flat out amazing, often besting the dual GPU 6990s and 590s, or at least coming very close to matching like it appears to do in the Toms WoW bench, nipping at the heals of the 590.

Since these cards dont have a static PDW, do you think there is any way I could run into trouble with SLI with/without OCing them in the most demanding games?

I have a 750W Bronze Star Antec PSU running a 2500k OC to 4.2 Ghz stock voltage, gigabyte z68 mobo 8 GB 1600 RAM@1333, 1TB Caviar Black, two Crucial M4s, one DVD drive. This is all in a CM Stormtrooper case with 1x200mm, 6x120mm fans.

I remember reading that it was not advised to run 570 SLI with this PSU, but that it was close to being adequate. My 680s won't arrive until Tuesday, so I want to get a new PSU now if I need to, but I blew so much cash on them I would rather not get another PSU unless it is really needed.

I ran 2 280s on a 750w. People exaggerate power use.

Ran 2x 470s that were very, very highly overclocked on an Antec TP-New 750W and it was just fine.

LOL, TigerDirect.ca shows the Galaxy GTX 680 as in-stock but it won't ship for two weeks. I think that's commonly referred to as "backordered", guys...

I just installed my EVGA 680GTX that I ordered from newegg yesterday. Their next day shipping worked great. This is the first time I've purchased the highest end card on launch day, I guess I am now in the club of the "crazy enthusiast."
