I wonder how much the 8970's performance might be vs the 780 when its released. If its decently faster than the 780 (as a new gen GPU would have to be vs the competition's last gen), it would be a massive jump in performance vs the 7970GE. So that may be quite a tall order for the 8970 to fill when it comes out.

I finally got to sit down and read through all the reviews, the leaks were pretty much spot on in the last few days. Kind of disappointed to see the stagnation of technology, ~22% performance gained over the first 40nm cards isn't impressive, nor is the mediocre overclocking ability. Hopefully 20nm will be coming sooner than later.

Another gold award from [H], I'm pretty sure they would give the award to a moldy piece of bread as long as it had GeForce on it somewhere.

Good card, terrible value.

Dang, its listed as $679.00 in my local retail store. Although I have the budget for it, its still a lot for me. That number makes me cringe now, since I became more independent after graduating this year added all my bills and stuff. But I will take this as my graduation present for myself lol, plus I have a full time job in my career. But I still feel bad lol

I sure wish it was cheaper so that it would apply some downward pressure on the price of a new GTX670.

Take the money you put aside, and travel the world instead. It's far better

Hey if you want it, more power to ya. If I could afford it I'd buy 2 Gigabyte Windforce versions and overclock em in SLI just because. No reason to feel bad about using your money for what you want, unless it came before the rent or something.

I think its been clear for a long time that Nvidia sees its important to have the fastest single GPU in their line-up. Even if it doesnt represent good value. They missed that slightly with the 680 and "did an AMD" by settling for 2nd best at a lower price, but with the 780 they are back to where they once were. I think its important for them in terms of brand image, that they have the fastest single card on the planet. This I assume (according to their reasoning) may translate into a trickle down effect in sales of their lesser products.

I had this budget intended for Titan, because I wanted to replace my 580 SLI and go back to single cards. I also have some money put aside to visit my relatives in Australia, but I just started my new job and cant get my vacay yet. I am good with my responsibilities, I am just more conscious about my money now.

Yeah, I actually did not spend anything during college. And I just want to reward myself a little =)

Well, the 680 was the fastest GPU at release.

I think if anything happens to AMD, then all of Nvidia's good cards will be labeled as super high end and the entire cost bracket will shift upward to the absolute max that people will be willing to spend. In that case, i'll go back to being a single GPU guy. At the current prices, I am already headed back to a single GPU rig for my next upgrade. Won't spend $1,300+ for SLI. Just won't do it.

I don't have money for 780. And even if I had, I could not justify the pricing. I hoped new generation will bring prices of old card down - just like it happened with every generation. Pushing 680/670 7950/7970 down in price would be more then welcome. I guess we are in fixed price/performance era. Expect next generation to hit $1500 mark (if it is 50% faster than titan), and generation after next generation $2000 (if it is 100% faster than titan).
People are paying $450 for your run of the mill mid-range GHz card, but can't justify the GTX 780... They'll say you're buying into Nvidia's marketing while having already bought into a 100% price hike on their mid-range card.

Perspective. Mid-range GHz/680 for $500 is ok, but $650 for a card that should cost double what the $250 (now $500) cards cost is too much? I think not, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like lower prices... But honestly 1K was the doubling, $650 is a godsend for extreme high end users in this current market.

Please, can you explain how there was no high-end cards in hd7000/gtx600 series? Isn't the fastest card in generation a high-end?

Probably because GK110 is the same generation and same Kepler uarch as Kepler.

This isn't even a real refresh, it just the rest of the lineup.
