this card makes Titan, 690 and 7990 look extremely weak for 2x the money.

and as a single card it's pretty good, as fast/faster than the 7950, but it feels newer and most buyers are going to see this way, even if its good old GK104, this card have all the ingredients to be a huge success, a real successor to the 560 Ti I think...
AMD needs to do... something.

7950 = $250 after MIR (Sapphire) with 4 free games. GTX760, after what, almost a year? Same price, no free games, OC's significantly worse. Why does AMD have to change anything?

MIR vs MSRP? Go search for the majority of 7950s on newegg and they are 299 or more.
The 760 is near the 670 which was a 399 part and sells in the 350ish range now. Nvidia dropped the price on that performance segment by 100 bucks.

There are 0 760's cheaper than $249. There are 7 7950's cheaper than $299. MSRP doesn't matter when the street price is cheaper, and for the 760 street price = MSRP.

ok drama queen

btw the EVGA 760 when overclocked is 26% faster than a stock 760 which sure as hell is not bad. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_760_SC_ACX_Cooler/30.html

I know there's fluctuation with overclocking, but everything I've seen is that the MSI runs a good 5-6 degrees C cooler at load than the EVGA, yet the EVGA gets better results overclocking? Any theories on why this might be?

Even if you ignore benchmarks and prices, launching with Haswell was brilliant.

I wasn't planning to do a CPU upgrade for another couple of months, but that was a large factor in jumping on this card now.

Lol, so Titan performance for half the price?

Would rather just get a Windforce 450w 780 instead of 760 SLI TBH.

It would probably gain more from OC as well, since GK110 is nowhere near its realistic clock speed limit.

Just BIOS mod it with a higher TDP limit and maybe higher voltage and you're golden.

SLI and CF has always been the best perf/$ for those willing to do some minor tweaking once in awhile. Its the added hassle that offset the $ savings.

For example, SLI gtx660ti or CF 7950s since release would have made everything above mid-range obsolete.

But some users always prefer single cards, less hassles.

Can someone help me?

Between this and the HD7950 which one should I get?

CPU: i5 3570k
GPU: GTX 275
RAM: 8GB DDR3
PSU: Corsair AX760

My resolution will be 1920x1080 at all times.
Did I forget anything relevant ?

single GPU, both should be fine, the 7950 might be more fun to overclock? the 760 might have slightly better drivers... maybe if one specific game that you play the most is optimized for one or the other it could help you decide... so look for some reviews..

multi GPU = GTX 760.

MSI TF 670 is $345 with a rebate.
MSI Gaming 760 is $260 without a rebate.

Performance difference between them is maybe 5-7%.

This is a huge card for the price segment. It's what the 660Ti should have been. This card has just destroyed 660Tis/670s resale values. In other words, a perfectly executed refresh.

Imo this card will drop prices on 7950/7970/7970GE more than any other card from NV. GTX770 was too overpriced for AMD to make any movements other than small price drops but this card effectively means AMD has to drop prices on their 7900 cards (which of course means I think 770/780/Titan are horribly overpriced now that the 760 is out).

Balla, you seem to have lost track of price/performance this generation. This little $259 after-market 760 card is just 10-15% behind $499 GTX680 from last year and is not much slower than $350-450 HD7970GEs/770s.

You are effectively getting 90% of the performance of the 680 for half the price. That would be similar if in 15-16 months a $325 card gave 90% of the performance of the GTX780. That would be very good.

I really like how inexpensive enthusiast performance becomes after only a year. NVIDIA is attacking AMD pretty hard right now I hope AMD has its 8000 series ready to go. Competition is awesome for us consumers right now.

I don't like MultiGPU. More trouble than worth.
So basically, I should get a 7950 if I can get it for the same price as the 760.
Otherwise, get the 760?

Yes. Either card will suit your needs but the 7950 seems to have more overclocking headroom and comes with 4 free games.

Hello, I´m moving to pc gamming and I would appreciate some advice with video cards. In Spain I can buy both the 760 and the 7950 boost at the same price, so I think I should go for the second one regarding I would get a game bundle and 7970 performance after clocking.

But as I don't know how video cards market works I'm not sure if I should buy now or I should wait for 8000 series for much more performance/price. Atm the gtx 680 is 50-100€ more expensive than the 770 which I'm unable to understand, something has to be changing soon.

I know there is always gonna be something better than yours soon but I just wouldn´t wanna make my buy on the less appropiate momment. All that I want is to have my pc ready by the time Battlefield 4 is out and to be able to max it out (maybe not max AA) at 60 fps. Better if I don' have to wait that much since my laptop is half-dead but I would if it was worth it.

Thanks in advance, awesome forum this one!

You usually buy on what's available
But this cards for now will offer the best price for buck.
The next series will probably jack the prices so high again. I might be wrong, but the graphic cards market is almost adopting the tick/tock model of Intel, without the whole replacing well defined price points

the HD 7950 once overclocked to 1150 mhz will beat a GTX 760 (1250 - 1300 mhz) ) across the board. HD 7950 and GTX 670 are equals at average overclocks of 1150 and 1250 mhz respectively. add to it the extra 1GB VRAM and 4 free games and its a no brainer. at the same clocks HD 7950 is 5% slower than HD 7970.

http://www.legionhardware.com/artic...z_edition_7950_iceq_xsup2_boost_clock,13.html

go with sapphire hd 7950 boost (925 mhz) or HIS HD 7950 iceq x2 boost(950 mhz) or MSI HD 7950 TF3 OC BE (960 mhz). all these cards have good coolers and unlocked voltage.

Please note that the chance of getting a stable 1100+ core clock overclock on 7950 is roughly equivalent chance of getting a 1300-1400 core clock (not set clock, but observed boost clock) 760/770.

The aftermarket Windforce 3x REV2.0 is also the best free(ish) cooler this generation, and it only comes on the Nvidia cards right now.

The only coolers that are even close to it are the MSI Lightning TwinFrozr IV cooler and the HIS IceQ^2 cooler. If you can't get those, the Windforce 3x REV2.0 will be vastly superior to the other coolers on the 7950s.

The Windforce 3x that is on the 7970 and 7950 are fairly inferior to the Windforce 3xREV2.0 on the Nvidia cards currently. They also come on cards that are completely voltage locked as of January 2013.

For the 7950s you also have to be aware of which cards come with which binning of GDDR5 ram. Many 7950s come with very low binned ram, and will not go over 1400 ish GDDR5 clock (5600 MT/s)

Unfortunately, you'll have to scour the respective threads on the Overclock.net forum to see people's respective overclocks.

Whatever clocks you see on overclock.net, multiply it by .85-.95 and you'll get a good sense of what you are likely to see running completely stably.

People like to boast about "stable" clocks that aren't stable by the criteria a manufacturer would deem it to be .

According to HWBot, the 7950 with over 1600 submissions has an average overclock of 1146/1628 on air. The 760 with 32 submissions so far has an average overclock of 1269/1757.

Me thinks you're being rather pessimistic about the overclocking capabilities of the 7950.

People submit at maximum possible boot clocks, not maximum possible stable clocks.

Example from my Sapphire 7970 in my sig.

My maximum possible boot clocks are 1300 core 1900 ram.

My maximum possible stable clocks at manufacturer spec (as in 0% artifacts/crashes anything weird in every single stress test I can do) is 1100 core 1700 ram, 1050 core 1800 ram.

These are very important and often glossed over differences.

That's why I don't brag about a 5ghz processor since I've only done full validation for the 4.6ghz in my sig.

You also forget that people don't advertise bad overclocks on an overclock forum.
That's just culturally discouraged.

I didn't buy my hardware to get arbitrary high scores on benchmarks with my whole screen artifacting / unstable.
