Sorry but the price of the 780 GTX makes me laugh.

20% faster than the 7970 for more than double the price.

This is like BMW charging $40,000 for the 2.0L and then $80,000 for the 2.5L because its 20% larger engine gives 20% more HP.

Frames per second are not as valuable as Nvidia tries to make people believe. 20% wont make a game playable that is already struggling on a 7970.

That GPU should be 30% more than a 7970 maximum. Not 100% more.

Dont buy it. Thats is the only way to make them listen.

why stop there? Any particular reason?
did you mean to say....

by the way, the 7970 is about $450 on the egg.

even the one with a $30 rebate its 410. if the 780 was double the price it would be $900 (820 if you count the xfx card with the 30$ rebate). The 780 is nowhere near double the cost.
So as a correction the gtx 780 is 1.4 times the cost of the 7970ghz.

The 760 is 250, The 7970ghz is about 1.8 times the cost of a gtx 760. It only offers 1.18% the performance for nearly 2 times the price.

if your gonna make snide comments at least be fair about it. When your talking about cards in the highest brackets, you can always find a better performance per dollar value if you step down to a lower bracket. As bad as you try to make the gtx 780 appear, its nowhere near as bad as the 7970ghz vs the gtx 760. As a matter of fact, everything you just said would be an argument against anyone buying a 7970ghz over the gtx 760. If you believed anything you are preaching then you should be preaching the gtx 760 over all.

To be fair, you can get a 1Ghz 7970 for $360 AR. In which case the 780 becomes 1.8x as expensive for only 1.18x more performance.

In regards to the 760, the 7970 would be 1.44x more expensive and 1.19x faster. The 760 still offers more bang for your buck but it's not as disparate as you painted it.

You are not seeing the woods for the trees. The potential total sales for next gen consoles will totally dwarf the 60% of a by comparison tiny market that is PC discrete GPUs. Games rarely ever support features that only work with Nvidia and even then they are never EVER nvidia exclussives. You are seriously over stating what Nvidia have to offer.

Developers choice.
  1. Optimise for the massive next gen console market. All of which have AMD GPUs
  2. Optimise to the much smaller number of people who have Nvidia GPUs in their PCs.
Such a hard choice there.

The vast majority of games developers aim for consoles and the PC versions are usually simple ports with simple changes. If the consoles support DX 11.2 then their games will use Dx 11.2. Any PC GPU that doesn't support DX11.2 will be Shit outta luck. We already have games that do not support older DX9 cards or offer much reduced eye candy DX9.0 support. It is this status quo that drives hardware developement.

Consoles 1st
PC second

Up to this point there are more Kepler cards on the market than next gen consoles. So why would a developer optimize their game for a plattform which will not sell more consoles than nVidia cards?!

Because things change and I'm sure the developers will make sure everything works well on all pcs

nVidia sold 90 million Kepler cards. Even if only 1% are interested in BF4, that would mean 900k buyers. Combine this with a target price of $30 EA will lose $27 millions if they optimize the game for consoles and AMD cards.

And BF4 is a multi plattform game so i think they will not even sell 900k copies on both next gen plattforms.

I guess AMD's paycheck was really huge to sacrifice 90 million potential customers.

Total GPU shipments are about 86 million/year, of that Nvidia has ~17% share. Kepler has been out about 15 months, do the math....

So how many Kepler GPUs had Nvidia shipped? Does your post address that at all?

It's clear that my post addresses yours. The quote should be a hint :ninja:

Total Kepler GPUs sold? 20-30M would be my guesstimate.
Dont' forget that Fermi is still in the mix.

I mixed up numbers/share/market segement my mistake. But there is no way NV produced 90 million Kepler based GPUs.

What was this thread about again?
