Guess what I got to take a ride in today? Hint: The rarest new truck on the road!

I know we have a garage sub but this isn't really a question about vehicles or servicing them. It's more of general post about how I got to experience some awesomeness today.

So a customer came in today and I started talking to him about his Rivian R1T when him and his wife were checking out. After a few minutes of him showing me around the truck and some of its features he asked me if I wanted to take a ride. Of course I wasn't going to turn that down so said HELL YEAH! haha So we hop in and drives a bit down the road and pulls off to the side of the road and puts in it Sport mode...

Holy shit was this thing fast as HELL! I've NEVER experienced acceleration like this EVER. He said we hit 0-60 in about 3.3 seconds. It was incredible and I feel so lucky just not only have seen one but got to actually ride in one. The interior was super nice and the fit and finish was really good for a new vehicle manufacturer but it did look a little drab with all the dark blues and grays. It was really comfortable and quiet though. There was hardly any road noise and of course no engine noise. Tons of interior space to so if you have back seat passengers they won't feel cramped.

Anyway, enough chit chat onto some pics and a vid of the 0-60 run!

Here is the vid I took of our 0-60 jaunt. It's only 1:09 seconds long but the real action starts around the :30 second mark.

Seen a few around Chicago. Great looking trucks and amazing reviews.

Nice!

Kind of funny how I figured this company was vaporware but turns out they're the only one actually delivering a truck in the end.

That's a good looking truck. Not enough bed to be practical for me, but if the cab were chopped off to an extended, I could work with that.

I feel the same way but even the new gas trucks are like that now. Realistically if I want an EV truck I think I will end up swapping my current one.

I guess with the short boxes you can always just get a trailer for it, but still nice to just have the long box.

oh man, i've got to ride in an electric vehicle someday

the limited range and lack of charging stations will probably keep me from getting one for at least a decade

but boy does that look cool

The first time you punch it in a fast full-EV is quite the experience!

Unless you've ridden a big Japanese sport-bike or maybe driven an ICE super-car you are just not prepared for the instant-speed. 0-35 or so in particular is a real rush! (and I love eye-ball flattening acceleration!)

Even so I doubt my next car will be full-electric until the infrastructure matures.... far more likely it will be a plug-in hybrid.

Speaking of EVs I saw a Tesla here today, that's a rare sight. With our roads lately I almost feel bad for it though. Even in my pickup I had to slow down for a couple really bad holes.

I've seen several nice cars on the side of the road with a busted wheel in the last few days alone.

I realize a 2-inch sidewall can look cool and handles better on the track due to stiffness but they're just stupid for road-use.

This was my first full EV experience and you're right the acceleration was mind blowing! I'm still telling my wife about it this morning. haha

I think my next vehicle will be a full ev. In a couple of years when we get my wifes Ford Maverick paid off I think I will make the jump. Her new truck has the 2.0 Ecoboost so we can take that on long trips if needed and then we will have my ev for short trips around town on the weekends. My daily commute to work is less then 15 minutes so an ev could do that no problem.

I don't think I would want the R1T it's just not my type of vehicle but the Mustang Mach-E GT is really the first full ev that has caught my attention and made me serious about my next vehicle being fully electric.

First EV ride is definitely eyeopening experience. But what's even way better is the first EV drive. The instant power and torque are so much fun and it never gets old. It's like piloting super fast rollercoaster you manually control. You should definitely try to test drive an EV. Maybe even a Tesla.

You don't know the willpower it has taken me to not to order Tesla Model S Plaid. It's good thing Tesla raised the price by $16k since I first considered it or I might have given in. But I must stay strong and wait for the Cybertruck. That's my true love.

Even with just my 16-18 mile range on my PHEV I use the engine so rarely I keep the fuel tank dosed with Sta-bil. Plug it in back at home after every trip.

Next vehicle will be all electric in a few years when somebody actually sells the car I'd want.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the exterior appearance of the Rivian... It's so...different. There's a LOT I like about it though.
The Tesla truck .. nope, that thing is just FUGLY as hell. We'll see how it looks IF it ever gets into production

The Tesla "truck" looks like it was designed by a 5 year old.

The Rivian is just sorta weird looking but at least it's semi-practical.... looks like they decided to double-down on the "giant smartphone" style dashboard though which I hate.

Individual dedicated gauges and buttons/switches are vastly superior when actually driving unless looking "slick" is the priority.

The only thing that slightly bothers me about the Rivian is the front end. It isn't bad; just a little weird. I've seen worse on production vehicles.

It's certainly unique.... at least the Rivian will actually be useful as a truck too not just an absurd fashion-statement despite the "googly-eyes" headlights.

Rivian bed size is 4.5 ft. Yeah, that's real useful as a truck bed. lol.

Rivian wants to be Land Rover of EV. That's their clientele and target market. Rich people care about fashion. They don't want to drive something that looks like boring Ford Ranger.

Wow that's smaller then I thought!

Guess it's not a practical choice either .... frankly I don't get the super-deluxe pickup thing if you can afford more than one vehicle. So far just about every EV-truck I've read about/seen is on the "frivolous" side of design. (although that will change soon with Ford getting into EV's)

I live in Big Merican Truck USA where every third vehicle is a pickup. Nobody but contractors haul anything. All the guys with Raptors and covers on the bed aren't hauling shit.

Even the contractors who are sporting ridiculously lifted trucks have to use trailers for everything because they made their beds useless lol.

Guy who owns the building I live in has a bright red loaded Chevy Silverado extended-cab with a covered bed. (not a "cap" one of those color-matching flush with the sides locking things)

Even in the back seat it's like riding in your living room with more passenger-space then even most BIG cars but it's useless for getting anything done despite having an 8-foot bed the way he has it set up.

Even here in Connecticut giant super-luxo SUV's and 4x4' pickups that will NEVER see even a bumpy dirt road are pretty common.
