Guess what's coming soon.

Steppe Eagle? Mullins/Beema? Stacked RAM? Interposer? HDL on Cat processors? Something else?

Beema on AM1 would be awesome even at a higher price point than Kabini given it's extra capabilities. There's lots of great possibilities though!

Since this thread is full of pre-launch discussion, all post-launch discussion is available in a new thread

Beema on AM1 announced this early would Osbourne their already shipping products on that platform. My bet is they will anounce Beema/Mullins, and tout a couple of design wins and call it a day.

Not if they release them at a higher price point. It would be another product in the AM1 product stack similar to all other platforms.

But Steppe Eagle is releasing in H1 also, so this could be an embedded reveal. The countdown reaches 0 at primetime in India and China though so that could be related.

As far as I can gather, the main selling point of Beema is improved performance/W i.e. improved turbo performance. Not really as important for the desktop platform.

Intel has been improving their Perf/W by each generation with their Core line (well, cept desktop haswell), instead of going for better raw performance, that didnt stop people from rushing to buy their new products each time.

Gah, what's with that light blue header bar? I keep thinking "Intel" when I see that.

If I'm deciphering the CPU and GPU portion correctly that is 4 small CPU cores and 2 GCN units so probably some Cat based product. Beema was announced as shipping, let's go with that.

This is AMD's marketing team we are talking about. I wouldn't be surprised to see them do this.

I would actually be encouraged more to buy the AM1 platorm today if I knew there was a Beema upgrade possibility in the future.

But I bet that will not be the announcement.

Could it be a new Kaveri APU with a lot more GCN CUs on the way? Or is designing/manufacturing and validating a new large iGPU Kaveri APU just too time consuming to manage before the Excavator APU releases?

I can guess what it won't be: Something that doesn't suck! Booyah! :sneaky:  :awe: :awe: :awe: :awe: :awe:

Any time a company resorts to the "We have a surprise for you" marketing tactic it's always a ball of disappointment. Plus, there hasn't really been anything new in the microchip world in about 15 years.

Fifteen years? So you weren't blown away by all the leaked Conroe ES chips in H2 '05/H1 '06? Compared to what Intel had on shelves, those things were amazing. That was probably the most brilliant marketing tactic Intel has used . . . ever?

You wouldn't be able to start the same fire that way thesedays, but still.

No one has mentioned that this is the EXACT same die as kabini?

Not too impressed. Its exactly like richland. Same die with minor improvements. Some of which (guessing turbo) should have been on kabini in the first place.

Kabini die

Die shown

Not seeing ANY changes.

That is a really good observation. (Rotating the top image 90 degrees counter clockwise really helps bring that point home for me).

But what other changes besides turbo? (As I remember Richland was basically just Trinity with about 300 Mhz gains on the base CPU clocks across the board on all the SKUs. I don't remember what gains there were on the GPU for Richland vs.Trinity)
