Guesses on iPhone OS 4 features

-ability to turn off screen rotation (one of the huge reasons why i jailbreak)

What do you use to turn it off? Can i add it to the SBsettings toggle?

bingo. all rotation inhibitor does is add a toggle under sbsettings. i honestly feel kind of silly for saying it, but it really is one of the major reasons why i jailbreak. also, its free (thank god, for something so simple, it better be).

The one thing I like about the Zune HD, the artist slideshow thing for artists MS has done pics of. Pretty cool to watch them scroll while the music plays. Apple should come up with something similar but better looking.

Why would you want OTA updates?

The same reason I want wireless syncing. I don't plug my iPhone into my PC to charge it, and syncing the damn phone takes forever.

Seriously, though... I want a Flash or Silverlight player!

yep, its built into sbsettings. my dock looks different because i have installed olddock (to make it look like the 1st gen ipod touch with the very first firmware on it), as well as reflective dock to...well lol reflect the dock icons. both tweaks/apps are free on cydia.

The only thing I know for certain is that I'm not buying a new iPhone this summer. Im definitely waiting to see how WP7S pans out.

All I can tell Apple is that iPhone OS 4.0 better bring it. It looks like a 2007 interface in a 2010 Zune HD world.

The Zune HD UI sucks, if Apple makes OS 4.0 look like a Zune HD copy cat I refuse to upgrade my Touch or iPhone. While there are things I do like about the Zune HD UI, as a whole the demos I've seen for the WM7 don't look usable at all. Plus with the iPhone you can Jailbreak it and make the UI look like whatever you want. Hell people look at my iPhone and are confused since I've put iNav on for the UI. They think it's not even an iPhone. I will give you that the Zune HD looks newer, but newer isn't always better IMHO.

Well, that's why there's different OS's I suppose. WP7S looks just awesome to me. That on top of the awesome demo for Netflix yesterday with Watch Instantly has almost sealed it for me.

Personally, I've never had any luck with jailbreaking. I've done it a few times and every time my phone starts acting weird and I've barely installed anything.

Maybe after two years of looking at a 4x4 grid of icons I'm just looking for a change. Maybe I'm just hoping that keeping my SERO account active on Sprint for two years will finally pay off.

Having used WinMo for 5 years prior and I never had the feeling that my phone was boring. I could pretty much do whatever I felt like and was kind of happy with the interface but was looking for a better web browsing experience.

Oh well, I've rambled on long enough. Like I said, I really hope Apple brings it with 4.0, I really do. But from what I know about Apple, they are great at innovating and revolutionizing, but are usually stubborn and bad at evolving. The iPhone feels like it could be so much more but, as we all know, it's Apple's (or AT&T's) way or the highway.

I think you've nailed it. I love my iPhone, but really it's getting stale. I mean, yes it works, but I see newer devices coming out with cool new features.. like the WP7S Live integration, and Android's integration with Google Apps.

At the moment I'm stuck with my iPhone as I don't have any money to upgrade, but I definitely am looking at alternatives, if something revolutionary doesn't happen with 4.0. The same is going on for me for OS X 10.7, as well. I love my Mac, but I'm really wanting some more innovation on that front.

Yes, I know that all of the above features can be obtained by JB, but I'd rather not having to deal with all that hassle and fear of locked handsets everytime theres a system upgrade.

jailbreaking rocks. its not for the user - its for the abuser

if you can hackintosh and has a solid machine (maybe 1 feature not working) then you can jailbreak and love it. this includes upgrading without torching your hackintosh.

certainly makes an old iphone 2G for $150 alot of value.

the 3G (early) and 2G can run unsigned firwmare still. the 3GS - well if you don't have the SHSH keys on cydia already you can sit out and wait.

last time i checked 3G with old bootroom were like $300-350 ish and 2G about 50% of that price in primo condition. gotta watch for hidden damage or stolen(Blacklisted) phones though

Wonder if they would add some of the mobileme like features without a cost of membership. That'd be nice.
I enjoyed the trial membership and the push email but didn't want to fork over the $99 bucks for a year thing.

Funny, since I'm willing to fork over 500 for the hardware. Hope the new phone doesnt go for much more than that. Guess I'd sell my old one though and lower the overall cost a bit.

What's weird is I've always disliked Apple because of their proprietary methods and their snooty "cool" tax on the goods. I guess it's just a marketing thing, and it works well because the iphone made me jump over just due to the internet browsing. Still not getting a mac though....yet.

my hope is for 4.0 would allow email push noticiation every 5 minutes instead of 15 minutes..my friends complained I am like slow responser or they think i ingored new email. Also I would like 4.0 come out with customized ringstones/vibrations for each IM, email, and text message.

The 3g iphone I use gets well over a day. Sometimes 2. I use it for about 1 to 1.5 hours a day.

I'm hoping for something totally off the wall and awesome for the next iPhone release, like a 3D GUI interface that makes it look like program icons are projected above the screen. It would be even cooler if it came with new touch screen technology that allows you to "click" on these projected screen icons simply by hovering your finger over them.

Most of the things that we're asking for in this thread would only allow Apple to play catch-up with their Palm and Android competition. I want to see them come up with something new that totally blows the competition away.
