hello Bodah

the following should be safe to disable for testing, followed by deletion, if no problems found of course:
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LaunchApp] Alaunch removing prevents Acer Launch tool from appearing at startup
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\System32\igfxtray.exe removing removes the tray icon for intel chipsets, still available via control panel
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIModeChange] Ati2mdxx.exe removes the ATI system tray, all functions still available via display properties
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AcerNotebookManager] C:\Program Files\Acer\Notebook Manager\almxptray.exe disables acer system tray quick access
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RebateNation0] "C:\Program Files\Rebate_Nation\RebateNation0.exe" This is spyware, uninstall it
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe This is adware, uninstall it
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
[*]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
[*]O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AIM] C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe -cnetwait.odl remove only if you dont want aim starting up with system and consume resources
[*]O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [HXIUL.EXE] C:\Program Files\Cosmi\HelpExpress\vxved\HXIUL.EXE This is spyware, uninstall it
[*]O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [HELPEXP.EXE] C:\Program Files\Cosmi\HelpExpress\vxved\Client\HelpExp.exe This is spyware, uninstall it
[*]O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background remove only if you do not want msn starting with windows and taking up resources
[*]O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE [removing frees up system resources at the expense of slower load times for office[/b]
[*]O4 - Global Startup: Program Neighborhood Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICA Client\pnagent.exe Not familiar with this audio program, but it should be safe to disable and you start it manually latter if you want
[*]O4 - Global Startup: HotSync Manager.lnk = C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\HOTSYNC.EXE can easily be enabled manually via start>programs
[*]O4 - Global Startup: NkVwMon.exe.lnk = C:\Program Files\Nikon\NkView4\NkVwMon.exe can be started manually if needed

In the guide to speeding up your internet connection it says to "merge" certain values into the registry. I'm not sure what is meant by "merge". Below is a cut/paste of one of the instructions:

By default Windows 2K & XP cache everything in the DNS cache service, both correct and faulty DNS lookups. To increase performance by eliminating the caching of faulty DNS lookups, copy and paste the following and make it a .reg file and merge it into your regstry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters]

"NegativeCacheTime"=dword:00000000
"NetFailureCacheTime"=dword:00000000
"NegativeSOACacheTime"=dword:00000000

Thanks for a great guide and for all the other help you give everyone on this site :thumbsup:

This is a great guide. Anyways, I went to the firefox site, and the stickied FAQ on what build to get didn't help much, so what build should I get? If specs matter:
1.6Ghz Pentium M (Centrino)
512mb RAM
Mobility Radeon 9000

And are there any other WinXp tweak sites? Thanks.

you might want to consider removing steam, you can launch it anytime you want from the programs menu or your desktop and it wont be sitting there sucking up resources

i would reccomend that you keep a backup of it. i mean, if you have a large hard drive it does not matter.

I am going to keep a backup of them, but since I do not use any of the fonts really so I want to know what fonts are required to be in the fonts folder. That way I can remove the ones that are not needed. Is there 1 font that is required?
