It's not 100% effective in blocking everything, but it sure has cut down on the number of problems I've encountered and subsequently needed AdAware for.

it is mentioned in the prevention guide on the site, excellent tool

My nephew took his computer up north and now he is back. He's 16 and frequents porn! He can't read because of a Learning disorder.... so he clicks on everything and agrees on anything that has the possibilities of seeing some t1tt1es. Also before he left I installed AOL when he got back I uninstalled MOST of it. Certain things won?t leave like there "AOL Spyware Protection (Yeah Right)", AOL Tool Bar Error Messages are (Could Not Find Install.log File).

Also he managed to get some sort of MegaBob thing on there. Spy Bot found nothing out the ordinary in safe mode so I figured it's a Trojan. I ran Norton it found nothing (Norton?s ability to find and remove viruses is almost as good as my Labrador.) I'm usually pretty good with getting rid of crap like this but it has been a while (been sick). I want to Re-format soon but I need to figure out how to retrieve my Norton CD key. I install Norton on allot of my customers computers and I got a few extras that I installed on my 2 pc's.

Steps Taken !. Ran Disc Cleanup 2. Boot safe mode. 3 Ran updated Spybot and Norton.

Next Step. 4. Running Panda Soft Web AV.

Thanks in Advance

Vic

Hello ViciouS,

Before you do anything
1. Make sure that you have extracted HiJackthis to a folder that is isolated before removing anything, for hijackthis makes backups within the folder it is in.
2. Disable system restore, malware can come back through it.
3. Reboot into safe mode.
4. Close all browsers/windows explorer.

fix the following in hijackthis(kill the process in process viewer, if its there)
  • R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://goat.cx/
  • O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll
  • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AOL Spyware Protection] "C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\AOL Spyware Protection\AOLSP Scheduler.exe"
  • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Instant Access] rundll32.exe EGCOMSERVICE_1051.dll,InstantAccess
  • O8 - Extra context menu item: &AOL Toolbar search - res://C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML

I'm having a bigtime problems with this particular compter after opening an email with an attachment which was from a Motorola coporate person no less. There was a horrendous ammount of crap I was able to get rid of using adaware and spybot search and destroy, but the pop-ups are persistant and I can't get rid of them. Using Stopzilla trial vers. would prevent them, but it does not kill them.

Here is my log file:

i run spybot and adaware just about every day and run norton 2005 once a week. there are 57 processes running on my pc (i don't know how to get a copy of the taskmanager list of processes from xp) and occaisonally we have big system problems.

also, when i boot up the system i get the following error messages:

-- c\winows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running msdos and microsoft windows applications. choose 'close' to terminate the application

close or ignore

--could not load target dll ("c\program files\backweb\backweb client\6.2.3.66l\program\backweb.dll", error code 126

also i'm getting an error message from norton (may be unrelated), norton anti-virus 2005 does not support the repair feature-please uninstall and reinstall

once i click through these messages the pc will run, but i've had acouple of occaisons where it wouldn't boot up and it performs pretty poorly when on the net.

i'm not that comfortable going into the registry but would appreciate any assistance you can suggest. thanks in advance!!

hello cohenfive

-- c\winows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running msdos and microsoft windows applications. choose 'close' to terminate the application

close or ignore

Possible Solution

--could not load target dll ("c\program files\backweb\backweb client\6.2.3.66l\program\backweb.dll", error code 126

I will need your hijackthis log in order to show you how to easily remove this item from startup so you will not get this error message

norton anti-virus 2005 does not support the repair feature-please uninstall and reinstall

Possible Solution

HijackThis will show all the items in your startup, certain items of interest in registry, everything that is going on in IE, and all the system proccesses going on. Please post your HijackThis log by following the instructions in the OP and i will help you decide which of the proccesses might be bad and how to fix them.

If you want your hijackthis log looked at by him, you will have to email him if you want a response. His email address is quako33@comcast.net
You get a week's vacation for neffing? There's been plenty of nef threads in Distributed Computing and AFAIK no one has ever received a vacation for joining in.

Remove:
[*]Instant Access Adware

Followed your instructions. I did all the instructions in the link you gave me......
1. In the "linked" instructions i could not find the Regvalues i was told to delete.
2. I have an "E" in my task bar that says "Instant Access" when i put my pointer over it. When right clicked it says "Show Configuration and "Hide". When i click "show configuration" it has an icon thats yellow and says Megabobs next to it. It is in add remove programs, but when i hit change/remove it prompts me to DL a file called DialpassUninstall. exe.

Yeah right like im going to DL that!!!!!!!! hah!

Oh yeah help Google is stumped when i type in Megabobs removal so think if you figure it out your going to be the first to figure this one out.. Help

Oh yeah AOL Spyware Protection and AOL Toolbar are still stuck on my computer.

Here is my "new" Log

Sultan,

you need to remove

C:\DOCUME~1\ls0210\LOCALS~1\Temp\ICD1.tmp\svcmm32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EbatesMoeMoneyMaker0] "C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\EbatesMoeMoneyMaker0.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [USB controller] "C:\DOCUME~1\ls0210\LOCALS~1\Temp\ICD1.tmp\svcmm32.exe" /startup
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ap7zegf.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ap7zegf.exe /k

Those are the ones I would definitely remove, unless you installed the USD controller into your temp dir. I would be leery of apps that are run out of the temp dir or in the RunOnce (unless you personally installed/updated something)

Hey all,

Just broke down and installed Morpheus after hearing it's okay from someone else. I know for a fact that it also installed some crap on my computer. I'm going to post my log here, please let me know what's bad, I can spot a couple things right off the bat but I don't wanna miss anything. Here goes:

hello guys,

sorry for no reply, i was banned for a week for posting a "." (a form of "neffing") in this thread. So, i was unable to reply or read any PM or thread during that time. I will try to get back to these hijackthis logs in the near future, but they have accumulated a great deal during the time i was banned, so, please post a new hijackthis log, as your infection may have changed since you originally posted your log, that is, if you are one of the people that i have not given a solution too that posted after i was banned.

sorry i was not here to help you, but i did deserve the vacation. I should not have replied twice to one neff thread

Schandenfroh, thanks.

Updated Hijack this. I get random IE popups when using firefox. More wierdly, my CPU usage bumps up to 15 or 20 percent every few seconds. I have AAAAMON1.exe and some other things google has never heard of.

Hello laurenlex,

Before you do anything
1. Make sure that you have extracted HiJackthis to a folder that is isolated before removing anything, for hijackthis makes backups within the folder it is in.
2. Disable system restore, malware can come back through it.
3. Reboot into safe mode.
4. Close all browsers/windows explorer.

fix the following in hijackthis(kill the process in process viewer, if its there)
  • R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
