The most important thing in a vlogging setup, you NEED a front facing screen to see yourself in.

Laptop: using a laptop for vlogging might sound silly but laptops are arguably the most convenient way to vlog if you want a VERY LARGE screen to see yourself in.

Also laptops basically has a built-in tripod, you can put it on the ground, on a table, the passenger seat in a car, WHEREVER! and you can always see yourself very clearly.

Another thing, you can do all the video editing on the laptop, you don't need to transfer any files.

Just make sure the webcam is 1080p, below is a website showcasing laptops with a 1080p webcam.

https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/buying-guides/best-laptop-webcam

Smartphone: Most people nowadays has a smartphone with a front facing camera. But if you want high quality video, you should research the best "selfie" smartphones like below.

https://amateurphotographer.com/buying-advice/best-smartphone-for-selfies-selfie-camera-test/

https://www.androidauthority.com/best-phone-for-selfies-694396/

Action cameras: The GoPro 9 was the first GoPro with a front facing screen. And every edition after that had a front facing screen as well.
Some competition to the GoPro is the 'DJI Osmo action 4'

Action cameras are good if you want to make POV videos AND vlogging videos with just 1 device.

Professional video quality: if you want a vlogging camera with professional video quality you'll want either a DSLR camera or Mirrorless camera

Some budget options with a front facing screen is the Canon sl3(DSLR) and the Canon R50(Mirrorless)

Camcorder: people aren't manufacturing camcorders like they used to, most are either VERY low quality are VERY expensive, there's not a lot of "in-between" but if you really want a camcorder I would recommend the HC-V785 which goes for about $600

Is vlogging your latest interest?
Why does this seem like a copy/paste from ChatGPT?

(Just wanted to talk about this some more)

A laptop with a 8k webcam would be a dream for vlogging, but right now they only go to 4k, and are very expensive:

I would imagine that covid and video calls has significantly improved the quality of most laptop webcams.

Yes actually, I plan on recording myself working.

I wanted to record myself working out, but the gym I go to doesn't allow cameras.
Maybe you should start your own gym when you build the hotel/apartment building for 1994 people.

A "day in the life" blog about the trades is an interesting idea. It would need to be done correctly, and most importantly your boss would have to sign off, but if you can make that happen... We do need more people interested in getting dirty. We're a long way off from AI actually plumbing a house or properly putting down concrete in a weird location.

There isn't time for that nonsense. Work's gotta get done, and dicking around with a camera isn't getting work done.

I was thinking about either putting a laptop like in the corner of a room or on top of something.

Or I could use a GoPro to make pov videos.

Or both.

Just remember that your time at work belongs to your boss, so you'll need his approval and anyone on camera will need to give you permission. The chances of that are... low.

Your job probably won't allow you to record either.

In some cases workplaces may allow it but this is rare, either way you will need to ask and also ensure that it doesn't waste any time. Like if you're spending any amount of time to setup a shot or mess with the camera people will be very annoyed at you. TV shows like Holmes on Homes actually revolve around TV production and have a full crew but you doing it yourself is probably not going to fly for most companies.

Vlogging in 8k is silly, very few people with 8k screens out there, and probably half the people are watching on a 5-6" screen. A dedicated 8k camera would probably be better anyway, my field recorder has a 4k camera but it's essentially pointless to use 4k over 1080P on it, minimal quality improvement but much larger files.

8K is for posers. Real men use 12K:

I would just use a phantom high speed camera for vlogging, shoot in high speed at all times, that way if you need to slow down anything within the video you have the frames within the raw footage to do it. Shoot in 8k minimum but I recommend 16k.

I love how a guy trying to qualify as a construction worker thinks he is qualified to offer recommendations on anything.

That would be logical, but in fact, no. Webcams on laptops in say the Core i3-i5 / Ryzen 3 / 5 bracket are as crappy as they have been for the last ten years, IIRC 0.3MP is typical. Not that megapixel figures are terribly helpful either, considering that my Microsoft HD-3000 webcam is a 720p webcam just like the Logitech C270 I typically sell, but the latter has a much clearer image.

IIRC the webcam on my ancient Dell XPS 9343 laptop (Broadwell i7 processor) is pretty decent, but I'm pretty sure the customer I bought it from paid a pretty penny for it back when it was new.
