Can anyone verify that 1. This is the GOTY edition, and 2. That it does include 2 licenses? I didn't see any of that info posted on amazon.com when i clicked the link.

PONTIFEX: what didn't you like? give us some detail pls.

It's boring. The quests are boring and tedious sometimes. The playerbase sucks - so immature and unhelpful (worse than WoW, even though i didn't think WoW's was that bad). Takes too long to level up even though its supposed to be fast. Combat is boring.

While I realize that these claims are largely subjective, I think it is crazy to say you don't level fast enough. You can hit the level cap in a couple of days, especially if you party with higher level characters. Note that you level a new character much faster if he starts in Factions or Nightfall -- you can start encountering higher level enemies very quickly compared to Prophesies.

Also, the combat is pretty intense compared to other MMOs I have played. Reaction time and target speed / management are hugely important, especially in interrupt heavy builds. Of course if all you have done is lower-level PvE you could probably coast through with minimal skill -- that sort of thing is much more crucial in the (very robust and competitive) PvP component.

I thought most of the quests in Prophecies were pretty fun actually, and once you had a good set of skills to work with, the missions were a blast with a good party, especially a lot of the higher ones. The alliance battles introduces in Factions is a lot of fun, but the campaign is somewhat lacking. Nightfall has a better campaign, and the heroes are good to have, since they can cut down on the need for henchman in a pinch.

Different strokes for different folks, but I've probably sold a few dozen dozen people on Guild Wars because of the MMO functionality and the low system requirements. I think it's an awesome franchise, and I'm looking forward to Eye of the North and GW2 in '09

Heh, yeah, the guy doesn't know what the heck is the talking about. In Faction I can level a char to level 20 in a day, and spend my time to actually do quests and missions, and learn about different skills rather than trying to grind. And like you said, learning different skills/combo/timing/energy management like interrupt, shut down is as much fun as the mission itself. Well, of course if the guy only knows how to play W/M, I can see why he thinks combat is boring.

I have spent ~100 on all three campaign and it offers more bang for the buck than any other game I've ever owned. The fun for me is really trying different class combo, playing with friends, and enjoying nicely done graphic in different missions/areas. Tried WoW demo and delete it less than a week. Graphic just feel amateurish compared to GW at 1920x1200.

Back to the topic, $20 bucks for Prophecies is definitely a great deal. It has the most content out of the three campaigns, and it will give u countless hours of fun, especially if you know ppl who also play this.

Meh, I've played Guild Wars, and never really got into it. This is a good price though.

I've played this game on and off since the beta. Good game overall, but I don't see much replay value in it. It gets boring after you go through a campaign with a couple characters.

If you're a new player, Prophecies is OK, but I think Nightfall is a better way to go. Heroes make pugs unnecessary in all quests/missions except for the tougher ones. Prophecies towns are deserted except for a few, Nightfall definitely has more people in it... and has a more appropriate learning curve. Prophecies was way too easy.

It didn't say anywhere on the website for me as well but it is the GOTY edition and came with 2 licenses and 14-day free trial licenses for:

  • Auto Assault
    City of Heroes
    City of Villains
    Guild War Expansions
    Lineage II
I got the one from Amazon's stock and not from its partner vendors (which will come up if you do a search).

Indeed, many people fail to note this, the developers do not even consider it an MMORPG (they call it a "competitive online role-playing game"). One did not pay a fee for Diablo 2, why should one think that one would have to pay a monthly fee for a game like this?

because to keep our economy running, consumers need more monthly charges to achieve their -1% savings rates.

I've been playing this game since it came out (~2,000 hours). I've found prophecies to be the easiest out of the three (especially with the release of Nightfall and heroes). Factions has some of the best skills in the game plus the Assassin can kick some major butt (look for videos on youtube of one soloing a level 30 boss). Nightfall is the hardest and I think is the better story line. Prophecies just has too many unfinished story lines. If you want a challenging game skill wise try fighting around at the end in the Realm of Torment, Underworld, or Fissure of Woe.

I've done just about everything in the game and the only reason I really play anymore is to help people out who are new to the game and to help guild mates with missions and quests and whatnot. Best way to get help in the game and meet people is to join a guild. I know ours just recently reached our maximum (99 people) but we have 8 other guilds in our alliance so it's basically close to 200 people all together.

To reiterate:
You ordered one from Amazon not a partner.
It is a Game of the Year Edition.
It has two different and full Licences for the Game of the Year Edition.

Do we have a second on this?

The last thing I need is another account but if it for real, then you and a buddy can go in on this and both get the GOTY Edition for $10 each. That's a smoking deal. Not to mention I can ask ANET where my second licence is, as I purchased a GOTY Edition and only got one key code.

Putting this back up to try and get to the bottom of this...

I just bought the GotY edition at Best Buy and it did NOT come with 2 lic keys. There were 14 day trial keys, but that's all.

What else about this makes it a GotY edition?

people who don't like WoW's community, don't even bother with GW. It's 100x worse.

That sounds like a bummer for you, I've had very few problems. I've been playing for 2+ years and at most have put 6 or 7 people on ignore.
