So I havent seen anybody talk about this but it looks like Guild Wars 2 may be getting its first expansion which hopefully we will see more info on this weekend at PAX. I personally am really excited for this as I think its one of the better MMOs out there but definitely got dull over time.

So what are some things you guys would like to see from this expansion?

Also the game will be on sale this weekend for 75% off which brings it to $10

Hard to say what I would look forward to in an expansion. GW2 simply became a grind fest for the ever expanding equipment stat creep, with each new one requiring yet another item that you needed to grind away collecting (either be it a daily/monthly drop like coins, or the current laurels, or running endless fractals trying for the elusive random drop of a shard...).

This was exactly what the game was not suppose to be like. The original concept was that there was not going to be equipment that kept getting more and higher stats than previous equipment. The only "grind" would be for crafting cosmetic equipment changes, but that the stats of the items would still be the same. If you want that lightning hammer, well, it was going to take some time grinding the components you needed, but it would be just as good as any other hammer...

I am looking forward to an expansion as this is one of the few games I can back and play from time to time. I am not expecting a whole lot of changes, but I am hoping for a new character class potentially and a good story with the content. In terms of game play, its so different for anyone, as it is in most games, that you either like a game or don't. I am not sure what, if anything, will change but I don't imagine it will be anything big/significantly different.

I'm trying to remember why I didn't like GW2. I never played a GW game, but picked it up when I got bored with WoW a few years ago. I was blown away. The graphics were great, the combat was pretty awesome, i remember getting to I think...maybe...level 20 or so on some melee characters. And I hate Melee! I did find the fantasy bit a little too fancy for me, with those azura's or whatever. It was a bit wierd. If I remember right I even paid some real money for Abyss dye or something, was into it for about two weeks.

I think it was when I realized that...all gear was the same? Or something along those lines? I got really pissed off and quit. I mean, I don't understand a game like that where everyone at the end is the same. Maybe I misread what the gear was all about, and I'm not really into PvE. But if I'm going to be putting in that kind of time to level a character, I want some sort of benchmark to be based off of. Even if I'm not the top of that ladder....

Was a good game before I knew that though.

Well, if it's like the first GW, all the gear has a hard cap on stats, after that it's just skin variation. I kind of liked that, made it less grindy and made pvp balance easier. I really liked the first game and sunk an embarrassing number of hours into it but I'm not sure I want to bite on Gw2 even at $10. I've heard a lot of people who liked the first one were disappointed with this one, and I'm not sure anything MMO-ish (particularly one that's more swords/magic/dragons/etc.) will hold my interest anymore.

I'm pretty excited about this, a new profession should at least keep me interested long enough to justify the price of the expansion. Everything else they're adding should be gravy. The character specialization sound interesting, so my already existing characters can be further upgraded without invalidating their current gear. With that said, the game caters to the casual crowd so I doubt I'll stick around long.

There's definitely no stat creep in GW2, the "Ascended gear" they introduced was only a measly 5% increase in stats over the best-in-slot gear that was available at launch. Sure, it allowed you to slot Agony resistance, but that was only useful for one dungeon in the game and even then it was only necessary for reaching the highest levels of that dungeon.
