I unlocked all the skills I wanted for my build, was max level, and had the best equipment within a week, as well as beat the "story" so there was nothing left to do in PvE.

I played PvP, won most of the time. Our guild have some guild hall thing. I don't really remember because it was so long ago, but there was nothing to do, so I quit. Its not my fault the game was so lacking at launch.

Plus what I really didn't like was the core mechanics, which wouldn't change in expansions anyway. If you don't like the base game, there is no reason to get the expansions.

It wasn't really an MMORPG without any persistance at all. If you call GW an MMORPG, then you have to call pretty much FPS an MMOFPS.

I was just inputting my opinion nothing to be so upset over Zin. Not everyone has to like the games you do 100%.

but it's not even first person.

it's a third person game--so that already doesn't work.

nah, you don't have to like it. Just saying that you probably only experienced 25% of it. BUT, the core, as you say, really never changed much from Prophecies. collect skills, work on build, go farm shit.

very grindy. You have to like that sort of thing to really get into the PvE. Personally, I have zero interest in PvP. People say it was/is? really good for GW, but that means nothing to me.

Yes, I played almost exclusively PVP, since the PVE was downright terrible. While the PVP was more interesting, it just didn't have enough variation in skillsets and the lack of builds in regards to stats/armor just made it boring. Almost everyone was the same. There was barely any variation match to match.

Remember, I quit after less than a month, so I never played with any expansion content. Even if the expansions redeemed the game, it was just too little too late IMO.

I really enjoyed PvE. One of the few games that allowed you to solo PvE.

I can not wait for this game! Looks like they're trying things a bit differently in terms of classes. No Tanks, DPS, or Healers!? We'll see how that works!

Considering that in Guild Wars you don't already have that with the exception of Shadow Form tanking, I would say pretty well.

While some of those ideas sound really cool, I fear that they'll be really difficult to implement well.

For example, the removal of designated tanks and healers. While that sounds interesting, there's a reason why it's a staple in MMO's and RPGs. What decides who the enemy your group is fighting attacks? Is it random? Is it whoever is doing the most damage? Neither way would really work well.

In Guild Wars there is no tank - the enemy will attack the members with least armor and health first.

You answer that by shutting down the enemy, throwing party wide buffs, wards, using warriors to body block, etc.

I really enjoyed PvE. One of the few games that allowed you to solo PvE.

I've you seen the 7 hero party update?

Dumac-
There's no way you played through the pve game in less than a week unless you got rushed, which means you didnt play it.

You say there was no variation on pvp, but you werent interested enough to unlock skills to try other builds..

it's fine you didnt like the game enough to play it, but it's obvious from your comments you have no clue about the scope of the game.

It's a particlurly good value now, since the Trilogy is sometimes only $20.

Haha, that statement alone tells everyone here who was a fan of GW PvP all they need to know about why it wasn't the game for you. BTW, if you got to level 20(max), you finished the tutorial section of GW, not the game =D

I'm really sad they've taken the dedicated healing classs out, playing monk in PvP was easily the most fun part of GW, I almost get the feeling I won't like GW2 as much without a dedicated healing class to play.

yep.

but from what I've read, the PvE parts in GW2, save particular dungeons and such, are non-instanced. Not totally sure how a feel about that--I would tend to leave my dude standing around in the middle of nowhere for hours while I was away.

I wouldn't want some dingleberry dropping up on me and ganking my +2 ogre-slaying knife while I was away.

You know I'll be there Zin. Was a good time.

The video has my interest. I like that you can dodge attacks, and the fact that it rewards those with good hand-eye coordination (apparently) with being able to get into optimal position to unleash more powerful attacks. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this game now.

I tried GW 1 and never really got into it, but I think I was playing WoW at the time. I'm still not sold on the "MMO" aspect of this "MMORPG" seeing as it's hardly massively multiplayer, but it definitely looks like something I'd be willing to try upon release. I think I was just a little too late/in the wrong state of gaming mind (I was more of a PvE guy) when GW1 came out.

This game looks absolutely amazing, I can't wait. Mind you, I've never played an MMO before although I did try out Dungeons & Dragons Online when it went free to play, I was bored to tears with how slowly my character leveled up... so MMO's just might not be for me. But I will be buying GW2 on release day anyway, this one just might be what I've been waiting for.

tank is dependent on aggro. of course they will go after the weakest person hanging out in aggro. That's why the little squishy people (casters) need to stay the fuck out of aggro and let the tanks absorb the punishment. most successful teams would need a tank-healer-casters. you could often supplement a tank with a nec running minion-heavy build, though.

meh. You've got to knwo that is BS> people will play it how they want to. I'm quite sure there will be a class favored for healing above all others, and people will soon be bitching at you for running that class and not healing others, hah.

I quite enjoyed monk, but you really get sick of trying to heal idiots that just can't take care of themselves--overextending way away from the party and out of your range, bitching that you let them die. yet, you are the only one that can res them. well, too fucking bad, man.

I never played guild wars 1, but this video made me sorta interested in gw2.

I'm a pvp lover, and since its the only MMO that looks like it will have awesome pvp that effects the world I will prob try it out.

Never understood why people bought a mmo for pve only (cough wow).

I never played WoW...so you're telling me that South Park episode that had the PvP situation was just dramatic license?

New class announced, Engineer:

Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 fans, did you love the Commando class? Were you disappointed that it was all an elaborate joke? Did you love the idea of detonating bombs, flinging grenades, and setting mines in Guild Wars 2?

Well, this is going to be a good day for you, because ArenaNet has announced the seventh profession: the Engineer. While it's not the Commando class per se, the Engineer is described as "a master of mechanical mayhem" and looks to be the class that will fulfill all of your most explosive gameplay wishes.

Ready to check it out in depth? We've got five skill videos right in a row and a rundown of the Engineer's abilities, so follow along after the jump and let's take a look!

Well the South Park episode obviously wasn't very much like the real game, but to say there's no PvP in WoW is a massive understatement. There are battlegrounds, arena's, world PvP, and on PvP servers anyone of the opposing faction can be attacked at any time. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's there.

But not REAL pvp. It has no world meaning to the gameplay. WoW has what people call cookie cutter pvp, its a after thought in the game. It was not designed for it from the start.

Arena, battlegrounds and just distractions from pve, they are preset fighting places. Pretty uninspiring. The world pvp is the same, its set areas, even on pvp servers it does not have any real meaning other than just killing other people. PvP games with a purpose is what pvp is all about.

I truly good designed MMOG will have pvp/pve intertwine as one in the gameplay. Not many have pulled it off because they focus on one or the other only.

Making a game that makes you pvp without you realizing you are makes for a truly epic experience, fighting to take a vantage point in the a game to control entry to a pve dungeon for example is pretty rewarding experience. Killing 500 hogs in a dungeon for loot with friends is boring.
