I remember playing the first one a lot when I first got it. Eventually though, I lost interest for one reason or another. If they keep the same no-monthly fee thing, I will probably buy this.

OK, this looks good. And I thought I was done with MMOs.

Will they enable jumping in this version?

One of our priorities in developing Guild Wars 2 has been to make the simple act of moving around and interacting with the world an enjoyable experience for our players. We often refer to this as introducing "joy of movement" into the game. This means being able to jump and swim freely, but it also translates directly into combat.

Looks good, I wanted to buy Guild Wars 1 some time ago but never did. I may just buy this one.

I could never get into the movement of Guild Wars, killed it for me, this sounds promising.

Yeah I played GW1 for about 3 years and it was awesome but I did literally about everything in PvE mode...and I couldn't invest enough time to really get my worth in PvP.

but for F2P it was very good value...better value and worth than any game I've played to date.

Yea I played it on and off for a few years. Didn't do any PvP except the few times you needed to do it in missions. It was a pretty fun game and it had a great art style that made the game look good even though it was an old game.

I can't wait until GW2 comes out, I got in on GW back in the beta, and have been playing it off and on since. It was great watching the game evolve, and I really want to get into GW2 in the same way.

So phasing will the thing in this? I wonder how multiplayer will this be, phasing gets tricky when you mix multiple people.

I absolutely loved playing GW beta, both the limited PVE and the really really fun PVP.

Unfortunately, when the full version came out, WoW had been released for a couple of months and I was addicted to that (and working 50-60 hrs a week as GM). I played it a little, and then everyone went back to WoW.

Without spending the time PVE-ing, I didn't really stand a chance in the PVP :[

GW2 looks fantastic so far. I think arenanet is the only company trying to make their own MMO now instead of copying WoW. I've been keeping up with GW2 info and the new quest system and combat systems all sound great. The combat definitely sounds like it will be less automatic and require more involvement on the players part, and the questing sounds way more friendly to both groups and solo people, as well as sounding way more interesting than the quest systems we have now where nothing you do impacts the world you're playing in.

Then of course my fav thing about GW is the lack of level/gear grinding. According to arenanet it's going to be easy to achieve good gear and max level in GW2, so that leaves more of the game to play at the higher levels with good gear instead of continuously trying to get better gear. I think this is a great idea because they can design a lot of dungeons to play through for fun and challenge instead of making a tiered raiding system that focuses 99% around getting new gear to get to the next level.

So far the class videos look great too, I've noticed the have 8 silhouettes in the main screen for classes and so far the 3 classes they have revealed are classic classes. I'm personally hoping all 8 classes stay the same, but mostly I just want them to put ritualists into GW2 because they're one of my fav classes from any MMO I've played. All of the skills are more user controlled though it seems, like active blocking and being able to charge your attacks to different levels. This is what I've been looking for in a MMO, a more in depth combat system that isn't button mash happy like WoW.

Just to add anyone who is really into GW might be interested to know they released a book two weeks ago called ghosts of ascalon that bridges the story between eye of the north and GW2, I picked it up but haven't started reading it yet. I also picked up the art of GW2 book which is cool and has a lot of cool concept art (I've always loved GW's art direction) but I understand most people wouldn't want to spend money on that.

GW2 will probably be the first game I buy at release, at full price, for about 5 years now.

One thing I saw that was pretty awesome was that if a elementalist drops a ring of fire on the ground, rangers behind the fire will shoot fire arrows through it. How stuff like that can help out your party, make their attacks more powerful is pretty awesome. I played nuker mostly in GW1, but aside from laying down heavy attacks, there wasn't much that I could do to really help out the team.

If only it had real pvp.

What is "real pvp"? You mean the fact that you're actually killing other players instead of... uhh... wait. What?

Guild Wars has one of the best PvP systems in MMOs to date in the fact that it's nearly all skill based instead of being mostly gear based like everything else.

Yeah I generally played as a axe/hammer warrior, and the idea of being able to charge attacks to different levels seems like nice way to make the combat more interactive. They've also mentioned things like an elementalist being able to drop flaming swords for other classes to use, I think the context based weapon/skill system really opens up a lot of new possibilities as opposed to the traditional system. In most MMO's a flaming sword would just give you flaming attacks or a DPS boost but in GW2 it's going to give you a new set of skills since your first 5 skills are weapon based.

Also I can't wait to see what warriors with greatswords look like, that was something I always hoped for in GW1.

I have to agree with phobic too, the pvp in GW1 was better than any full fledged MMO I've played, and the skill system made for a lot of fun trying new builds and combos all the time.

Real PvP as in having a purpose. Killing other players? Might as well put in arenas. Killing players and not having a purpose is called "cookie cutter" pvp. Put in just as a afterthought and no real direction.

Make it have a purpose, like true pvp should be, effects outcome of things in game. For example control a certain area and gain access to certain pvE dungeons or areas. Stuff like that. Just to say a game has pvp and balanced classes is not enough anymore.

Any MMO can put in a PvE storyline, but putting in a Pve and PvP story line makes for the perfect MMO. Few have done it, and its the holy grail on MMO people look for.

Well Guild Wars PvP is arena based so... it's already there. The purpose in this sense is specifically kill other players. The game was designed for guild vs guild/team vs team battles so that's all they were trying to do.

I haven't read too much on what they are trying to do with Guild Wars 2 but I expect it to be similar, and I'm fine with that personally.

How many MMOs out there would you consider to have "real" PvP? How many of those are more gear based than skill based? That's what I like about the first Guild Wars. Gear matters but if you pick the right skills and know how to use them, you can dominate... to a point.

Awesome I liked the concept of GW and played it a little at a friends house but was too into WoW at the time. I'll definitely look this up when it comes out.

Eh if you actually read about GW2 you will learn they plan on having open world PVP areas that affect the game world, so maybe it's a game you would be interested in. Or you could just bash it without knowing anything about it, I guess that works too...
