I'm unclear about the 2-2-2-5 settings you're refering to. I'm running an ASUS OC board which is an Intel. How might I set these settings in BIOS?

I get freeze ups followed by dots on the screen, racing across. I think it's my crap video card. It's a Leadtek 6800GT. Should I get an NV Silencer? Are those hard/risky to install? Thanks.

check your mobo manual, but there should be an option like "advanced" or CPU or DDR or something similar. You'll find a whole bunch of memory timing settings like "CAS, RAS, something something something" 3 of the settings are obviously lower, and 1 is always higher. you have to check the specifications on your memory to see what the correct settings are, as it's also possible they follow normal spec and are detected as such and automatically configured properly.

looking on the internet searching for "change memory timings" or "configure memory timings" should help you find exactly what you're looking for, especially if you include in the search your mobo model #.

don't get the silencer unless you are absolutely sure heat is the issue. if you can play doom 3 and half life 2 without the same freezing/dots/etc, chances are heat is not the cause of your problem, and you'll be throwing $40 out the window.

Well I fixed my GW problem. It turns out, the game doesn't like normal ram in a duel channel slot. I had 4 512's in and 2 of the slots were duel channel. I removed the ram and everything was fixed. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars Support Team! The drivers you have are fine. It sounds like your video card could be overheating. We've been contacted by several customer's with the same issue (despite other games they play not causing the card to overheat). Please try removing the side of the computer case and point a house fan in the general direction of the case. If this does not resolve the issue, try going into the Guild Wars Options and slide the visual quality all the way down to the left, in addition go into Advanced and turn off Post Process Effects. You may also want to make sure the fans on the motherboard and video card are running properly and clean of dust.

Side of my case has been off forever, and i bought a can of air last week to clean out my heatsinks.

Is it time to think of (gasp) ati? are ati users experiencing simlart probs, only YOU can say. please respond to this thread if you have any input.

I'm using ATI (Radeon 9800XT) and I had these exact same problems when I got Guild Wars a month ago. I'm on water cooling with an adjustable radiator fan, I just turned up the radiator fan speed and stopped overclocking the 9800XT and voila, no more problems. Water temp went from 41C down to 35C and the game has never crashed once ever since. Fan noise is a bit annoying when I don't have headphones on.

I did contact NCSoft tech support and they suggested I also install new motherboard AGP drivers, that seemed to help my situation a little as well.

Good luck -

Just to get back to this. Out of the 3 day weekend I crashed once prolly playing 12+ hours a day. Havent sence though 4 ish hours per week night and a long day today. I accended my second character today. yay me!! What changed? have house fan blowing on 6800gt card and dont run anvir in sys tray. Something made a difference. With the mem probs cropping up and the overheating of vid cards, does it strike anyone else this might be benchmark potencial?
