Hmm guess I didn't look around enough, but all of the movies I've seen people are using greatswords or swords. That's a pretty cool aspect of the new skill system though, it allows them to make really diverse classes based on what weapon you want to use.

The yogscasts are decent, although it is a pain most beta press dudes seem to have no background on guild wars, so loads of mistakes and misconceptions going around.

The game seems to be shaping in everything I wanted to improve from guild wars-

I guess the last test for me is the in game shop, what they sell and their prices.

Plus, they're playing the game the wrong way... they keep thinking it's WoW - standing still just unloading skills. Ugh, clueless. GW2 allows you to use skills while moving, I remember seeing this video awhile back (link to follow) and getting excited about the game, but watching those Yogscasters and the game looks positively dreadful - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAh1OHBI4uM

One weekend to play a complex game that is quite different from standard games in a weekend isn't probably easy.

I've seen worse.

But mostly people are just set on WoW mentality - one guy doing the Ascalon dungeon kept saying that he didn't understand how he had got so many drops, didn't know if it was because other people weren't getting any loot at all, that there were no rolls for loot, etc.

Yes, there is no rolls for loot! Everyone gets their own loot from every mob. Like this must have been a thing the devs kept saying for a couple years and these "press" guys still have no idea.

Additionally the game seemed a bit too easy, probably to allow people to cover different things and hopefully the retail version will require a bit more.

Skill animations, customization, scaling, etc, seems really good.

Probably next beta when you get players in, we will have access to a different perspective.

Almost all of the dungeon run throughs have 2-4 Devs in them. I know in the Akamikeb dungeon run the Devs were doing the heavy lifting splitting the healing between the two of them and the press were told to focus on staying alive more than anything.

As far as the solo and dynamic content being too easy, the hearts seem pretty easy but the full blown dynamic events seem much more difficult. The Yogscast has a decent showing in their Charr video part 3 and Norn Part 2 (I think part 2 on the Norn). In the Charr them and about 4 other people are attempting to clear out the tomb from the Charr starting area (After they were out of the tuttorial theres a dynamic event there). They were having a bit of trouble, challenging but not so difficult it was impossible to do. Same with the Ice Drake Broodmother in Part 2 of their Norn video.

I think the balance looks pretty good. "Quests" (The heart things) look pretty easy, dynamic events look challenging but not so hard they require coordination, Story mode dungeons look difficult and require a bit of coordination to complete, I haven't seen the explorable mode from the Press Event but there was 1 run and it took several hours with all 5 members on voice chat which makes me think it will be difficult enough to fill the "hardcore Pve" crowds need for long difficult content.

The only group I don't think will be happy are "World First" raiders and griefers. PvPers should be ecstatic and the rest of the PvE crowd from casuals to normal mode raiders should have a spot.

watching the guardian video, finally.

damn, not a single class in this game looks boring. Though I wonder if, in the end, the hybrid caster/mele/range in every class will make any individual class a near identical play style to any other. Either way, Ranger actually looks fun, for once.

I'm also guilty of not reading into the details. Do the various races actually have inherent abilities or buffs that will lend their use towards specific classes for each race, or is it just a starting location and story difference?

In terms of originality of the skill animations, the worse I've seen is the ranger with both bows.

Each race has racial skill - humans can turn into avatar ofmelandru and pray to other gods, norn have their spirit transformations, charrs can call the warband, etc.

well, I saw "jumping puzzle" and immediately D:

but after watching half the video, it simply looks like some extra exploration material you can do, if you so desire. Not like an RPG type pattern and floor puzzle that you'd get in Dragon Age (I hate when those things pop up in RPGs), but more a 3rd person platforming mechanic.

As long as it doesn't effect grouping and fights, then whatever.

Though...it does seem to be a push towards the console crowd.... :hmm:

Can't view the video, but the 'platforming' available in SWTOR is actually quite amusing. It's basically relegated to datacron hunting and simply being able to jump to silly places but it's more fun than you might think.

Just bought/installed Guild Wars 1 Complete last night. I will probably start with Prophecies, as this is my first time through, I'm not in a rush, and just want to enjoy the content. Anybody have any suggestions on a good race (are there races?) and profession for a first time through? I'm well versed in MMOs, but never have played GW, and know very little about it. I would like a very self-sufficient class, as I will most likely be soloing the vast majority of the time. I imagine I could get a friend of mine to start playing too.

It's not your typical MMO. There are no races, and no crafting professions. Your only choice is primary and secondary class (and you can even change your seconday at a whim once you hit a certain point in the story line).

Most the classes are relatively self sufficient, and you can bring henchmen and heroes along with you to flesh out your group.

Soloing still means a full party of heroes/henchman.

Prophecies is very slow paced, Factions is very fasted paced and Nightfall is a bit middle of the road but introduce heroes which might be overwhelming for new players.

Only humans in GW1.

For new playersI would avoid would Monk (pretty boring when you babysitting NPCs), mesmer, assassin and dervish (all of these 3 might be better enjoyed once you have a better feel for the game).

All the rest should be decent. Paragons and Rangers being ranged physical characters are probably the easy to stay alive with. Necromancers and Ritualists are more based on having minions and spirits, respectively. Elementalist is the standard mage and the Warrior is a front line hard hitting profession.

I got an email with a special thank you to everyone who signed up for beta.

Arenanet Email said:
In just over 48 hours, 1 million players signed up for a chance to participate in upcoming Guild Wars 2 beta events. Although we wish we could invite everyone who signed up to playtest the beta, we do have a limited number of slots available for each event and not everyone will be able to play. We know you're very eager for us to send out beta invitations, and we will be sending these confirmations out shortly.

In the meantime, we've prepared a little thank you for all those who applied - a brand new video that features never-before-seen in-game footage.

Just head over to the Guild Wars 2 Facebook page and "Like" us to watch the video! Thanks for your support, and we'll see you in game!

From the way its worded it sounds like Beta invites are going out either today or in the next few days. Either that or I did not get an invite and I got a thank you for trying on this one.

I didn't think the video was that interesting. I was thinking it would be some big reveal of some kind but its just regular footage.

I really like this video about their impressions of the beta.

http://www.gamebreaker.tv/video-game-shows/guild-wars-video/guildcast-guild-wars-show/ww-killer/

I've only recently started to follow guild wars 2 more closely, as I see no point following really close before half the stuff are decided and the others are subject to changes, but every time I see/read it it is better and better.

And anyone else seen the WvWvW map and shouted "Supreme Commander!!!!!"?

That thing is more oversized than the spam emails.

I love gamebreaker. I make sure to watch Guildcast every week it's always best when Mikeb is on it. Also check out their TWIMMO show it has a lot of good info on other MMO's you may not have heard of and the week after the press beta that's all they talked about. It's like an MMO news show.
