oh, interesting.

Just have to see what happens with the economy, I guess. Dyes were always a decent part of that in GW1, so it looks like they won't be here. :\

I might be wrong but I don't think economy is the main concern of DW2, even though you have action house and mail pigeons.

I don't think he's saying you're trolling on the basis of DX9. Because it has been announced to support DX10 but not built on it. I think GW2 is hoping that a lot of the GW players would transition over to GW2 without feeling a need to upgrade their current systems. I believe he says your trolling from the fact that you announced you have a key and isn't going to be playing the beta for this weekend. This is technically the last closed beta for the game. After this all the pre-purchase people will be able to join every beta which will have a major impact on things. From that point on people can't feel special about getting a key anymore.

Precisely, I'm jealous that you got a key and the idea you won't be playing makes it even worse. To the point where your post seemed antagonistic (trolling) to me. I have no doubt that it's a DX9 game, and didn't expect anything more. I'm actually of the opinion that even GW1 still looks decent, so GW2 could only be better.

The most disappointing thing to me in the cash shop is the +50% EXP. I dislike it because people will obviously have a huge PvE advantage if they have the money. I'm assuming those people who reach the higher level faster are going to put a price premium on every uncommon item they manage to come in contact with. Which mean early economic price gouging. Just gotta wait it out or farm, which is most likely what I'm going to do.

Why?

There are vendors every 5 levels selling max stats equipment for coin and karma.

Additionally is 50% xp on kills. Most XP will come from events and quests.

Guilds will be able to use influence for this

+5% Exp from Events for 3 Days - Improves guild experience gain by 5% for 3 days.

5% may seem small compared to 50% but it is events and not kills, for 3 days and free.

I like in-game economies. It adds another dimension that very, very many people tend to enjoy. It's not necessary, of course, for any given player experience, but it will develop on its own, I'm sure.

I wouldn't take it as trolling. Had I gotten an invite and the Beta was scheduled for next weekend, I wouldn't be able to play, either. Even if I wanted to.

No reason to get butthurt over it. :\

There are always going to be those people that are going to spend all day grinding/farming etc. I just don't like the idea that they can spend money to make their grinding easier. GW has always been a more casual game to me and just having that is kind of moving away from that for me.

But it seems irrational especially now that I think about it if they're going to implement the gear every 5 level. But I know someone is going for the "I got level 80 first" crown for sure.

Someone is always going to go for that, no matter how easy or hard the leveling is. Nothing much you can do about it. As long as it's not negatively affecting your game play don't sweat it.

The thing is grinding won't take you anywhere - you won't be able to kill a mob faster or smash another player with the grind.

A guy play 24/7 would always take the crown - I'm sorry but a person like that isn't working to pay is bills so someone is paying so that he can be playing.

And additionally that lvl80 first crown will be useless. Before hitting max level was a question on time spent, now it is a question of money and time spent.

"I'm ubergosu since I reach lvl 80 first!".
"Yeah, you are a no lifer that uses your mum credit card".

This isn't WoW or SWTOR - lvl and gear don't make your more powerful since the content will always scale and there will be tough content at all level - look at Totalbiscuit's footage of a dungeon designed for lvl35.

yeah, I am super excited about that.

4 developers + 1 getting constantly owned at mid-game dungeon.

Though, a lot of game devs actually aren't particularly good at even their own games lol, I know that's been a pretty persistent annoyance in the WoW community

yeha, that's true.

Could be that they are forcefully trying to push the play style that they want the game to be (no tanks, dodge, rotating or whatever), and it will only take a handful of players to discover the more effective play styles.

Not sure how it has worked with other MMO, but GW has a history of devs constantly nerfing play styles that have been popular among players, but didn't subscribe to the desired style of the developers. :\

I get that when gold farming and bots become a problem, of course, and exploitative farming, but nerfing certain farms (ecto several years ago; even though it was still time-consuming to farm it effectively) simply because some people really like to sit around and buy low, sell high (what is wrong with that?) or team builds and individual builds simply because they don't want you to play that way....is a bit obnoxious.

The last issue never really bothered me that much, though. Sure, it's annoying at first that your favorite current build is suddenly useless, but there is always another one waiting in the wings to be crafted, so it does help to keep play from stagnating.

ANet events are usually timed to start ~10 or 12pm PST on Fridays, iirc.

And:
You bastard!

Just finished EotN, off to Factions and then Prophecies!

I think I got spoiled with the EotN quests though, so much better than regular quests...

Did not get time to check anything really besides first quest i got, it looks really polished game. Except the graphics are a dog, i don't think this game likes SLI, because on GTX SLI 580 with everything at max it was hovering around 40fps.

Naturally its prob just one setting messing up or no driver for it yat to take advantage of it.

But combat was impressive though.

I'm really enjoying it so far. My only gripe is the camera movement. I find myself holding down the right click during every battle and its annoying to deal with. I hope they implement an option to set the free cam mode as a default setting and the pointer as the right click.

Yah it was confusing at first. They got a free look in mouse settings, did not check to see what it does though.

are you playing in 1st person or 3rd person? it shouldn't be too big a deal in 3rd person, pulled far out.

From what I gather of your description, this sounds the same as how it works in GW1, but it's meant to be played in 3rd person (I always wondered why the even allow 1st person).

With large mobs, you shouldn't need to have to pan so often if you pull out a bit and use the minimap effectively, as well as the auto-lock on target ("c," right?--or "tab" to cycle targets)

Isn't it against NDA to even tell anyone you're in the beta. I thought Anet was very specific about this no one outside ofpress is allowed to say they are in it.
