I got my necro up to level 12 and a warrior to 6 and a few other classes to 5. Necro is pretty ridiculous like other people are saying, but I think I had more fun with warrior. They have so many weapon combos plus I like their class mechanic.

I'm really going to have to try one out. Aequitas (Bambi) and I were venturing around the south western part of Kessex (this where we found the well-armed steer dropping leet green rifles.)

There is an event there with a bandit-controlled fort: kill, break their weapon caches and turrets, and HOLY HELL another ridiculous giant boss. he's a golem foremen type thing. We were hangin out here for a while, just trying to get to the heart vendor, but kept aggroing a few bandits and they kept murdering us, our armor mostly gone by that point. we rejoined this group that was still there, farming the boss I suppose, which we had beaten earlier.

All of us were getting destroyed by single bandits--mostly because of the insane spawn. once someone is up, and we are able to start reviving everyone, the respawn kicks in, on top of where you are, and everyone is dead instantly. however, there was one norn warrior who was just soloing all of those guys like a pro. For all of the anti mele talk that I was hearing, this greatsword warrior was just mowing everything down, one by one, sometimes two at a time, I think. So there must be a point when the class becomes more than useful. it was quite entertaining, really, just watching the one player in the entire game that simply would not die, haha.

It is always risky talking about balance based on low level experience or just short time to actually delve into the game.

Between attributes, items, weapon skills, weapon swaps, utility and elite skills, traits, sigils/runes/jewels, etc, it seems like the game has great depth.

And a low level warrior can always go buy a rifle/longbow.

very much this. And outside of a game like ...damn, that space one...totally blanking here.... I doubt there are few, if any, MMOs with this steep of a learning curve (overcoming the difficulty).

The good thing is that nothing felt like a grind to me--but that is more important for late game mechanics. Since you don't have typical questing, and because everything is difficult, you can't simply pump out cupcake experience gains. the xp rewards are good enough, anyway, and the events short enough for the most part (and always challenging, so you aren't bored) that it jsut has an ungrindy feel to it.

Yeah I used a longbow for a little while and that was a lot easier than sword/shield but I found using axe/mace to be a pretty sweet combo.

The mace off hand skills are great. The knockdown really worked well. I swapped between mace/mace and mace/shield in addition to a ranged weapon either rifle or longbow based on the kind of content I was doing. I was really trading a 4 second invulnerability for a vulnerability debuff. Worked well and kept me interested though I think I liked mace/mace better.

I didn't have a ton of issues with dying on my warrior with those combos.

Anyhoo, I have some more pics to share. I snapped some of underwater exploration, but they didn't turn out so well. Also, we were being chased by evil sharks, so I didn't want to linger. One thing no one talks about here is the underwater exploration. In my brief time down there, I have noticed what looks like large sunken outposts, and plenty to do and see...if you cna make it past the nasties that inhabit it...There are also 2 weapon sets specific for underwater, each with their own set of 5 skills to unlock and use. You have an underwater breather--basically a utility armor piece with it's own armor rating and boons. There is no O2 gauge or drowning (perhaps, unless you remove the breather? :hmm. There is only dying in the dark abyss, where no one will ever wander by to revive you.

well, these are pics of the developer "special event" at 11pm PST (1 hour before end of the event). we were told to meet up and wait in Norn area. Eventually, some event pops up, tells us to go kill woodland creatures to earn Norn reputation. so people venture out and start murdering enraged animals.

Then, back in the square, a door to the tower opens. The herd scrambles up the stairs, and the lucky few that make it past the veteran murderous rat (very tiny, but seriously mean animal), are greeted with a beast of legend that instills fear in the heart of all men:



look at the text box, and the boss bar at top center. LOL.

Anyways, this and these pics are not simply to document the event, but to show you guys what we mean when we say the particle effects in this game need to be tones down. It's simply impossible to see what is going on.

In this first pic, I'm actually standing on top of where I think the boss is, but I can't even see myself, I can't see the boss, I can see my name in teh blur..but that's it.

Wider view. look at the death and agony being unleashed on this dark, soulless creature, (I hear it has sharp, pointy fangs)
I've got a clone to the left and one off to the right of me, next to teammate bambi (blue name textl). So, no that isn't a bug. Just the Mesmer doing what mesmers do.



The norn are relaxed, confident dudes. check out that guy on the left. Stretching while all this death and mayhem plays out about 20 feet away.



Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

I loved playing a Ranger in the beta. One of the only games where I can be a pet class and also be melee.

It also has a nice difficulty curve. Not too easy like most mmos.

All in all from my short experience in the beta. Cant wait for live.

The GW anniversary event (GW 1) ends on May 8th. I wonder if the annoucncment will follow that?

June 26th sounds too soon to me after playing over the weekend, I wonder if they're still working on sylvari and asura content at the moment or if they left them out of the beta for other reasons.

I just keep re watching my game footage...

I was already having a hard time playing any game, now it is even worse.

Is it bad I hope it gets delayed till after June? I have a vacation planned over that weekend and the preceding and following week if it releases the last week of June. I wouldn't get my names unless someone saved me the one I really want.

I am 99% sure there's no way it will be ready for June. The beta was in great shape, but there's more than two months of work to do there.

Noooo, I already have June 25-29 scheduled off from work! (not specifically for GW2, just a happy coincidence)

I wouldn't mind it being pushed back a little bit. I will be returning form vacation two days before that, so I would have missed the early access--considering I would probably have to spend another day downloading the release client (being gone for 2 weeks).

I still haven't seen any definitive confirmation over what will and won't remain from the Beta Events? Only that Gems do not carry over. I wonder if we will have "beta accounts," the same characters and all that throughout beta, but everything will be deleted prior to release? Or is it an entirely new account each time?

Right now, I'm rather bummed that I didn't sell my last pile of gems before the end of the event, just in case we do retain some parts of the account.
