You realize Europe has actually been Anet biggest market?

The german GW community is really big.

For most Europe the stress test started at 20:00 (or 19:00 for UK and Portugal).

They're usually all Luxons, too, the twats.

did u even go on the stress test?
if u did, then you would of noticed there was literally less then half the EU servers up as they were USA servers, and most of the high volume servers were US.

So tell me... since when did EU stress test use USA servers and not EU servers?

oh....K.

I'm none of that, and I've got like 2 months of vacation/sick/personal days accrued, so I took a day off.

And I'm also not a soulless cube monkey (I'd much rather be a "NEET" than some useless mid-management cube prisoner. )

I actually supervise those soulless cube monkeys, and have an office. :X

I picked up my digital copy from Best Buy but, haven't received a way to install it yet from ArenaNet. Is there a beta going on now? I'm wondering if I have to wait for the next wave before I can install and play?

its not a traditional open beta.

i dont know how closed beta is working... i think there up, but the open betas are like poker games..

The first one was the last weekend in april. The second one was this one day nonsense they labeled stress test.

Im wondering when they intend to do a long term stress test lasting more then a weekend or a day.

You will need to register your account through ANet. If you have a license key, I believe that is all that is needed. Once you have a GW2 account name, you should be good to go. If you have GW1 account linked to an email address that you still use, it should make things easier.

You will get an invite to download the client and periodic info regarding upcoming beta events--generally weekend events, One/month is scheduled

Yeah I agree, I think the end of June is a little early to be releasing it. You never know though, NCSoft might be forcing them to hold a release fate since the game is pretty well hyped at this point. I hope that's not the case, it can really hurt an MMO if it's pushed out before it's ready.

Yeah, i've entered my license key already and used my old GW1 email address and created a username. I guess i'll be playing the waiting game then to get the client download and beta access.

I had to do the same thing. Before the next beta event log into your best buy account, somewhere in there is a game installer link. This has the game key to activate it.

Did you check BWE and that there was 24 EU servers and 24 US severs?

And the volume and number of servers must be a bug - I saw all US servers on low pop on the BWE (and there weren't 24 US servers listed) and all the EU servers on high or full. But obviously US servers were also full and high pop. I didn't check yesterday though.

Ah, and US servers is actually everything but EU.

yesterday there was seriously like 4-5 EU servers showing up, and like 10-15 i think US servers. (well when i logged on, which was like 12:00pm ish... )

they didnt open all the EU and US servers from what i noticed in that login session while i created a new character and played.

there is a link in one of the posts above--it's actually a direct link that downloads the client.

Do that. Shouldn't need to wait for an invite.

actually, you might want to follow the ANet main installer page--there are specific instructions on how to install the client--like, do not isntall into program files. (the Beta client does not have an installer, I think)

I just created a desktop folder: GW2. then downloaded the client.

Went into download folder, and chose to install the GW2 client into the desktop folder. Done.

People have had issues getting the client to run if they just let Windows try to do its thing after downloading it.

I was still on Sorrows Furnace server - I don't think people had to change worlds, so I'm not sure if that wasn't just some bug or something. Either that or I was lucky.

It also is really strange not having multiple of 3 servers due to WvW.

I'll have to dig gw2guru to see if anyone said anything about not being in the server they joined last BWE since from memory I don't recall it.

I cant handle this game. The choppiness is so bad its unreal. I watch the videos from Totalbiscuit and Yogscast etc and it seems just fine, but on my system it plays like garbage.

I have the 7970 card with a i7-950, so my computer isnt the issue. Prepaid for the game, very excited, and yet the game is so choppy that I cant handle playing it for more than 5 mins in the past 2 beta events

6870 here. I made it about 30 seconds into the first beta weekend and wanted to vomit from the choppiness. Hopefully it's an issue that can be fixed with drivers, because i'm not upgrading my rig for this.

why would they not open all of the servers? people were invited to play their previous characters--so if ANet randomly chose not to open some servers, many players would be SOL if they wanted to do that on servers that were closed.

I don't believe that was the case.

I have a AMD Turion X2 Ultra with a 4650M dGPU in my laptop. The game was pretty choppy but not unbearable. Mind that it was already on low settings. If I was to run into the city I'm pretty sure my laptop would've choked to death somehow but outside of the cities it was doing fine as long as too many people weren't around. And this is a 3 year old laptop cpu. I'm pretty sure anything thrown at it now would do so much better then my laptop.

But to address your issue. You would have to go on the beta forums and ask around. It seems that your system just doesn't like the game. Could always try installing new/older drivers and test from there.

5850 here, and completely fine. I'm on Catalyst 12.3, I think. Is 12.4 the latest drivers? I know I'm one update behind. The game ran perfectly fine for me both times--except during massive player mob events and my stupid decisions to run through the particle field.

Also, didn't think about this earlier--but is it possible that ANet did tone down the particle effects? I spent all of yesterday in Kessex peaks, so it could be that I was in areas that were less populated, but I didn't see nearly the same spam of crazy particles everywhere players mobbed around bosses.

thats wierd.. cuz when i created my character thats the only server options i was given.

the game im thinking is very heavy in cpu utilization more so then gpu.
I think you maybe cpu limited.

I was playing the game on i7 990x @ 4.4ghz with 3x580GTX in tri-sli and ran smooth.
The only issue i had was the kick off at 20min.
I didnt notice any sli benifits tho... the game ran the same with 1 2 or 3 cards in sli.

hence why im pointing to more cpu utilization, or really crappy multi gpu support.

Beta is DX9, btw....and it may be that way on initial release; but that's mere speculation on my part.

and considering that it's only DX9, the game looks really damn good, no?

As far as server availability goes, I really wouldn't know. I just loaded straight into my characters from the previous weekend and loaded my Mes, didn't look back.

I don't think I explained what i had noticed about leveling change. on the BWE, I had finished at level 19--about 3/4 progress to level 20. In the higher level areas of Kessex Hills (southwest, 21-24), I wasn't really progressing fast by the end of the final day.

On Monday, when I logged in at level 19, I ran a few events, again, in North Kessex Peak (16-19 level mobs). After one or two mobs, I had my new level, and didn't really notice it. Got distracted by several events on the way to do nothing in particular, and had managed to level to 23 before the end of the day (and about 1/2 progress to 24, actually).

It didn't feel like a grind before (still didn't notice that I was leveling), but I'd like them to keep a quicker rate (GW was never really about leveling, as you could pretty much max out in a day) if for no other reason that it makes the game easier to get into when first starting. It's still difficult, but I think making the first handful of levels progress quicker will allow new players to get a better handle of the game mechanics--hopefully dying less and realizing quicker that they simply can't tank/heal/dps--and really should play the game as it was designed to be played.

The mob respawn is still punishing, though, at any level :\

and yeah the game does look good in dx9

Kinda sad tho, most games lately are all dx9, makes me wonder whats the point in 400+ dollar gpu's when all the games are Dx9.

They plan on adding DX11 support I think. FWIW.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain that it will at least be DX10. I just think that when it is first released, it might remain DX9. Not sure what advantages/disadvantages there would be to that, though.
