I thought the HoM gear was low level but you could use the stones to give it high level stats?

yeah, I suppose that would work. If you like the skin, you can always keep it up to your level with transmutation.

I used those a few times in BW2, and they work well, actually. I had one of those Norn greatswords with the skin that everyone seems to love right now--forget what it's called, but it was ~level 5 stats. It looked sweet on my Mes, so I ended up transmuting that, as well as a few armor pieces.

So you have your two items, and not only do you select skin and stats among them, you can actually mix the stat choices from two items. Say you want the base damage from one item, but the mods/runs/insignia (however that works) from the other, you can mix them into the final piece of gear, picking whichever skin you want.

I wouldnt know, sadly I never got Eye of the north for GW1, so I don't get any of that nice goodies.

The best part about them, I think, is that you won't have to spend those few levels early on collecting your class weapons, which would save good money and time. I just hope the stats aren't far off from the type of builds that I want to run (like confusion/condition with mes).

As for AT guild: I would be fine with that. Though I am the type to run with one guild, so if I can ever get in touch with my GW1 peeps (no one is ever logged in when I log in :\) and some other random guild people. So, basically, I don't want something that would be exclusively AT.

Being a part of multiple guilds...I don't see the advantage right now. I wouldn't think the buffs you get to add to guilds could be applied to all your guilds, could they?

Either way, I'm rolling on Vasberg again, unless I ever get in touch with the few remaining GW1 folks and they have something set up.

Makes sense. The guild I am making has a few friends from games like WoW and such coming along. Open to AT members and no exclusivity either.

Has everyone decided what race to play? For awhile I had been eyeing Charr because they always seemed really awesome in GW1, but from seeing them in-game I'm no longer impressed. They look like cows. What happened to the regal, lion-like Charr from GW1...

I like all the other races, though Sylvari the least. So it's down to Norn, Asura and Human. I don't think there's a bad choice out of those three. I don't think there's a bad choice out of all five, for that matter.

Just curious what race everyone will be playing and whether you've already tried that race in the betas.

Norn strikes me as the most boring for story and for starting area, and Sylvari just confounding--maybe too busy? I don't know...I just for really sick of their area quite quickly. I think Asura and Charr are the most interesting races to play--best stories to start hands down, and fantastic starting areas. The Charr has the most difficult starting area, by far. But it is insanely fun.

Nothing wrong with humans--I think Divinity is the best-designed capital, and the most gorgeous. Asura and Humans have the best-balanced starting areas ime.

I loved the charr and human starting areas.

The norn was ok.

The syl was just idk, it just felt constrictive?

I never explored enough in the Asura starting area.

I think I will start off as human or Norn, as I have fully explored the char starting area already in BW3 basically.

Norn for me. I dont know anything about the races history but usually gravitate towards northern races that seem to live in snow within games.

I played Norn in the first beta weekend and the area was very boring and very difficult at times.

I'll be looking to a different race entirely. Maybe Asura or something. Haven't decided which class I want to play yet, though, so who knows.

Would be down for AT guild, though.

Norn for me. I dont know anything about the races history but usually gravitate towards northern races that seem to live in snow within games.

-Charr used to be the inhabitants of Most of the Eastren map. Humans were created from the south near the desert area. Humans invaded and took over most of the Charr homeland. Charr (4 legions : Flame, Iron, Ashe, Blood) led by the flame legion who used Nuclear weapon like magic, to retake most of its home. Humans struggle to hold ground and fall back to that last few areas they have which include divinity reach and around lion's arch.

-Humans, see charr.

-Asura, Intelligent and can create golems. Lots of golems malfunctioned/turned on them forcing them to move to the surface and learn to live up there with other races.

-Sylv, plant people. They are not born, they sprout from a great big tree that feeds them knowledge so they understand what they need to when they enter the word

-Norn, giants of the north. Sole purpose in life is to be a legend in peoples stories. Whether it means a great victory over their foes, or a last stand that was epic as they fell to their death. IT IS ALL THEY WANT. Dragons resurfaced and started attacking the continent forcing Humans and charr and asura and Syl to start working together to get rid of the dragons (Except flame legion chars, they refused to join in and are rebelling against the other char) Anyways, A dragon went up north and pushed the Norn south as they couldnt defeat it, and ended up meeting the other races, and want to work together to kill the dragons and make an epic story.

Everything in a very small nutshell more or less.

I am serious by the way. All a norn wants is to be part of a legendary story. Goofy giants.

Has AN made any more mention of being able to change our account names? I'm still sporting one of those old goofy @plaync ones.

Please note that it is not possible to change your account name or e-mail address at this time. However, this will become available prior to the official launch of Guild Wars 2.

From the email I got after I registered at Guild Wars website.

yeah, so no new updates (I got the same thing). I figured with less than a month to go they'd have said something by now.

I can say that Asura Engineer was endless amounts of synergistic fun--and I had very low expectations (regarding what I would enjoy) of both that class and race going in.

Playing an Asura in GW2 isn't really what I expected it would be like based on the GW1 NPC Asura, so I must say that the race as playable is quite an amazing addition.

After thinking about this--even though I won't do it--I think an Asura Mes would be a perfect blend of race and class play style, especially for PvP. Distinguishing a player form their clones really isn't that difficult, if you know what you are doing, but it can be confounding. Now imagine doing that as a human or giant Norn against a rat-sized player.

Yep... I'll be playing an Asura Mes.

Yep... I'll be playing an Asura Mes.

this is what i played in the last BWE. started off doing wand + pistol. eventually switched to using staff... but they're both pretty awesome. never even got around to playing around with a greatsword.

overall i love the unpredictability that's built into the class. but i'm still not sure if i liked the class more than thief. also kind of interested by engineer.

engineer is amazing. mes and engineer are my 2 favorites atm.

I enjoyed ele, but not as much as I thought I would. maybe it was being a plant person that I didn't enjoy, though. :hmm:

I did not get to play BWE 3. Previously I liked GS and Sword/Pistol best for small scale PvP. Large scale, well, that changes everything and it depends on who I'm playing with and what we're doing so I can't even really comment there.

Did they buff confusion damage at all in BWE 3? It was so absurdly terrible in BWEs 1 & 2. How about increasing the reliability of your shatters hitting their target?

word is that confusion got a bit of a buff, but that for the most part, very little was fixed from mes after the BW2 nerf.

still, it seems that opinions differ vastly. I didn't play mes at all in BW3, so it's hard for me to say.

all i know is that wand/pistol is behaving more or less like I want it to, and after massive community complaints, wand is going to get a bit of a buff for release.

Do Asura suffer any penalties for being so small? Reduced melee range...etc.?

Every race has the same hit box size, so they don't have any advantage either.

Sure, one could say smaller is harder to spot, but camera position depends on the size, so harder to spot in exchange for less visual field.
