Leaning towards the GMG sale on a pre-release... hm. But I don't like pvp much.
me neither. ...but there is enough content for you to not care about PvP. Though WvW is pretty damn fun

OK, I suspect this won't go lower than this $45 sale anytime soon... be nice to have it on Steam, but don't see it at all there, much less for $45, so maybe non-Steam on GMG.
Also there is not need for it to be on steam, assuming its like GW1 register your key and you can dl at any time.
Dumb question, but I prepurchased from Gamestop and have registered and downloaded the client already. That means I'll be able to get in on the three day headstart?
Anet won't put GW2 on steam because of the steam policy of grabbing a cut from cash shop sales.
Same as why World of Warcraft isn't on steam. If it can be digitally purchased now on a companies website, they will not use steam. No reason too.
Wouldn't know why one would want to even go through steam for an MMO, but to each his own.

GW1 is also on steam.
The reason is exactly because Steam has a policy for MMOs that don't pay a sub where they take a cut of all cash shop sales.
For GW2 that loss in revenue isn't worth whatever additional advertise they would get from being on steam.
But those MMOs were not on steam at release, or even within first year of their life. It is more of a "Hey we are going f2p, may as well put soem exposure on steam."
However, to my knowledge GW2 won't have much of an ingame buying thing. Much like GW1. After that first $60, you probably wont spend a cent until an expansion.

I already spent another $20.
I'm telling you, the reason for GW2 not being on steam is that steam will take a cut on in game item sales and they had to enable steam wallet to work.
GW1 was in steam before this change in policy.
GW1 also doesn't have a shop that you buy items with real money in it. Even though GW2 kinda does, it is all flair and you can earn with playing in the game.
GW1 is just you pay the original price and your done. GW2 will probably show up there someday but probably 1-2 years down the road.
GW1 also was into its third expansion before it even got on Steam.
GW1 does have a money shop. You buy your extra character slots, costumes, unlock skill packages for PvP and account unlock, expansion mission packs (merely for cosmetic weapon sets), changing your hair, gender, name...whatever.

And mercenary slots.
I spent over $200 in the shop between 10 character slots, the 8 mercs, the 4 storage panes, some costumes and the 1 million edition upgrade.
Still only about 1-1.5 years of a sub game.

Looks like ArenaNet has acknowledged that there was an issue affecting the difficulty in BWE3 and that BWE2's difficulty is what they'll be aiming for at launch. This is incredible news, I was crushed by how easy BWE3 was and genuinely questioned whether I could actually play a game that was this easy all the way to level 80.
Super psyched now about the release!
During the stress test following the BWE3, the difficulty had already reverted to "people dead everywhere" level.
But there aren't actually any penalties for dying, right? So at it's hardest, it's just a matter of zerging stuff down? Or is there a mechanic to prevent that?
That doesn't sound like a very big penalty, unless repair costs are really high. I guess my question is this: could a group of players trying to kill a boss literally spend 100 attempts and die 100 times while fighting that same boss in a night without really suffering any real consequences, other than a small amount of gold spent?
I'd like to see a game where you are aren't rewarded for throwing your head into a wall until the wall finally topples over.
