I haven't had time but to play the beta just the last 3 stress test's, I wanted to try the Thief but from what I read on saw on youtube it looked like it may me the harder class to play. The Guardian seems to be able to take a lot of damage and still live. so I am kinda stuck between the two.
Anyone here have much time on a Thief that can tell me if they are very hard to play?

So, I tried the stress test for the first time. Only just scratched the surface, but really enjoying the game so far.

Aside from getting stuck inside some barrels after shadow stepping to an enemy and a few long loading times and disconnects (to be expected during a stress test), I didn't have any major issues.

One minor thing: I bought the best gathering tools I could afford, but I couldn't equip or use them. A search turned up a list of tools and their level restrictions online, but there was no way to tell in-game by looking at the items in the merchant window and item tooltips that I couldn't use them. Most other gear has obvious red text with level and profession restrictions clearly listed.

Did I somehow miss the restriction warnings on the tools? Is there any other way to tell whether or not I can use certain unmarked items like this before buying them? Are there other unmarked but level restricted items I should beware of?

To those that are commenting on the servers, are your comments based on your experience during the beta or something else?

yeah, I had that problem too. I think it does tell you the level of the tools in the merch window, but it isn't as conspicuous as with other gear--it isn't red, or the icon isn't greyed-out...whatever it is.

Ah well, I guess I'll have to take a closer look next time.

We play from europe on US servers due to soem US friends. Still debating where to go in retail tho.

Yesterday there was long changes/disconnects when you changed map. First time we experienced that after 3 BEWs and alot of stresstests. So I guess it was on purpose.

One stresstest we had rubberbanding, but that was due to internet issues with the american hosting facility.

First BWE there was some login problems when it started, but they was solved after 30mins or so.

Else servers been fantastic.

Just saw a note on the forum of a group I play with about seelecting a server, wtf is this crap? Why are we going away from a single dynamic server.

Never was one. You expect millions to play on 1 server? Even EvE couldnt scale beyond a million.

I've heard a lot of rumors about "guesting" I'm not sure how it works but it sounds like everything outside of WvW is very fluid and you could theoretically join in for PvE and dungeons with a friend on another home server. I haven't seen this in the Betas and don't know how to do it as of now.

I've heard this mentioned elsewhere quite often the last couple days as people start to realize they're going to have to make a relatively permanent choice.

On a seperate note what dedicated forums do you guys read on GW2, looking to make some recruitment posts in those that have a section. Just put one up on GW2Guru, which incidentally has had a great UI overhaul and i now don't hate to look at. (Reading on the other hand urgh)

How would you do WvWvW with only 1 server?

WvW has some limits that need to be addressed. While it is fun don't get me wrong. I really needs a way to show the top 100 of certain things. I don't like knowing that you don't have lists of best players, most kills, top 100 in each class, etc across all servers.

Maybe they will eventually. But right now I feel like i'm not competing against anyone other than myself. lol

Remember DAOC had all that awesome stuff you could view online for each server, something like that would be awesome to compare.

I also don't see why they could not put player names you kill in chat. Its not like its a technical hurdle, or anything logical why they could not. I think it would be awesome to see you kill a certain player is better ranked than you in wvw. Give a sense of acknowledgment for ones self.

I´m sure the PvP stats will come. Its also very easy stuff to do.

Plus we will also have statistics on server ladders with who gonna meet who next after the 2 weeks and so forth.

of course...I could be wrong. memory based on BW3 some weeks ago.

It could be that the only clue as to the level of crafting materials in the merch window, by the time of BW3, was simply based on price point, and level was only shown after you purchased them. All I know is that I couldn't equip this set and then in inventory, saw the level and felt like an idiot.

I assume guru is the way to go. It was the best site for GW1.

as for guesting--well, I guess that explains the efficacy of having people from multiple servers in the same guild. I couldn't figure out how that was supposed to work

I wonder if you get the server-wide bonuses if you guest onto a non-home server (increased XP through server's PvP exploits and such? I would assume not)

I'm also still not sure what the use is of being a member of multiple guilds. That softens the whole tribe aspect of an MMO, imo.

to me the idea of being a member of multiple guilds reminds me more of corporations and alliances in EVE... but i really don't see the point of it in GW2

GW1 had alliances. Essentially, multiple guilds, with one head guild, as part of one alliance. There was a separate alliance chat, to chat across the alliance, and then your guild chat. Alliance grouping and events were essentially the same as guild events.

I feel like sticking to that alliance structure makes more sense :\

Splitting into multiple servers has always been the most difficult to overcome aspect of playing an mmo, but with technology now where so many of them have phasing/zoning etc... I don't see why they are going with different hardcoded servers here.

I don't see why they just don't have Races vs Races GW2. I see no reason they can't have each fight in WvW. It was doable in daoc 10 years ago, it could be now.

5 different races fighting each other seems more intresting than just fighting other servers of the same races as you..just saying.

The trend of Realm (Races) vs. Realm has subsided because of balance - that's why you saw classes go cross-realm in WoW. It's easier to balance populations than it is classes. It took Mythic years to really balance out the classes in DAoC only to go and screw the game up with ToA.

splitting up races doesn't fit with the lore of GW, so that would never work.

I do agree with lupi though. Granted, I don't know much about servers and demand and what is involved, but GW1 did quite well with single servers and multiple zones (very, very different population, demand, and type of game of course). But GW2 already has multiple zones/overflow/servers--for each server, so other than WvW, I don't really see the need.

Having servers preserves that feeling of community.
