^ (but keep it on the DL, lest you hurt our warrior's feelings. )
as for picking traits--don't sweat it too much. You can readjust whenever (maybe you can only do it later, I'm not positive right now; but my understanding is that a trainer can refund all your traits for a fee).
I've noticed with Mes that there is a vast difference between how I want to play the class (illusions), vs easily leveling through mobs in the early parts of the game.
To get illusions working well (so they aren't one-hit as soon as they spawn ), it takes master level traits, I believe (available at level 40). I only discovered the fun of dual-wield sword mesmer last night and--gasp!--some semblance of damage output in this class! I might be respeccing tonight if I can, to put into increased sword damage, and perhaps mantras? to play a different style as I level. To that end, I still can't abandon chaos storm on staff, nor off-hand pistol, as I just like them too much.
Confusion also got a nice bump (after constant nerfing during betas), but for the most part, that is limited to one decent skill (3rd wand slot). And after all of that, I still see very little use in the F skills for mesmers--shatter everything at once. all of these 4 options, when exploding your max of 3 illusions, apply little to no damage to anything, and the conditions are so short I'm not sure why anyone would bother. I think they get a decent buff when you spend at least 10 trait points....but it seems like too much into a play style that just isn't viable at the moment. If you could explode them one at a time...maybe. If they actually produced some small amount of damage (pretty much at 0 for all your clones, and phantasms really are too squishy still), this would make more sense. :\
