you mean you hadn't been dual-weilding axes or sword? D:

I just wish mes could dual-wield pistol (or at least mainhand) or hell--scepter! how cool would that be? (might give some scepter some viable skills...)

yeah... do you feel like our damage has been nerfed since the bwe/stress tests? i feel like i'm doing way less damage compared to like... rangers.

also what's the deal with the signet of inspiration? does it only give you boons in combat now or what? seems like i don't get a boon every 10s anymore or something.

i've been doing sword/pistol and staff mostly. sword/pistol is nice cuz you can drop phantasmal duelist then hit them with blurred frenzy and unload a decent amount of damage all at once. i feel like having to get in close with sword almost kills any sort of advantage you get from it though.

Good ol' sword and board . I love the fact that you can use a pistol/gun esp. for pulling. GW2 wow'd me thus far in my MMO experiences.

is the basic adventuring out in the world experience pretty much just like 1?

yeah, I think they only use rifle, right? But rifle warrior is awesome.

Hearing the exploits of our warriors in chat, I think I might have to roll out 'ol Zinfamous Meathead sooner than anticipated.

Yea getting stuck in overflow sucks. I'm in overflow 90% of the time. Lots of mining for ore, cutting down trees, and gathering helps get xp.

I need to find you guys while I'm playing because I'm getting my ass kicked when taking on the big boss by myself. Still getting used to switching elements only the fly so I can put up defensive and healing spells but I'm getting the hang of it. No one heals while banding together it seems when taking on the big enemy so it's making me learn quickly.

I feel retarded but how do I set-up another set of weapons to be able to switch to? I still haven't been able to figure it out. I see my main set then my underwater set but nothing else. I'm a lvl 11 Ele.

yeah, as said, ele can only switch weapon sets outside of battle. But the mechanic of attunement still grants you access to a much larger set of skills than anyone, rivaled only by Engineer (which is limited to only 2 weapons!).

Are you "representing" in the guild, yet? I don't think I've noticed you in chat, or requests at least. I like grouping up with people. well.....when such is possible.

yes, damage was nerfed throughout each beta weekend, from a pretty crazy build that was in BW1. They did restore much of the damage from confusion, but all clones are now at 0 damage. seriously....zero damage--what's the point? they die in one hit, vanish as soon as you cast them (because someone else killed your target...). rather annoying.

i am liking sword more and more, and I hate scoffed at it previously. I try to get comfortable with sword/pistol but like you said, there's a lack of balance where you can't easily go from mele to ranged very effectively, and spammy (it needs a spammy mele and spammy ranged ability, I think :\)...or switch between that and sceptor/sword for ranged spam? :hmm: (still hard to give up staff). The iStep skill seems backward, to me, or at least, you should have a longer timer to switch with your illusion (or does it seem so short simply because the clone does so fast?)

yes, signet of inspiration now only works in battle. Not sure how exactly I feel about that--for one, I was really sick of hearing "I'm as fast as centaur!" every 30 seconds, though it was great to actually get that speed boost wherever you were--but it kind of makes sense that the function is limited to battle. HOWEVER, I've noticed that it seems to be broken--when you activate it to transfer your boon to allies, your boon seems to disappear? originally, it was a copy, now you seem to lose it--really? CD also seems much longer. I think it's now 50 seconds? I feel like it should be in the 20-30 second range, considering the boons only last, what...3 or 5 seconds?

I dropped Signet of Inspiration because of this, now if i'm traveling a ways i just use focus skill 4 for speed buffs/get away and if things go really wrong i also have decoy that i can pop

yeah... the switch place with your clone thing is kinda iffy. i've noticed it doesn't do anything if you're close to a wall.

but yeah... i've gotten in the habit of hitting shatter ASAP. which i'm going pretty much the same way as you... dumped my first 10 points into illusions... now filling out domination.

another weird thing... i don't think i've found one scepter that wasn't just a plain white item. seems i only find staves and offhands... but i have a bunch of greens in my bank that i was holding onto to sell... but i think i might as well just mystic forge them considering there's still no eta on trading post.

and yeah... i always have access to at least one stealth skill (torch or decoy)... it makes getting away from a fight soooooooooo much easier.

also someone on stormbluff should throw me a guild invite. thujone.3208

i'm pretty sure you are already invited--I'll check again. at least, I added you to friend's list right at launch time, before there was a guild, and it might have been an oversight.

I've actually found a ton of green scepters, some master-crafted stuff, too. If I still have one that I'm not using (most get salvaged), I'll mail it to you.

You can actually get some decent ones in Kessex--the human 2nd zone--from the heart/karma vendors. The guy in the far southwest, which is the most difficult area of the zone (lvl 24 zombie critters) sells green and blue scepters and staves.

Some do damage, like the one generated with the pistol offhand. Use the F1-F4 keys to have them kamikaze and when they explode they'll do aoe damage. *I think* or daze, etc...The clones also distract a bit but yeah they die easily.

yes, phantasms do damage (iDuelist is a phantasm, and is my preferred one. IN BW2, it was bugged, and was the highest DPS in the game ), and clones are simply copies that are spawned with scepter spamming or a few other utility skills. They are distinguished from one another in the skill description.

the clones do 0 damage--they simply sit there and look like you, assuming you sit there, too. the use is actually a little bit better, as they are actually drawing aggro, randomly, from NPCs. They weren't doing this very well in earlier builds of the game.

and the shatter skills--yes, my gripe with them is that the damage they do is so miniscule, and the conditions applied so limited in time, that they entire functionality seems to be not very useful. especially when all are shattered at once, on one targeted enemy--and they still do practically no damage. I will have ot see at higher levels, as my main gripe at the moment is that it is not a very good leveling build. there is also the signet (decent passive one that grants meager vitality to your illusions) that when activated, refreshes yoru shatter skills. I don't see this as very useful, as all of them shatter at once, and you need some time to get them up again, so you're generally just refreshing one of 4 shatter skills?

could be my playstyle, as I just don't see the real use for shattering. maybe I should be more spammy with clones and instant shatter? I was doing this in BW1--when the dual clone skill was easier to obtain (I have it again), and there was more damage. for this, I really like scepter + clones utility, + iDuelist, as you constantly had a stream of exploding illusions....but they were actually doing some damage, then. :\

After swearing off Thief in the beta events as the weakest of all classes... guess what I rolled when the game went live? A Thief! I don't really know why I went back to them other than that I knew I was rolling a Human and I always stick to melee-focused classes at first. Plus I already knew I wanted to eventually roll a Norn Guardian and a Charr Warrior... so Thief was the only option left!

So far my biggest pet peeve is how obnoxiously loud those Elementalist skills are... somebody muzzle those spammers.

Staff Clones might not do dmg but they do cast conditions, if i have 3 up at all times it adds up quickly with a condition heavy build

This game is awesome. Having a really fun time with it. I have a level 25 human guardian and he is so fun to play. I created an engineer today to because I wanted to create a flame throwing powerhouse but after testing it out in the mists it just didn't seem that fun to play. I really just couldn't get into the engineer which is unfortunate because I want to really like it.

I was watching a stream of some of the people that pre-bought the game and got early access and saw one of the guys in the chat make this comment:

An mmorph newbie can get level 80 in 15 hours of playtime,
and theres no endgame. welcome to gw2!
^ thats made me hessitant again....

If the itemisation means, best gear is too easy to get, and dungeon gear is basically the same as whats easy to craft.... then their right, there is no endgame. Spending 1-2days to get max level, seems like too short a time, esp for a game without a endgame in it.

it has worse endgame than D3
endgame = get lvl 80

Stay strong my friend. I've bit into so many horrible horrible games because of all the hype I read..the only one I managed to stay away from was Star Trek MMO just because I *knew* it would be bad... WAR/Aion/AoC/now Star Wars..chill out and see what people say about the end game..

A) Level 80 in 15 hours? I am 18 in 20+ hours AND I have been playing MMOs for over a decade. The only way you can "powerlevel" that fast is if you have plenty of people feed you mats for crafting, and you level that way. How someone could say this is funny, I know some people who literally have pumped in 40-50+ hours and barely hit lv 40. Unlike other MMOs though. Leveling from 79-80 doesnt take longer than 11-12. After level 10, each level takes the same amount of time to level.

B) Endgame is not raids. It is not needing 25+ people. Endgame is PvP, WvWvW, and 5 man dungeons that can get really hard. However, stats on gear has never been the focal point of Guild Wars end game. In GW1, at lv 14 you could craft the best stated gear in the game. However, the "endgame" was trying to collect mats and craft some of the best rarest armor in the game because it looked cool. On top of collecting items, dyes and finishing the map.

C) Combat is a blast, and with a massive seperate storylines per race, I could easily see myself finish 5 lv 80s.
