Stay strong my friend. I've bit into so many horrible horrible games because of all the hype I read..the only one I managed to stay away from was Star Trek MMO just because I *knew* it would be bad... WAR/Aion/AoC/now Star Wars..chill out and see what people say about the end game..

Depends what endgame you like. If you need a carrot on a stick which is stats on gear. This isnt the MMO for you. Anet has always kept the game balanced via same stats on end gear. So it comes down to PvP skill/skill combos to beat others. If its almost anything else, it is great.

What's this overflow stuff?

Basically each zone is its own instance, so each zone performance isnt hampered with poplation size in the world.

Each zone instance has a limited population per server.

So if your zone is full, it puts you into an overflow server (Where people from other servers will also be mingling) which allows you to do exactly the same thing (quest, kill, craft w/e) in the regular server can.

As you are in overflow you are in queue to join the actual server. Once you are next in line it will pop up a box asking if you want to be teleported to your server. Say yes and you will instantly teleport to your server in the same exact spot you are in overflow. Say no, and you stay in overflow and re-enter the queue.

Since you just joined I can't burn you as bad as I'd like..however GW1 =/ GW2. Also, you haven't completed RIFT or SWTOR..so....

Still leary.

You guys just need to stop thinking that the only form of progression is numeric based.
Numeric progression exist - up to level 80 exotic weapons, which have max stats.

But, there are also is the enemy AI progression and each individual player progression.

Yes, I know after a decade of MMORPGs where enemies fight the same way at level 1 as they fight max level (other than raids and some dungeons), AI improving with level is a bit hard to believe, but it does happen.

Mobs start dodging, they buff each other, they CC you, they use combo fields, etc.

Additionally, GW2 has no macros or a perfect rotation, so you as a player need to keep making decisions all the time.

These are forms of progression as well.

Getting materials for crafting or being able to get the prestige item skins will be hard and grindy.

I don't understand how people will rush to buy crap that you can see and smell miles away like Diablo 3 and SWTOR and they can't see a great game even if pushed right in their against their noses.

What does rift or swtor have anything to do with it? And by just joined I will assume the forums?

A) Just because I personally didnt level to the end doesnt mean I didnt experience the endgame on a friends account. Or keep track on what was added/not added to those games.

B) It is said on a few "wowhead" like sites for GW2, how endgame is going to handle. Maybe some bigger things down the road. But right now, not true. It won't be like gear that is so hard to get as Herioc Lich King and what not. But once you obtain the gear, you can find equal gear just different looks.

C) Not saying this game is for everyone, even WoW wasn't for everyone. But it is a totally new idea to play against. You should check out the AT GW2 guild thread Zin and I put together. (sticky) about some of the facts and things about GW2.

I still love enemy AI. Get them in AoE and they GTFO of it. Yea I started running into mobs that started using healing and buffing turrets... Darn monsters.

And the best weapon combos depends on your skills, trait build up, what role you want to be more known for, and the weapons you switch between.

Gear has helped my Thief a lot, level 29 now and have 2 lvl 26 green pistols and a lvl 26 green sword and dagger for my other weapon set.

I have managed to get quite a few green armor pieces for cheap to.

As you level it is a huge help. Or can be. At max level though it evens out.

^ this gonna give it a month or two, and see how people's feedback after playing the game for that period of time is like.

I think Im a oddball, but I like the concept of gear thats out of normal players reach,
that requires really hard raiding to get to.

I dont want to do raiding for "looking pretty" armor peices.
Also pvp gives everyone "basic" gear during a match right? so everyone is equally geared.

Great... no reason to pvp for gear, no reason to raid for gear.... then what?
What happends when people get level80?

I am having fun so far with the same game, but i have those same questions, what to do at 80? I heard the dungeons are pretty good. But we will see, i am excited for BL2 next month, so this will give me time to get to 80 before then and play around and there is not montly fee so i will play when i want after that, hopefully there is content to do though i like stuff being out of reach or hard to get.

why do you want to be max level within a month? I dont get this with MMOs lately.

They all seem to be very easy to get to max level and then theres no content for those players...it doesn't make sense.

Why wouldn't you want to be? The journey is fun, but its about what there is to do once you get there. My friend is 70 already, i am sure i will be 80 next week.

I never could understand people that play games like wow and 6 months later they are still lvl 35.

He will find out that being level 80 doesnt make things that much easier and he will be doing orr, farming titles, farming prestigious items, rolling alts, doing dungeons.

Raids in games like WoW are interesting because they introduce new mechanics to a stale combat that has been the same from 1 to 85.

In GW2 the combat isn;t stale so you don-t need traditional raids.

PvP: To equate the gear and make it skill based. Not who can obtain the most resilience. GW1 pvp was always vast superior to most other MMOs pvp. Especially since Anet would patch once every 2 weeks to fix whatever ability found its way to be overpowered.

If you ever play a game for gear, just to use to get more gear. You will probably not enjoy this game. However I cant see you really "enjoying" almost any game anyways if you are wanted to struggle for a long time to obtain 1 piece of gear you could have lived without.

At 80?

-There is 5 man dungeons that "evolve" over time, and can drop nice goodies.
-Minipet collecting
-Dye collecting
-Item collecting for looks
-PvP
-WvWvW
-Exploring all the maps
-Trying other characters as each ones combat has some uniqueness to it.

If things don't happen at max level people will quit, see D3.

The scaling is fine, but i can't get my mind around why anyone would not want to be max level, or take there time blah blah whatever, as long as you are doing anything, exploring, crafting, killing you will get exp and lvl you would have to go out of your way not to be max level in this game fairly soon.

Exactly. Phasing out the needs of Raids. Means more people can play without a huge time committment or going insane by the sheer difficulty of a fight (Looking at you Sunwell).

I havent had this much fun just killing things in a game since early wow (vanilla leveling to 60)

And honestly since killing things gives little xp the only reason to kill things is for fun or to get loot. Every enemy I cross I have to kill, or get killed because it was much stronger than I anticipated.

There will be plenty at 80. Just not "raids" in the traditional sense in which people think are the only endgame.

Secondly. That word "quit" a game that doesnt have a subscription (including D3) is the wrong word to use. If so I have quit ALL my NES games, all my SNES games, all my PLAYSTATION, games, all my GAMECUBE games. (and so on).

Actually, Im only 19 in 20 hours. I am enjoying the sceneic root. However your right. You have to try to not level quickly enough because everything you do gives xp.

People left D3 because the game sucks.

in every mmo i've played where i've hit max level, i quit shortly after because there is nothing to do or i got bored doing the same crap over and over again.

you're saying gw2 is different? and i mean truly different, not just because the back of the box says so.

Why would you play any MMO if you only enjoy leveling? Leveling is slowly being phased out I believe.

I'm slow at leveling since I don't get to play much any more. I'm barely level 12 since Saturday.
