He makes a great marionette for Bush and his stooges.

As always, Jon Stewert gets it right: Finally a leader with courage who supports the war but blames the troops.

Democrats try to turn Giuliani's weapons remark against Bush

By Glenn Blain, The (Westchester, N.Y.) Journal News

Rudy Giuliani's penchant for speaking his mind generated some trouble for the Bush-Cheney campaign yesterday when the former New York City mayor suggested that U.S. troops, not the president, were responsible for the missing explosives in Iraq.
As much as I would like for it to stick to Bush, I think he's saying what a lot of people are secretly thinking...

im confused about giuliani. all he did was have the (un?)luck to be mayor of NY during 911. he made a speech or two, and now hes a national hero. makes zero sense to me. im sure hes a good guy and all, but why is he suddenly the most popular man in america?

Rudy is a consummate political animal. He knows when to step into the limelight and when to wait in the wings. At least that is how it seems. By doing so, he was able to take advantage of 9/11. Now Rudy is playing some kind of game, and I am not sure what it is. Risky business I think.

The best thing that ever happened to Rudi was the 9/11 attack. He didn't do anything extraordinary. He was just there but he has made a ton of cash and is now a recognized national political figure who could one day run for senator or even president. As Al Sharpton said, Bozo the clown could have united New York city after the attack.

Giuliani cleaned up New York. You can actually walk around New York without getting robbed today. This is because of Giuliani directly.

You got me. I am waiting till after the election to post what I will call odd points on the campaign season. He's one of them. I know one thing no one benefitted more from 9/11 than this guy. He was limping to the finish line. Scandal, an adulterous affair, all kinds of mess in NY, then 9/11 happens and he becomes America's Mayor, I am like wtf.

Bingo! All of the above posts are way off the mark. Giuliani did an amazing job as mayor of NYC long before 9/11. He completely turned the city around and made it a significantly cleaner and more hospitable place. He was a great political figure in New York City before 9/11, and received vast amounts of praise and attention from the media and the people before the attacks. It's a shame that the Bush admin is now using him as their puppet.

I'd agree with that. I have meaningful reservations about some of his behavior (in particular, he's shown a disappointing willingness to act all too dictatorial when he considers something "sacreligious"), but I can't deny the results. He really transformed the city, and made it the safest large city in the US. He's shown real brilliance as a leader, and that's something not many politicians can say.

I'm not from New York nor have I lived their before during or after Rudy's tenure so I'll let his constituents speak. Anyone here besides Lucky or Insomnium actually knows WTF goes on in NYC. I know it's a big city and all, but I see the same crap from people talking about California like they know two sh1ts about our state.

He's being groomed to be appointed Vice President should Bush be re-elected.

Cheney will step down and Giuliani will be named the VP so he could run in 2008.

you guys say that like it's a good thing. he totally turned Manhattan into Disneyland.

I wasn't too into local politics back then, but I'm pretty sure I remember most of NYC disliking him as mayor pre-9/11.

There is no way a pro-abortion, pro-gay rights mayor from New York who just said the soldiers were responsible for not searching hard enough for the missing exposives is going to be the Republican nominee in 2008. He would never get out of the primaries even as a sitting VP (I doubt this because Kerry will win in 4 days). I will lay HEAVY money on the Rudy not surviving the primaries.

This man was an unpopular mayor in NYC on 9-10-2001. His greatest achievement came out of one of America's greatest intelligence failures.

Rudy was lucky to serve during the economic boom period. During his administration he continually picked these odds fights with jay walkers, sidewalk food carts, taxi drivers etc. In fact crime started to fall before he even took office, under Dinkens and it continued to fall just like it fell throughout the country. When too much credit was being given to the police chief, he fired him. The police were out of control during his early years. They would scream and curse for the slightest reason and treated people like NYC was a giant jail and we were the inmates. It got better only after the Louimi beating by police and the shooting of Abner Diallo by undercover detectives for no reason, who had a stall near my apartment and I casually knew. In the village you could drink in public and even smoke a joint without a problem. Guiliani started up street sweeps that started to bust people but stopped after even the police were complaining that this was a waste of effort. 9/11 saved him. Without 9/11 he would have left office and pretty much disliked at best. His last year was pathetic with his estranged wife living in the Mayors house, and getting alot of sympathy over Rudy's adultery. The low point was Rudy's divorce lawyer calling his wife a lousy mother on Mother's day! Bush and Guliani are a pair, proof bad people can have good luck on other people's misfortune.
