I'm guessing that lots of 12 year olds voted 8 times each for Halo...

This pretty much sums up how accurate this list is:

whether you like halo series or not, it is the sole reason that FPS have become so large and popular on consoles, let alone the online portion of it.

it is like the street fighter 2 of the FPS genre in a sense.

and yes before you all cry goldeneye, the halo series went above and beyond that bringing multi-player on consoles to span accross more than 1 display set, and even online.

greatest series ever? obviously in some people's eyes ... but all these lists are anyways are people's opinions anyways.

Oh, I won't argue with that at all, the game was absolutely revolutionary to the FPS genre. From the first Halo we got:

-Regenerating health
-Melee became a vital part of fighting
-The first serious multi-console multiplayer game
-Vehicular combat sucessfully integrated with FPS gameplay
-1 button grenade throws

That said, I don't think it's even in the top 5, maybe top 10 series ever made, much less the greatest series ever. Most influential for a particular genre? Maybe (although that might go to the first game to have a moving Y axis).

As great as Goldeneye was (although it wasn't a series) I think that if it makes the top 50 at all it should be near the end of the list.

Mario should be #1, probably Zelda #2.

Good point, I didn't even think of that. Street Fighter for sure should be on there (even though I greatly prefer Tekken), probably all 3. Mortal Kombat should probably make the list as well.

Heck, Tetris didn't make the list either.

They have a loose definition of "series". There are a lot of single games on there and for some reason "Lego Batman" is listed as a single game rather than as the larger "LEGO" series. Then you have "Tom Clancy's" listed which is actually a bunch of games... Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, End War, HAWX....

i run into more "12 year olds" playing BC2 and MW then i do in Halo, they are everywhere

and FWIW Halo is IMO the best FPS series in the modern era. however you cant really compare it to Mario or Zelda the games are completely different

Even though this is the Console forum I saw some PC games in that list, so I'd put Team Fortress (especially 2) as so infinitely better than any of those Halo games there wouldn't even be a need for a list. Mature people almost exclusively playing.
