It's not supposed to be served "WARM" it's supposed to be served at "Cask temperature."
And since the cask is most likely in the cellar, it's going to be colder than room temperature, just not icey cold. This misconception is also made about red wine.

I made birch beer this way.
It's primed with yeast and makes carbon dioxide, but it's pressurized with the nitrous which gives smaller bubbles and the creamier head.

FYI, guinness is 'carbonated' with nitrogen, not co2. When its on tap, the bar has to have a seperate nitrogen system, which is why you don't see it on tap as often as you might think.

As far as serving temperature, the colder the liquid, the more nitrogen will be dissolved into the beer, making it more like tap Guinness. If you let it warm (this applies to any beer, especially kegs), and then chill right before serving then you will higher PSI in the head space of the beer, causing a flatter beer in the glass, especially as it warms. Kegs that aren't kept cool will pour hotter than those kept refridgerated because it takes a few days for the gas to dissolve back into the liquid. You can accelerate reabsorbtion of the gas by chilling and then shaking the container.

Yes it is a taste to get used to. I drank guinness for a few years prior to being stationed in europe for 5 years, which during that time had the chance to visit the guinness brewery in Ireland. Now, even guinness off the tap in the US seems like crap, but better than nothing!

Guinness Draught in cans is the same as draught in the bottles. The can has a ping pong ball nitrogen device as well. These are dry stouts. The extra stout in the short bottles is a different type of stout. More roasted flavor, hop bitterness, body, and alcohol. Either will also taste differently in different countrys. The extra stout in Jamaica is brewed in Jamaica by the same brewers of Red Stripe. Guinness in Ireland will have a lower alcohol content. The water used by the brewery is also a factor of taste.
