I don't want to spend more than 200. I generally play on my yamaha acoustic, but i'd like to be able to keep that sound and plug in when I play with people.

Thanks

Oh, and if anyone has an opinion on the washburn ea8 or ea9 guitars, let me know!

You want an acoustic with a pickup, or an 'electric acoustic'?

With such a low budget, I'd suggest buying a pickup for the guitar you have, assuming you like it.

I've been out of the loop on equipment for a few years, but I have a Dean Markley pickup that cost me well under a hundred canadian dollars about five or six years ago, and which sounds great (much better than you're likely to get in a whole guitar with pickup for $200 anyway).

I imagine there's better stuff out there now, and possibly cheaper, too.

Pick up a good used one from a pawnshop. Your not going to find anything decent new in that price range.

I have a $300 Ovation acoustic/electric that I absolutely love. I've owned 3-4 other high end acoustics in the past, but I like this one a lot better for some reason. Worth looking in to.

Something like this...

or this...

Keep in mind that Ovations have a round back. Might want to play one before you buy.

Stay away from the ovations. The have a round back and it's impossible to play it while you're sitting down. the damn thing keeps sliding off your lap.

I didn't really have that problem with mine, but it was the deep bowl, so maybe that helped.

get a Rogue. They seem like cheap Walmart/Target kind of guitars, but they're great guitars and very, very affordable!

this is the one I have, and I love it!

this man speaks truth. rogue guitars blow all other low end guitars in its price range out of the water (i.e. sub $200 guitars)

I've never had a problem with my ovation sliding off my lap. I pretty much never play my acoustic standing up. I guess it does depend on the back of the guitar and how it's being played. It's worth a play at your local Guitar Center.

would you guys recommend a rogue over a similarly (or slightly higher) priced washburn?

if the prices are the same, I would have to play them both to make a decision.

Not having that option, and having played both Rogues and Washburns, I'd go for the Washburn.

Look on ebay for Seagull guitars. Apparently they're amazing for the price. I played a few in the music store a couple of years ago and remember being impressed.

Takamine, Ovation, and Washburn all seem like good ways to go for an affordable accoustic, but not so fast my friend. Take it from me...the tone is great for the price but they are not very well built and will likely require expensive repairs within the first couple of years. I'm speaking from experience.
